Abstract A polynomial can represent every function from a finite field to itself. The functions which are also permutations of the field give rise to permutation polynomials, which have potential ...applications in cryptology and coding theory. Permutation polynomials over finite rings are studied with respect to the sequences they generate. The sequences obtained through some permutation polynomials are tested for randomness by carrying out known statistical tests. Random number generation plays a major role in cryptography and hence permutation polynomials may be used as random number generators.

Land supplies multiple goods and services vital to humans and the environment. In the last decades, increasing evidence of growing land degradation are made apparent. A limited and depleting resource ...base, the reliance on climate-sensitive sectors and its large population, make South Asia highly vulnerable to climate change. Observed changes in climate include increases in temperature and increased monsoon variability and rainfall pattern leading to drought and flooding. Projected changes include increasing temperatures, rising sea levels, increasing cyclonic activity and higher variability of rainfall, all having enormous impacts on farming communities. At the same time, the region is rich in traditional agricultural knowledge (TAK), specialized in managing local agroecosystems to ensure food availability, tackling climatic risks and other ecological uncertainties. Particularly relevant is TAK related to land management to preserve soil fertility and avoid soil erosion. Ethnographic research is a valuable source of TAK, although this is rarely analysed with a climate change perspective. Based on a qualitative systematic review, and an expert's on-line survey, in this paper we review land management TAK and assess its potential for climate change adaptation. The review shows there is a vast amount of untapped TAK ethnographic research with potential for climate change adaptation.
Aims. Since the CGRO operation in 1991–2000, one of the primary unresolved questions about the blazar γ-ray emission has been its possible correlation with the low-energy (in particular optical) ...emission. To help answer this problem, the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) consortium has organized the GLAST-AGILE Support Program (GASP) to provide the optical-to-radio monitoring data to be compared with the γ-ray detections by the AGILE and GLAST satellites. This new WEBT project started in early September 2007, just before a strong γ-ray detection of 0716+714 by AGILE. Methods. We present the GASP-WEBT optical and radio light curves of this blazar obtained in July–November 2007, about various AGILE pointings at the source. We construct NIR-to-UV spectral energy distributions (SEDs), by assembling GASP-WEBT data together with UV data from the Swift ToO observations of late October. Results. We observe a contemporaneous optical-radio outburst, which is a rare and interesting phenomenon in blazars. The shape of the SEDs during the outburst appears peculiarly wavy because of an optical excess and a UV drop-and-rise. The optical light curve is well sampled during the AGILE pointings, showing prominent and sharp flares. A future cross-correlation analysis of the optical and AGILE data will shed light on the expected relationship between these flares and the γ-ray events.
Purpose
– The paper aims to address the formulation of zirconium and oxalicum additive-based lubricants for use in slide ways to meet the demands of high positioning exactness based on reduction in ...stick–slip and coefficient of friction over a wide speed range and compares the same with commercially available lubricant.
Design/methodology/approach
– An investigation into the frictional properties and stick-slip behavior of lubricating oil is carried out using linear reciprocating tribometer and correlated with ultraviolet spectroscopic analysis.
Findings
– It is observed that these transition metal additive compounds support in increasing the flexibility of the molecular chains leading to improved lubricity.

In this paper, we extend the concepts of Neutrosophy to Boolean function and define ClassicalBalanced, AntiBalanced and NeutroBalanced functions. We consider functions of the form f(x) = Tr(x.sup.d), ...where the exponent d may be Gold exponent, Kasami exponent, Welch exponent or any arbitrary positive integer. We, for different values of d, examine nature of these functions with respect to the above stated three categories. Climate variations are considered one of several interacting factors affecting food security. Specifically, in the Indo-Gangetic Plains, increased exposure to droughts and floods are expected. Local ...traditional knowledge in agriculture (LTKA) is proposed in this article as valid knowledge to ensure food availability under climate change, given its long experience in dealing with climate variability. Focused on water strategies, we have conducted a literature review on LTKA practices in the Indo-Gangetic Plains complemented with a questionnaire of experts to identify LTKA-based practices that might be useful in climate-change driven water scenarios. The practices identified are categorized as a) water harvesting and recycling; b) local irrigation systems; and c) and maintenance, conservation, and water allocation. We found that a) despite acknowledging the potential of LTKA to face floods and droughts, very few studies explicitly make the link between LTKA and climate change; and b) LTKA in water management heavily relays on social norms and local institutions and, thus, any attempts to replicate it need to consider this. We conclude that agroecology can help to promote these practices since it emphasizes the collective management from below as the main approach for the design of sustainable agroecosystems and, thus, include local institutions as an essential strategy for adaptation.
The organic surfactants like CTAB have long been used in numerous methods of chemical synthesis of nanoparticles effectively, in order to avoid agglomeration and provide stability. However, these are ...not really stable at higher temperatures. Hence, in this work, gold nanoparticles have been encapsulated with SiO2 shells along with CTAB surfactant molecules. The thermal behaviour and the associated physicochemical changes in the Au@SiO2 core-shell structures, during the Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), have been studied using several standard characterization techniques like Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, X-ray Diffractometry and UV–Vis Absorption spectroscopy. About 40% weight loss has been observed during the TGA treatment. The TEM results show different stages of agglomeration after TGA, which includes expansion of SiO2 shells, out-diffusion of gold particles and their eventual agglomeration. Detailed FTIR analysis confirms the proposed mechanism, and is well complemented by TEM, XRD and UV–Vis Absorption results.
