  • Lastnosti in uporaba zatičkov iz cirkonijeve oksidne keramike v fiksni protetiki = New zirconia posts: mechanical properties and clinical procedure
    Oblak, Čedomir ...
Background: Zirconia posts made of partially stabilized ceramic have favourable optical and mechanical properties and represent a promising alternative to metal systems. This study evaluated the ... fracture resistance of prefabricated zirconia posts with a new retentive head following different surface treatments. Materials and methods: Experimental zirconia posts of two different diameters, 1.3 mm and 1.5 mm, were produced from commercially available zirconia powder. A cylindro-conical outline form was used for the root portion of the system, and a post head with three retentive rings was designed. Sixty posts of each diameter were nn` divided into three groups (n=20). Group 1 was ground, group 2 was airborne-particle abraded, and group 3was left untreated (controls). The posts were luted into root-shaped artificial canals. They were loaded in a universal testing machine, and the fracture load (N) was recorded. The statistical significance of differences among groups was analyzed with ANOVA, followed by the Fischer LSD test (a=0.05) and Weibull statistics. Results: Posts with ground surfaces showed lower fracture load values than controls, but significant differences (P<0.05)were found only for the wider diameter. Airborne-particle abraded posts of both diameters exhibited significantly higher fracture resistance than ground posts and controls (P<0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that grinding reduces the fracture resistance of zirconia posts and should therefore be avoided. Airborne-particle abrasion is recommended as it increases fracture resistance, although it makes the post less reliable. Clinical and laboratory procedures used in the construction of zirconia posts are presented.
