  • Reševanje in nujna medicinska pomoč na težko dostopnem terenu ter bolnišnična obravnava politravmatiziranega gozdnega delavca = Rescue and emergency medical treatment in hard to access terrain and hospital treatment of polytraumatized forest worker
    Tomazin, Iztok, 1960-, dr. med.
A case of a 41-year-old forest worker who fell 70 m into a gorge together witha bulldozer during the Slovene war of independence in 1991 is presented. The polytraumatized victim was located in a ... difficult to access area between two waterfalls. A female doctor from the local health centre was unable to reach him. Soon after that, another doctor from the same centre, a member of the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of Slovenia, climbed to the victim and beganto give him medical assistance. At the same time, he mobilized an MRS group. In the field, the diagnostics and therapeutic measures (protection fromcold, analgesia and immobilization) were very difficult to perform and incomplete because of the circumstances (water, cold, noise and lack of equipment). After the arrival of the MRS group, the victim was lowered down the gorge to an emergency vehicle and slowly transported (the roads were blocked), together with the doctor, to the Jesenice Hospital. Emergency assessment, therapy and outcome are described.
