The eFEDS survey is a proof-of-concept mini-survey designed to demonstrate the survey science capabilities of SRG/eROSITA. It covers an area of 140 square degrees where 542 galaxy clusters have been ...detected out to a redshift of 1.3. The eFEDS field is partly embedded in the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) S19A data release, which covers 510 square degrees, containing approximately 36 million galaxies. This galaxy catalogue is used to construct a sample of 180 shear-selected galaxy clusters. In the common area to both surveys, about 90 square degrees, we investigate the effects of selection methods in the galaxy cluster detection by comparing the X-ray selected, eFEDS, and the shear-selected, HSC-SSP S19A, galaxy cluster samples. There are 25 shear-selected clusters in the eFEDS footprint. The relation between X-ray bolometric luminosity and weak-lensing mass is investigated, and it is found that the normalization of the bolometric luminosity and mass relation of the X-ray selected and shear-selected samples is consistent within \(1\sigma\). Moreover, we found that the dynamical state and merger fraction of the shear-selected clusters is not different from the X-ray selected ones. Four shear-selected clusters are undetected in X-rays. A close inspection reveals that one is the result of projection effects, while the other three have an X-ray flux below the ultimate eROSITA detection limit. Finally, 43% of the shear-selected clusters lie in superclusters. Our results indicate that the scaling relation between X-ray bolometric luminosity and true cluster mass of the shear-selected cluster sample is consistent with the eFEDS sample. There is no significant population of X-ray underluminous clusters, indicating that X-ray selected cluster samples are complete and can be used as an accurate cosmological probe.
To understand the involvement of thyroid hormone on the postnatal development of hypothalamic thermosensitive neurons, we focused on the analysis of thermosensitive neuronal activity in the preoptic ...and anterior hypothalamic (PO/AH) regions of developing rats with and without hypothyroidism. In euthyroid rats, the distribution of thermosensitive neurons in PO/AH showed that in 3-week-old rats (46 neurons tested), 19.5% were warm-sensitive and 80.5% were nonsensitive. In 5- to 12-week-old euthyroid rats (122 neurons), 33.6% were warm-sensitive and 66.4% were nonsensitive. In 5- to 12-week-old hypothyroid rats (108 neurons), however, 18.5% were warm-sensitive and 81.5% were nonsensitive. Temperature thresholds of warm-sensitive neurons were lower in 12-week-old euthyroid rats (36.4+/-0.2 degrees C, n = 15, p<0.01,) than in 3-week-old and in 5-week-old euthyroid rats (38.5+/-0.5 degrees C, n = 9 and 38.0+/-0.3 degrees C, n = 15, respectively). The temperature thresholds of warm-sensitive neurons in 12-week-old hypothyroid rats (39.5+/-0.3 degrees C, n = 8) were similar to that of warm-sensitive neurons of 3-week-old raats (euthyroid and hypothyroid). In contrast, there was no difference in the thresholds of warm-sensitive neurons between hypothyroid and euthyroid rats at the age of 3-5 weeks. In conclusion, monitoring the thermosensitive neuronal tissue activity demonstrated the evidence that thyroid hormone regulates the maturation of warm-sensitive hypothalamic neurons in developing rat brain by electrophysiological analysis.
1. The exact role of the parathyroid hormone-related peptide (PTHrP) is not fully understood. We used immunohistochemistry to localize the PTHrP and its receptor in the brain of the red stingray, ...particularly in the saccus vasculosus (SV) and choroid plexus. 2. Immunoreactive PTHrP and its receptor were detected in the epithelial cells of the SV and the choroid plexus. In addition, the neuronal perikarya in the nucleus of the SV located in the hypothalamus is positive for the PTHrP. 3. No PTHrP-containing neurons were detected in the choroid plexus. Extracts of SV and choroid plexus showed positive reactions against the PTHrP and its receptor antibody in Western blot analysis. 4. High levels of immunoreactive PTHrP were detected in the plasma equivalent to those present in human humoral malignant hypercalcemia. In contrast, the immunoreactive PTHrP concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid was below detectable levels. 5. Our results suggest that the regulation of the PTHrP in the SV differs from that in the choroid plexus in the red stingray.

Screen-camera communications, using a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and camera image sensors, have been attractive variants of visible light communications (VLC) since any external ...light-emitting modules and photo detectors are required for recent mobile devices, which are usually equipped with display and camera. A major issue in screen-camera communications is a performance loss in transmission rate due to nonlinear channel impairments with ambient noise. To improve transmission rates, we investigate the impact of nonlinear channel equalization, nonbinary channel coding, probabilistic shaping, and nonlinear precoding for high-order modulation schemes. Experimental evaluations using an LCD screen and camera demonstrate that our proposed scheme achieves 3.8-3.3 times higher transmission rates compared to existing schemes for a communication distance of 60-160 cm.
