Wanneer een werk wordt vertaald, voltrekken zich twee processen die deels met elkaar verweven zijn en deels in elkaars verlengde liggen. Het werk ondergaat een transformatie van de ene naar de andere ...taal, waarbij vaak de nodige assimilaties en accommodaties plaatsvinden. Maar daarnaast wordt het werk geografisch en cultureel van de eigen context losgesneden en naar een nieuwe culturele ruimte verplaatst. Het werk wordt vanuit die nieuwe ruimte waargenomen en krijgt daarin een plaats toegewezen. De mate waarin en de manier waarop deze plaats die van een ‘ander’ blijft dan wel geïntegreerd raakt, zegt niet alleen iets over het ‘vreemde’
Malgré ses limites, l’archéologie du culte peut apporter beaucoup à la connaissance de la religion de l’époque romaine. Depuis une vingtaine d’années, le développement de l’archéologie ...stratigraphique et des sciences appliquées à l’archéologie moderne (notamment l’archéozoologie et la carpologie) donne des informations nouvelles sur l’évolution des lieux de culte ainsi que sur l’activité sacrificielle organisée dans les sanctuaires, les maisons et les nécropoles. S’appuyant sur des vestiges cérémoniels provenant de lieux de culte publics et de contextes domestiques et funéraires de Pompéi, cet article propose d’évaluer l’apport de tels restes à notre connaissance des rituels et de leur organisation. L’état carbonisé des vestiges rencontrés oriente vers l’identification des parts du sacrifice réservées aux dieux et par conséquent brûlées sur la flamme de l’autel ou du foyer de la cuisine. Si les mêmes fruits (pomme de pin, figue, raisin, datte, noix et noisette) et les mêmes espèces animales (porc, mouton, coq domestique) reviennent d’un dépôt à l’autre, les quelques exemples présentés montrent surtout une grande variété dans les assemblages sélectionnés pour être enfouis. Cette variété renvoie de toute évidence à la richesse des constructions rituelles mises en œuvre dans les relations établies avec les dieux de la cité.
The electromagnetic and the muonic longitudinal profile at production enclosure important information about the primary particle and the hadronic interactions that rule the shower development. In ...fact, these two profiles provide two different insights of the shower: the electromagnetic component gives a measurement of the energy and the strength of the neutral pion channel; while the muonic profile, being intimately related with the charged mesons decays, can be used as a direct probe for the high energy hadronic interactions. In this work we explore the interplay between the electromagnetic and muonic profiles, by analysing their phenomenologic behaviour for different primary masses and energies, zenith angles, and also different high energy hadronic interaction models. We have found that the muonic longitudinal profile at production displays universal features similar to what is known for the electromagnetic one. Moreover, we show that both profiles have new primary mass composition variables which are fairly independent of the high energy hadronic interaction model. Finally we discuss how the information in the electromagnetic and the muonic longitudinal profile can be combined to break the degeneracy between the primary mass composition and the high energy hadronic physics.
The concept of Universal Shower Profile is used to characterize the average behavior of high energy cosmic rays. The shape variables contain important information about composition. They are ...independent of the primary cross-section by construction, but affected by other hadronic parameters, like multiplicity. The two variables give access to the average nuclear mass of the sample and their compatibility serves as a test of hadronic models.
The Gaborone dam wall was raised 8 m in 1984-1986 and the reservoir serves as the main water supply for the city of Gaborone, Botswana. At various depths in the reservoir the water temperatures were ...measured from late 1986 to 1988. The temperatures ranged from 11°C to 27°C during the year with an average of 19°C while differences between upper layers and the bottom layers of the lake remained below 3°. The daily fluctuations in temperature at the surface was about 2°C. During the measurements the level of the lake increased from 12 m in 1987 to 18 m in 1988; by March 1988 the newly constructed spillway overflowed. The water is in considerable movement and the temperature gradient is low. This paper presents the results of the monthly measurements of the temperature of the water in the reservoir.
