  • A computer model of the anisotropic ventricular myocardium : the effect of fibrous structure on propagated activation

    We presented the methodology for simulating propagated activation in a model of the anisotropic myocardial tissue that is thoretically tracttable and computationally feasible. Our propagation model ... simulates the electrotonic interactions of cardiac cells by solving a nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation derived from bidomain theory, but it behaves as a callular automaton when the transmembrane potential exceeds the treshold value. We successfully validated our propagation algorithm by comparing the simulated activation sequences of isochronal maps with the measured sequences of maps. We demonstrated the importance of anisotropy in determining the ectopic ventricular activation sequence.
