  • Z vsadki podprte zobne proteze = Implant supported removable dental prosthesis
    Kuhar, Milan
Conventional dental prostheses are supported by oral tissues, i.e. the gingivaand the remaining natural teeth. The introduction of dental implants toclinical dentistry led to the development of a new ... type of removable dental prosthesis, which is supported and retained by two implants in the anterior region of the jaw and rests on the gingiva in the posterior region. Because ofits similarity to the conventional overdenture, it was named the implant supported overdenture. The main differences between the se two types of prostheses are in sensorial proprioception of the periodotium and the osseointegrated implant, resilience of the tooth and the implant, survival rate of teeth and implants, and costs of rehabilitation.ln modern implant dentistry, we use a variety of removable complete and partial prostheses, supported by implants, remaining teeth andjor the gingiva. For many of them the name implant supported overdenture is inappropriate, because implants are not always the only or the dominant means of support. The transfer of chewing forces to the supporting structures under the prosthesis depends on the size of the supporting area, the connection between the toothjimplant and the prosthesis, resilience of supporting structures and their number, existence ofperiodontal proprioception, rigidity of the prosthesis, and distance betweelil the fulcrum of the prothesis and the chewing force. A removable dental prosthesis which is supported and retained with a resilient connection on implants in the anterior region, whereas the chewing force in the posteriorregion is stili fully transferred to the edentulous alveolar ridge isan implant-gingiva supported overdenture.
