  • Identitetna kriza in samomor = Identity crisis and suicide
    Leskošek, Franc, 1949-
Identity in a broader sense means a more authentic experiencing of oneself which contributes to a more favourable estimation of ones capability and ability coping with life challenges and managing of ... one's own life. According to Erikson, identity is experienced during the whole life, but is most dynamicand intensive especially in childhood and adolescence. However, this isonly one side; the other is contributed by the society. For an independent inclusion into society it is important, namely that an adolescent (and later on, of course, an adult) is accepted by the people, and that his/her deeds andendeavours are acknowledged. In the period of adulthood social pressures donot yield and forgive. The more a profession is demanding, responsible and under an incessant exposure of public criticism, the more a person can find himself in the dark, on the cross-roads, in a vacuum; which as a consequence may lead to at least an intellectual skepsis if not to a more severe existential distress. An individual in the society is therefore not an isolated island he/she does not live by him/herself or side by side with another person, but one with the other resp. one through the other. Human ideas, perceptions and sensations of oneself and subjective perception of the world and in connedion with this, the forming of the PERSONAL IDENTITY does not depend merely on the person's interpretations, views and expectations, butalso (or maybe more so) by recognition and acknowledgement by the others. An individual identifies himself with such social verifications. This is therefore a matter of adjustment and adaptation of one's own private opinion (autoreflexion) with the opinion, which is in the firm possession of the society (SOCIAL IDENTITY).
