  • Unusual causes of acute myocardial infarction : a report on two cases = Neobičajni vzroki akutnega miokardnega infarkta : prikaz dveh kliničnih primerov
    Bunc, Matjaž ; Starc, Radovan
In most cases acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the result of complicationson atherosclerotically affected coronary arteries (CA). However, AMI may also occur when the CA are normal or nearly ... normal. In that case the formation of thrombus and coronary spasm should be the leading causes of ischemic events. There are some triggers of coronary artery spasm such as exercise, cold, hyperventilation, alkalosis and drugs such as methacholine, epinephrine, ergot alkaloids, thromboxane A2, cigarette smoking and alcohol. In our case reports we present of a 47-year-old man without atherosclerotic changes on CA who developed AMI after alcohol intoxication, and a 38-year-old man with intact CA who suffered AMI after vigorous exercise are presented. Both case reports are illustrative and could contribute to further clinical evaluation of the mechanisms of AMI.
