Magnesium is the fourth most common mineral in the human body and the second richest intracellular cation. This element is necessary for many physiological reactions, especially in the cardiovascular ...and respiratory systems. COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. The majority of people who become ill as a result of COVID-19 have mild-to-moderate symptoms and recover without specific treatment. Moreover, there are people who develop severe forms of COVID-19, which require highly specialized medical assistance. Magnesium deficiency may play a role in the pathophysiology of infection with SARS-CoV-2. The primary manifestation of COVID-19 remains respiratory, but the virus can spread to other organs and tissues, complicating the clinical picture and culminating in multiorgan failure. The key mechanisms involved in the disease include direct viral cytotoxicity, endothelial dysfunction, and exaggerated release of inflammatory cytokines. The aim of this review was to summarize the available data regarding the role of magnesium in COVID-19 patients and its particularities in different clinical settings.
The aim of this paper is to describe the temporal progression and clinical picture of a 2-year-old child with infantile Refsum disease, as well as the diagnostic procedures performed; this case ...presented multiple hematologic, metabolic, and developmental complications and progressive disabilities. Genetic testing revealed a mutation of the
(Peroxisomal Biogenesis Factor 6) gene, and the metabolic profile was consistent with the diagnosis. Particularly, the child also presented altered coagulation factors and developed a spontaneous brain hemorrhage. The clinical picture includes several neurological, ophthalmological, digestive, cutaneous, and endocrine disorders as a result of the very long chain fatty acid accumulation as well as secondary oxidative anomalies. The study of metabolic disorders occurring because of genetic mutations is a subject of core importance in the pathology of children today. The PEX mutations, difficult to identify antepartum, are linked to an array of cell anomalies with severe consequences on the patient's status, afflicting multiple organs and systems. This is the reason for which our case history may be relevant, including a vast number of symptoms, as well as modified biological parameters.
Introduction: Considering the generalized Internet access as well as the electronic communication, teens and young adults are at risk for a new type of dependency, the Internet addiction, with a high ...impact on the personal and professional life, as well as on the school performance. Objective: The current paper aims to introduce in the clinical practice a validated diagnosis tool for this new condition, allowing the proper identification of the problem cases for counselling and specific approach by the Family Physician and the Child Psychiatrist. Method: The IAT (Internet Addiction Test), created by Kimberly Young, was selected and applied on two small groups of patients from a Family Medicine practice (Group A) and a Child Psychiatry practice (Group B) from an urban setting, city of Iași. Results: Accordingly to the test standard interpretation, the patients have been divided in: average user (20 49p) 28 cases (70%), occasional or frequent problem presenting user (50 79p) 11 cases (27,5%), significant problem presenting user (80 100p) 1 case (2,5%). The group of patients presenting to the Child Psychiatry practice for other issues had a higher incidence of Internet addiction problems. Conclusions: The Family Physician must screen for Internetassociated problems to discover early stage excessive users. The validated screening tools are useful in the current practice and the specialty counselling is extremely important for this specific population.
Classic polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a vasculitis with systemic manifestations that is characterized by inflammatory and necrotizing lesions affecting medium and small muscular arteries, most ...frequently at the bifurcation of the vessels. These lesions lead to the formation of microaneurysms, hemorrhaging ruptured aneurysms, thrombosis, and, consequently, ischemia or organ infarction.
: We present a complex clinical case of a patient with a late diagnosis of polyarteritis nodosa with multiorgan involvement.
: The 44-year-old patient, in an urban environment, presented on her own in the emergency room for acute ischemia phenomena and forearm and right-hand compartment syndrome, requiring surgical decompression in the Plastic Surgery Clinic.
: Significant inflammatory syndrome is noted, alongside severe normocytic hypochromic iron deficiency anemia, nitrogen retention syndrome, hyperkalemia, hepatic syndrome, and immunological disturbances: absence of cANCA, pANCA, anti Scl 70 Ac, antinuclear Ac, and anti dDNA Ac, as well as a low C3 fraction of the plasmatic complement system. The morphological aspect described in the right-hand skin biopsy correlated with the clinical data supports the diagnosis of PAN.
: The viral form of PAN seems to be individualized as a distinct entity, requiring early, aggressive medication.

The bulk of the subject population was made of 211 (39%) prisoners of the 20-29 age group, 148 prisoners of the 30-39 age group (27%), with a precarious marital status and having a low level of ...education. The frequency of the subjects who administer drugs by injection shots was significantly higher at the VHB/C group (10,2%), as compared to the witness group (2,4%), a frequency which is statistically significant (p=0,001). The intake of cocaine as crack was small in both investigated groups (7,4% vs 4,2%), as the frequency differences were statistically insignificant (p=0,264). Based on the type of aggression, by drawing the ROC curve it is confirmed that self-aggression is an important risk factor. Physical aggression was present with 57,1% of the subjects (57,1% vs 42,9%) with previous criminal records, sexual aggression with 73% (73% vs 27%), whereas self-aggression with (58,5% vs 41,5%,). Incarcerated individuals suffer from a consistent psychiatrically and somatically pathology, as compared to the general population. It needs specific, multi-disciplinary measures. The psychotherapy component plays an important part in preventing the spread of the disease.
The study aims at identifying the specific risk factors for chronic hepatitis in the prison environment in the area of Moldavia. The research took place in the medical offices from the prisons in ...Northern Moldavia and encompasses patients - individuals deprived of freedom that were newly-admitted in prison but also the already-imprisoned ones, with sentences of over 5 years, to whom a specific questionnaire was applied and biologically the presence of viral hepatitis B and C was identified. According with the presence of the infection with hepatitis virus B/C, the study group was divided in 2 lots: Lot VHB/C - 108 subjects to whom the B/C hepatic virus was negative as a result of testing; witness Lot - 425 subjects to whom the hepatic virus B/C proved negative as a result of testing. The epidemiologic profile of the imprisoned patient is that of a relatively young population, the studied lot has highlighted the age group 20-29 , 211 (39%) of the prisoners, and at the age-group between 30 to 39 148 prisoners (27%) with a challenging family situation, only 97 being married (18%) and 38.5% in nonmarital relationships, with a low schooling level, more than 64% had dropped school without graduating secondary school, more than 40% being without occupation. The profile of the newly-admitted in prison shows that 58.34% of the studied prisoners have criminal antecedents and they are recidivists.

To identify the specific risk factors for chronic hepatitis B/C virus infections in the correctional system in Moldova (Romania).
The study included 533 subjects imprisoned in three correctional ...facilities located in the Northern region of Moldova. The subjects were divided into 2 groups: HBV/HBC group--108; Control group--425.
The risk factor for transfusion-contracted HBV/HCV was 3.73; the empirical treatment of the HBV/HBC group resulted in a relative infection risk of 2.62; syringe sharing in the HBV/HBC group accounted for a risk factor of over 4 (OR = 4.33); tattooing induced a relative risk factor of 1.25, and piercing was a risk factor of approximately 2 (OR = 1.97); sharing personal care items represented a risk factor of over 2 (OR = 2.02). Injection drugs induced a relative risk of over 4 (OR = 4.33). In the HBV/HCV group, self-aggression represented a risk factor of 1.65.
Prison environment, by its specific and nonspecific contamination modalities (shared with the rest of the population but more common) causes that inmates to be 2-4 times more exposed to hepatitis B/C infection.
