Discoveries at the LHC will soon set the physics agenda for future colliders. This report of a CERN Theory Institute includes the summaries of Working Groups that reviewed the physics goals and ...prospects of LHC running with 10 to 300 fb−1 of integrated luminosity, of the proposed sLHC luminosity upgrade, of the ILC, of CLIC, of the LHeC and of a muon collider. The four Working Groups considered possible scenarios for the first 10 fb−1 of data at the LHC in which (i) a state with properties that are compatible with a Higgs boson is discovered, (ii) no such state is discovered either because the Higgs properties are such that it is difficult to detect or because no Higgs boson exists, (iii) a missing-energy signal beyond the Standard Model is discovered as in some supersymmetric models, and (iv) some other exotic signature of new physics is discovered. In the contexts of these scenarios, the Working Groups reviewed the capabilities of the future colliders to study in more detail whatever new physics may be discovered by the LHC. Their reports provide the particle physics community with some tools for reviewing the scientific priorities for future colliders after the LHC produces its first harvest of new physics from multi-TeV collisions.
Charged Higgs boson production via the gluon-bottom quark mode, gb → \(tH^{\pm}\), followed by its decay into a chargino and a neutralino has been investigated. The calculations are based on masses ...and couplings given by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) for a specific choice of MSSM parameters. The signature of the signal is characterized by three hard leptons, a substantial missing transverse energy due to the decay of the neutralino and the chargino and three hard jets from the hadronic decay of the top quark. The possibility of detecting the signal over the Standard Model (SM) and non-SM backgrounds was studied for a set of \(\tan\beta\) and mA. The existence of 5-\(\sigma\) confidence level regions for \(H^{\pm}\) discovery at integrated luminosities of 100 fb-1 and 300 fb-1 is demonstrated, which cover also the intermediate region 4 \(\lesssim\)\(\tan\beta\)\(\lesssim\) 10 where \(H^{\pm}\) decays to SM particles cannot be used for \(H^{\pm}\) discovery.

The ATLAS digitization project is steered by a top-level Python digitization package which ensures uniform and consistent configuration across the sub-detectors. The properties of the digitization ...algorithms were tuned to reproduce the detector response seen in lab tests, test beam data and cosmic ray running. Dead channels and noise rates are read from database tables to reproduce conditions seen in a particular run. The digits are then persistified as Raw Data Objects with or without intermediate simulation of the exact data acquisition format depending on the detector type. Emphasis is put on the description of the digitization project configuration, its flexibility in handling events for processing and in the global detector configuration. Other options available, including detector noise simulation, random number service, metadata and details of pile-up background events to be overlaid, are also described. The LHC beam bunch spacing is also configurable, as well as the number of bunch crossings to overlay and the default detector conditions (including noisy channels, dead electronics associated with each detector layout). Cavern background calculation, beam halo and beam gas treatment and pile-up with real data are also part of this report.
To achieve the highest level of intellectual excellence calls for the greatest extent of diversity. However, due to the unjust institutional and societal barriers, the field of particle physics ...remains as one of the least diverse fields, severely limiting the potential of our scientific achievements. In order for the US Particle Physics Community, including the accelerator science and engineering fields, to remain at the forefront of global scientific leadership, it is imperative for our community to act urgently and diligently to improve the status quo of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). This report summarizes the community contributions and recommendations within the Diversity and Inclusion Topical Group of the Community Engagement Frontier (CEF3) at the Snowmass 2021.
Accessibility to participation in the high energy physics community can be impeded by many barriers. These barriers must be acknowledged and addressed to make access more equitable in the future. An ...accessibility survey, the Snowmass Summer Study attendance survey, and an improved accessibility survey were sent to the Snowmass2021 community. This paper will summarize and present the barriers that prevent people from participating in the Snowmass2021 process,recommendations for the various barriers, and discussions of resources and funding needed to enact these recommendations, based on the results of all three surveys, along with personal experiences of the community members.
