  • Zvišana telesna temperatura pri okužbah = Fever in infections
Reberšek Gorišek, Jelka ; Novak, Zmago
Fever is an elevation of body temperature due to disturbances in the thermoregulatory centre. Infection is often the cause. In humans the themoregulatory centre is the preoptic area of the ... hypothalamus acting as a thermostat and ensuring constant body temperature determined by the set-point.The elevation of body temperature occurs due to a change of the set-point to a higher value. Fever is mostly induced by endogenous pyorgens also called pyorgenic cytokines. They are produced b the human organism as a response are usually microblal products, toxins or microbes themselves. Pyorgenic cytokines cause fever by means of biochemical changes in the hypothalamus. Here the stimulation of prostoglandin synthesis, resulting in a rise of the set-point, is of particular importance. The essence of fever therapy in infections is the treatment of the ineffective agent.
