  • Machinability and its criteria in drilling with indexable insert - tipped drill

    The use of the insert-tipped drills from cemented carbides has contributed to a significant improvement in the field of drilling since it enabled a cutting efficiency to that achieved with turning ... and milling tools. Therefore it is necessary to define the machining criteria also for these tools and enter the data into the technological database. For different machining materials a region of cutting parameters giving favorable chip shape was defined. In this region the mode of edge wear was examined and the criterion of wear established. On the basis of statistical analysis of the wear results and measurement of cutting forces, the equation of tool life and specific cutting forces can be defined. These data serve as a supplement to the machining data for drilling with insert-tipped drills.
