    The concentration of manganese in surficial marine sediment were studied in an attempt to established some characteristics of its distribution in the Adriatic Sea. Results indicated that the highest ... concentrations of up to 3760 ppm were restricted to the Jabuka Pit (central Adriatic) where most probably hydrogenous precipitation of colloidal metal hydroxides led to the formation of ferromanganese incrustation and coatings on the surfaces of mollusk shells and shell fragments exposed to seawater.
