    Tramadol is a moderately potent analgesic, an opioid receptor agonist which possesses an additional effect resulting in a potentiation of the descending pain inhibition route in the spinal cord. The ... multicentre study on the efficacy and safety of Tramadol in the alleviation of acute postoperative painin orthopedic surgery and traumatology included 74 patients. Additionally,Tramadol was administered to 30 cancer patients suffering from moderate or severe chronic pain. On 6 postoperative days, 90% of the patients reported that the alleviation of pain with Tramadol was excellent or good. Thealleviation of chronic pain with Tramadol was also assessed as excellent orgood by 80% of the cancer patients.
