Con objetivo de evaluar la calidad acuática de la bahía interior de Puno, se establecieron 12 estaciones de muestreo aleatoriamente, evaluadas mensualmente entre diciembre del 2010 a abril del 2011. ...Se determinaron parámetros fisicoquímicos utilizando las metodologías validadas de EPA y APHA, los nutrientes se determinaron mediante espectrofotometría. La temperatura, oxígeno disuelto, pH, fosfatos, nitratos y nitritos del agua indican que el área próxima a la salida de la laguna de estabilización de la ciudad (Isla Espinar) es una zona crítica de contaminación en la Bahía Interior de Puno. Los valores de transparencia del agua fueron bajos. La conductividad eléctrica del agua registró valores elevados. Los valores de alcalinidad fueron altos (75 – 150 mg/L) y muy altos (>150 mg/L), indicando un alto contenido de carbonatos y bicarbonatos. La dureza total registrada indica aguas duras (121 – 180 mg/L) y muy duras (>180 mg/L). Las altas cantidades de coliformes fecales (E. coli) en aguas cercanas a la Isla Espinar serian el resultado de las descargas de aguas residuales de la ciudad de Puno, sin un tratamiento adecuado.

The parameters of temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, phosphates, nitrates and nitrites of water show that the outlet of the stabilization lagoon of Puno City (Espinar Island) is a critical area of contamination at the inner Puno Bay. Transparency values were low. The electrical conductivity of water showed high values. Alkalinity values were high (75 - 150 mg/L) and very high (> 150 mg/L), indicating a high content of carbonates and bicarbonates. Water hardness were high (121-180 mg/L) and very high (> 180 mg/L). High levels of fecal coliform in waters near the island Espinar would be the result of wastewater discharges from the Puno city, without proper treatment.
