  • Nevrološke bolezni, ki zahtevajo umetno ventilacijo = Neurological diseases which require artificial ventilation
Grosek, Štefan ; Jakomin, Mojca ; Primožič, Mojca
Artificial ventilation of pediatric patients with neurological and neuro-muscular diseases is not uncommon in pediatric intensive car units despite the fact that some diseases have almost disappeared ... in Slovenia (poliomyelitis, botulism, tetanus). If a child with a known or unknown neurological disease develops respiratory insufficiency suddenly, we admit thechild into the ICU and start with artificial ventilation. When the diagnosis and prognosis of the child with a neurological disease and respiratory insufficiency is clear we decide to centinue or to stop the ventilation. For some patients we recommend home ventilation. The pediatric intensive care provider has to be cautious with some drugs (relaxants, aminoglyosides, steroids) commonly used in the ICU which can aggravate the neurological disease and respiratory insufficiency.
