During in vitro multiplication of Hosta ‘Gold Drop’, 20 g l-1 sucrose, 5.5 g l-1 agar and 4 concentrations (0.1-0.8 ml l-1) of Ferbanat L, Kelpak, Pentakeep-V were added to half-strength Murashige ...and Skoog (MS) basal medium. As compared to the control and other biostimulators, plants with lower peroxidase activity, larger fresh weight, more, longer shoots and roots, larger leaves were developed on medium containing Kelpak. The best concentration was 0.4 ml l-1 for in vitro rooting, shoot formation, plant weight and ex vitro chlorophyll, carotenoid level, peroxidase activity. Pentakeep was the less efficient biostimulator, increasing of its concentration mostly decreased root and shoot values (furthermore, abnormal callus formation was observed, as non-wanted effect), chlorophyll content and sizes (length, width) of leaves, not only during in vitro propagation but also (as after-effect) acclimatization because of the high mortality and weakly developed survivor plants.
Isoflurane is a halogenated volatile anesthetic. It is generally believed that modern inhaled anesthetics are not themselves toxic but their intermediates might be. Whether isoflurane exposure ...results in any alteration in oncogene and tumour suppressor gene expression was investigated here.
CBA/CA H-2(k) mice were anesthetized with isoflurane for 1 hour. The expression alterations of c-myc, Ha-ras and p53 genes were investigated in the vital organs 3, 24 and 48 hours later.
Expression patterns of the investigated genes differed both in magnitude and time course according to gender. Overexpressions were detected after 24 hours in both sexes, but in females, overexpression of all investigated genes remained high in all organs at 48 hours, except in the bone-marrow.
Considerable overexpression of two oncogenes and a tumour suppressor gene after isoflurane exposure were found.
By the radiographic examination of pet and wild birds, veterinary clinicians may relatively easily obtain additional information that can be used routinely in their everyday diagnostic and ...therapeutic work. The first part of the present review summarizes the basic technical conditions of radiological examinations, analyses the radiographic features of healthy birds, and describes the procedure and radiological indications of contrast radiography.
The second part of the review dealing with the diagnostic radiology of pet and wild birds discusses the indications of radiological examination, the interpretation of radiographs taken of ...pathological lesions, and the differential diagnosis of such lesions. Radiology has paramount importance in the diagnosis of diseases affecting the skeletal, digestive, respiratory, urogenital and cardiovascular systems. Certain diseases (shortage of grits, ovarian cysts) cannot be recognised without radiography. Other conditions (e.g. Macaw Wasting Disease, renal tumours, egg retention) require this complementary diagnostic method for confirmation of a suspicion based upon the clinical signs. Radiographic examination is also indicated for follow-up of the surgical management of bone fractures and for facilitating the implantation of transponders aimed at individual identification of the birds.
The first part of the present review summaries the basic technical conditions of radiological examinations, analyses the radiographic features of healthy birds, and describes the procedure and ...radiological indications of contrast radiography. Progressive retinal atrophy or degeneration is a disease affecting the photoreceptor cells of the retina. It is a continously evolving incurable disorder of dogs and cats. PRA is an autosomal ...recessive hereditary disease common is some breeds like Poodles, Pinschers, Irish setters and Labrador retrivers. PRA can be classified into three categories after the time of onset of the irreversible retinal changes that lead to complete blindness of the animal. The most simple method of diagnosis is opthalmoscopy.
