  • Discussion of different condition monitoring techniques to detect gear tooth flank failures
    Vižintin, Jože
Vibration and noise signals of any machine, engine, or structure contain a great deal of dynamic information related to the various exciting forces applied to them and the condition of the system. ... Therefore, changes in these response signals could be used to identify undesirable external loads or the onset of the system faults before drastic failure occurs. From the literature it has been found that noise is normally difficult to interpret unless measured in a good acoustic environment. Vibration analysis is the most common means of gear monitoring and diagnostics. Gear vibration is really affected by faults but the signal is usually picked up at the case, were it is also affected by the structural response. On the other hand, ferrography was developed as a predictive technique, initially used to magnetically precipitate ferrous wear particles from lubricating oils.
