  • Quasi-numerical model for the determination of residual stresses

    Researches have shown that residual stresses occur in heat treated materials where they strongly influence the stress field, and this together with the external load represents the total loading ... value. Residual stresses also profoundly affect the fracture mechanics parameters in case of elements with cracks. If we have no adequate measuring equipment we can use the simplified but accurate enough substitute, the quasi-numerical models. The model for the computation of residual stresses and/or their inclusion in the determining stress field by FEM will be presented. The model is suitable for the determination of residual stresses on toothed gears and gear wheels. They can be also used with minimum modifications for other cases where the expected course of residual stresses is known.
