bstract
A comprehensive set of azimuthal single-spin and double-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive leptoproduction of pions, charged kaons, protons, and antiprotons from transversely polarized ...protons is presented. These asymmetries include the previously published HERMES results on Collins and Sivers asymmetries, the analysis of which has been extended to include protons and antiprotons and also to an extraction in a three-dimensional kinematic binning and enlarged phase space. They are complemented by corresponding results for the remaining four single-spin and four double-spin asymmetries allowed in the one-photon-exchange approximation of the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process for target-polarization orientation perpendicular to the direction of the incoming lepton beam. Among those results, significant non-vanishing cos (
ϕ−ϕ
S
) modulations provide evidence for a sizable worm-gear (II) distribution,
g

. Most of the other modulations are found to be consistent with zero with the notable exception of large sin (
ϕ
S
) modulations for charged pions and
K
+
.
Shc (Src homology 2 domain containing) adaptors are ubiquitous components of the signaling pathways triggered by tyrosine kinase-coupled receptors. In lymphocytes, similar to other cell types, the ...p52 and p66 isoforms of ShcA/Shc participate in a self-limiting loop where p52Shc acts as a positive regulator of antigen receptor signaling by promoting Ras activation, whereas p66Shc limits this activity by competitively inhibiting p52Shc. Based on the fact that many signaling mediators are shared by antigen and chemokine receptors, including p52Shc, we have assessed the potential implication of p66Shc in the regulation of B-cell responses to chemokines, focusing on the homing receptors CXCR4 (C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4) and CXCR5 (C-X-C chemokine receptor type 5). The results identify p66Shc as a negative regulator of the chemotactic responses triggered by these receptors, including adhesion, polarization and migration. We also provide evidence that this function is dependent on the ability of p66Shc to interact with the chemokine receptors and promote the assembly of an inhibitory complex, which includes the phosphatases SHP-1 (Src homology phosphatase-1) and SHIP-1 (SH2 domain-containing inositol 5'-phosphatase-1), that results in impaired Vav-dependent reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. This function maps to the phosphorylatable tyrosine residues in the collagen homology 1 (CH1) domain. The results identify p66Shc as a negative regulator of B-cell chemotaxis and suggest a role for this adaptor in the control of B-cell homing.

Purpose
The abuse of cocaine and its derivatives presents a likely risk factor for injury. Trauma incurred by cocaine and derivative abusers may be more severe than that incurred by non-users.
...Objectives
To ascertain the presence of cocaine and its derivatives in trauma patients and to correlate RTS (Revised Trauma Score) and ISS (Injury Severity Score) with the presence of cocaine and its derivatives in blood and urine samples.
Methods
All trauma victims treated in an emergency unit between November 11, 2012 and September 15, 2013 were included in the study. Blood and urine samples were collected on admission to hospital. RTS and ISS scores were then compared with the presence or absence of cocaine and its derivatives in the samples. The associations between RTS < 7.84 and ISS > 16 and the independent variables were evaluated by the gross odds ratio values, determined by univariate logistic regression. Multivariate analysis was performed using multivariate logistic regression.
Results
Of 453 patients (83.7% male) included in the study, 28.6% presented ISS > 16 and 33.6% presented RTS < 7.84. A total of 435 samples were collected, and 86 (19.8%) provided positive samples for cocaine, 48 (11%) for crack and 69 (15.9%) for cocaethylene. Compared to other patients, drug users showed a greater probability of RTS < 7.84 (2.18 times greater) and a greater probability of ISS > 16 (1.76 times greater).
Conclusion
For the trauma patients included in our study, the use of cocaine and its derivatives was shown to be associated with more severe traumas, as demonstrated by their RTS and ISS scores.

...data set of 2006-2007 using a missing-mass event selection technique. The asymmetry amplitudes extracted from this data set are more precise than those extracted from the earlier data set of 1996-2005 previously analysed in the same manner by H

Exclusive ρ0-meson electroproduction is studied by the HERMES experiment, using the 27.6 GeV longitudinally polarized electron/positron beam of HERA and a transversely polarized hydrogen target, in ...the kinematic region 1.0 GeV2 < Q2 < 7.0 GeV2, 3.0 GeV < W < 6.3 GeV, and –t' < 0.4 GeV2. Using an unbinned maximum-likelihood method, 25 parameters are extracted. These determine the real and imaginary parts of the ratios of several helicity amplitudes describing ρ0-meson production by a virtual photon. The denominator of those ratios is the dominant amplitude, the nucleon-helicity-non-flip amplitude F01/201/2, which describes the production of a longitudinal ρ0-meson by a longitudinal virtual photon. The ratios of nucleon-helicity-non-flip amplitudes are found to be in good agreement with those from the previous HERMES analysis. The transverse target polarization allows for the first time the extraction of ratios of a number of nucleon-helicity-flip amplitudes to F01/201/2. Results obtained in a handbag approach based on generalized parton distributions taking into account the contribution from pion exchange are found to be in good agreement with these ratios. Within the model, the data favor a positive sign for the π - ρ transition form factor. By also exploiting the longitudinal beam polarization, a total of 71 ρ0 spin-density matrix elements is determined from the extracted 25 parameters, in contrast to only 53 elements as directly determined in earlier analyses.
