This study explores the cultural diversity-related challenges in the primary classrooms, examines the reasons, effects of and solutions to these challenges, and identifies teacher profiles based on ...how they react to those challenges. Employing critical incident technique, we analyzed qualitative data from 650 primary teachers inductively. Results showed that primary teachers frequently faced challenges related to ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status and disability. The most salient challenges were identified as low academic achievement, student adaptation, bullying and challenges in implementing the curriculum. As a result of the analysis, three teacher profiles emerged as the strugglers, the dreamkeepers, and the color-evasive teachers.
This research aimed at evaluating Induction to teaching Program according to the opinions of novice teachers, mentors and administrators is a qualitative research carried out in the pattern of ...phenomenology. The data of the study were collected through semi-structured interviews with 40 novice teachers, 43 mentors and 5 school administrators. Content analysis was done in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was concluded that an information meeting was held at the beginning of the training program but it was inadequate, that the mentors were not volunteers, that they were more planned and programmed compared to the teaching practice received during the undergraduate education, that it was taken more serious, that performing the induction to teaching program at the place appointed had advantages, and that there are several issues caused by the novice teacher, mentor and the process. For the continuity of the application, proposals such as reducing the number of forms filled in the process, ensuring volunteerism in mentors, supervision of the interaction between the novice teacher and mentor, performing the processes at the place to which they are appointed were developed.
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is the standard front-line treatment modality in locally advanced breast cancer. Achieving pathological complete response (pCR) is a significant prognostic factor for ...prolonged disease-free and overall survival. Insulin resistance is defined as a pathological condition in which insulin effect is impaired in peripheral target tissues such as the skeletal muscle, liver, and adipose tissue. The relationship between breast cancer and insulin resistance is controversial. In this study, our aim is to evaluate the role of insulin resistance, body mass index (BMI), metabolic syndrome, and inflammation markers to predict complete response in breast cancer patients who underwent neoadjuvant treatment.
Data from 55 locally advanced non-diabetic breast cancer patients, treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy between 2015 and 2017, were retrospectively evaluated. Homeostatic model assessment, IR = insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated by using the obtained insulin and fasting blood glucose values before neoadjuvant chemotherapy (fasting insulin × fasting glucose/405). We considered a cut-off of 2.5 for insulin resistance. The systemic inflammatory index (SII), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were calculated.
Twenty-five patients had no insulin resistance. The most common pathologic subtype (56%) was hormone receptor (HR) positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (Her-2)-negative invasive ductal carcinoma. Sixteen (29%) patients had a pathological complete response (pCR). We found that the probability of pCR in patients with insulin resistance was 4.7 times lower than that in patients without insulin resistance OR: 4.7 (95%CI 1.7-17.2), p = 0.01.
Our results revealed that insulin resistance may have a negative effect on pathological complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant therapy particularly with hormone-positive and Her-2-negative cases of non-diabetic breast cancer.
Learning takes place in various spaces through human and nonhuman interactions. Considering the urgent need for rethinking how humans relate to nature, in this article we present a MA level course in ...the context of art, craft and design to discuss how learning with the natural environment approach can impact learning experiences. We introduce walking with nature as a creative method that fosters students’ ability to let the environment actively shape their creative events. The encounter with nature‐based materials in their different forms and following the material's flow provides students with a foundation for their creative processes. This study proposes that walking can facilitate the entanglement between the student's knowledge and encountered materials, generating an emotional and dialogical relationship with the natural environment that contributes to a holistic learning experience. We propose that such an experience can help in comprehending the importance of the caring actions we need to take and maintain towards the nonhuman world.
There is growing consensus that multigene prognostic tests provide useful complementary information to tumor size and grade in estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancers. The tests primarily rely ...on quantification of ER and proliferation-related genes and combine these into multivariate prediction models. Since ER-negative cancers tend to have higher proliferation rates, the prognostic value of current multigene tests in these cancers is limited. First-generation prognostic signatures (Oncotype DX, MammaPrint, Genomic Grade Index) are substantially more accurate to predict recurrence within the first 5 years than in later years. This has become a limitation with the availability of effective extended adjuvant endocrine therapies. Newer tests (Prosigna, EndoPredict, Breast Cancer Index) appear to possess better prognostic value for late recurrences while also remaining predictive of early relapse. Some clinical prediction problems are more difficult to solve than others: there are no clinically useful prognostic signatures for ER-negative cancers, and drug-specific treatment response predictors also remain elusive. Emerging areas of research involve the development of immune gene signatures that carry modest but significant prognostic value independent of proliferation and ER status and represent candidate predictive markers for immune-targeted therapies. Overall metrics of tumor heterogeneity and genome integrity (for example, homologue recombination deficiency score) are emerging as potential new predictive markers for platinum agents. The recent expansion of high-throughput technology platforms including low-cost sequencing of circulating and tumor-derived DNA and RNA and rapid reliable quantification of microRNA offers new opportunities to build extended prediction models across multiplatform data.

Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a reactive, multifocal, multicentric, angiogenic neoplastic proliferation that is thought to originate from endothelial cells that are infected with human herpesvirus-8 ...(HHV-8). This report examines a cohort of patients with classic Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) evaluated at the national institute of oncology over the 13-year period.
A retrospective analysis of 156 patients with classic KS, between January 2000 and November 2013, was performed. This study focused on the clinical presentation, staging, diagnosis, and treatment of classic KS.
One hundred fifty-six patients (median age 69 and 115 male) were enrolled into the study. Median age at diagnosis was 69 (range: 32–95 years). Male/female ratio was 2.80. The most common location was the lower limbs. There were 75 stage I patients (48.1%), 8 stage II patients (22.4%), 31 stage III patients (19.9%) and 15 stage IV patients (9.6%). Surgery was the most common local treatment method (43%). 44 patients (28.2%) received radiotherapy (RT) at diagnosis. Cytotoxic treatment with chemotherapy or interferon-α was administered in 57 patients. Visceral involvement was observed in 10 patients (lung: nine patients, liver: one patient) and bone metastasis occurred in two patients at relapse.
This study is one of the largest reported series. Further studies are required and it will be important to standardize the assessment of disease activity and clinical response.

Knitting is often practiced as a group activity that takes place in the domestic environment. Besides the collectivity, using motifs with meanings has also facilitated communication between people. ...Building on these ideas, a workshop was designed to facilitate discussions about everyday concerns or experiences, both on personal and societal levels, to strengthen communication with the self and others. In the workshop, the thirteen participants were asked to design a motif to convey a message to themselves, to the group or to the society. Through a group discussion, the motifs stemming from personal experiences were knitted, shared and discussed. The topics emerging from the workshop indicates that knitting affords intimate exchanges between the self and others, and connects people by facilitating socio-political discussions, such as on environmental sustainability, women rights and self-development.
This paper explores how design students overcome various obstacles they encounter during their design processes. By studying the processes of three textile design students during their weaving ...course, we investigated the forces and agencies that help overcome or accommodate obstacles by developing solutions. The interview data showed that while learning and advancing a skill, in our case weaving, various obstacles emerge through direct and indirect interactions. By recognizing how to position themselves and build relationalities, students start working with various agencies to develop ways of being with these obstacles. Our findings propose that experiencing obstacles fosters the learning process of students by leading them to actively look for ways of being with other elements while becoming more skillful in their practice.
