Osim što je slavni engleski pjesnik, John Keats (1795. – 1821.) bio je i student medicine na londonskom sveučilištu. Fotografskim putopisom njegova medicinskog života želimo odati počast ovome ...svestranom čovjeku u povodu dvjestote obljetnice njegove smrti. Ovaj članak, u suradnji s projektom Himetop – topografska baza podataka povijesti medicine (eng. Himetop – The History of Medicine Topographical Database) pokazuje važnost materijalne kulture prateći objekte i mjesta na kojima je pjesnik živio, studirao, radio i prerano umro. Ovo fotografsko putovanje počinje u Londonu, njegovu rodnome mjestu, i nastavlja put kroz mjesta njegova djetinjstva i mladosti – škola u Enfieldu, prebivalište na broju 8 Ulice St. Thomas, Ujedinjene bolnice itd. Nakon što je odustao od medicine kako bi se posvetio poeziji, putopis se nastavlja u Hampsteadu i vodi do Rima gdje je John Keats, zbog tuberkuloze, proveo posljednje mjesece svoga života. Putovanje završava na protestantskom groblju u Rimu gdje je pokopan okružen travom i cvijećem. Materijalne uspomene koje je ostavio, osim što čuvaju uspomenu na njega, imaju značajnu obrazovnu i inspirativnu ulogu za sve, a posebice za ljude koji se bave književnošću i studente medicine.

John Keats (1795-1821), besides being the famous English poet, was a student of medicine at the United Hospitals in London. On the occasion of the bicentenary of his death, we would like to pay ...tribute to this versatile figure with a photographic itinerary of his medical life. This article, in connection with the project “Himetop – The History of Medicine Topographical Database”, retraces objects and places where the poet lived, studied, worked, and prematurely died, showing the importance of material culture. The photographic journey starts in London with the birthplace of the poet and continues through the places of his infancy and youth, the school in Enfield, the lodgings at 8 St. Thomas Street, the United Hospitals, etc. After giving up medicine to devote to poetry, the itinerary proceeds in the Hampstead and, as the ultimate destination, in Rome, where John Keats spent his last months of life due to tuberculosis. To conclude the path at the Protestant Cemetery in Rome, where he was buried, surrounded by grass and flowers. The material memories left by John Keats, as well as preserving his memory, take on a significant educational and inspirational role for everybody and, in particular, literary people and medical students.

This study aims to assess chronic maxillary sinusitis in an osteoarchaeological sample from the medieval rural site of Pieve di Pava (central Italy), to investigate triggers responsible for sinus ...inflammation, and to compare prevalence rates with coeval European rural sites.
The analysis focused on 145 10th–12th-century adults with at least one preserved maxillary sinus.
Sinusitis-related lesions were observed macroscopically and microscopically. Alveolar pathologies of the maxillary posterior dentition were recorded to investigate the impact of odontogenic sinusitis.
Maxillary sinusitis was observed in 23.4% of the individuals (n = 34), with similar frequencies in both sexes and bilateral sinusitis appearing more frequently than unilateral sinusitis. An association of alveolar lesions with sinusitis was found in 38.2% of cases.
Compared to coeval rural sites in Northern Europe, Pieve di Pava shows the lowest prevalence of maxillary sinusitis, likely reflecting a greater amount of time spent outdoors. Despite the small size of the sample, odontogenic sinusitis cannot be ruled out.
This is the first Italian study to investigate maxillary sinusitis and to focus on the Mediterranean area, contributing to the understanding of this condition as a health indicator in ancient populations.
Research limitations include preservation issues affecting the number of observable sinuses, the non-homogenous age distribution of the sample, and the impact of inclusion and methodological criteria on the comparability of results.
Further investigations into odontogenic sinusitis and the microscopic examination of dental calculus may provide new data on the pathogenesis of sinusitis.

Maternal stress during pregnancy exerts long-term effects on the mental well-being of the offspring. However, the long-term effect of prenatal exposure on the offspring's mental status is only ...partially understood. The placenta plays a vital role in connecting the maternal side to the fetus, thereby serving as an important interface between maternal exposure and fetal development. Here, we profiled the placental transcriptome of women who were pregnant during a hurricane (Superstorm Sandy), which struck New York City in 2012. The offspring were followed longitudinally and their temperament was assessed during the first 6-12 months of age. The data identified a significant correlation between a Superstorm Sandy stress factor score and infant temperament. Further, analysis of the placental transcriptomes identified an enrichment of functional pathways related to inflammation, extracellular matrix integrity and sensory perception in the specimen from those infants with "Slow-to-Warm-up" temperament during the first year of life. Together, these findings provide initial evidence that maternal exposure to climate-related disasters results in altered placental transcriptome, which may be related to long-term emotional and behavioral consequences in children.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between insulin-resistance and fasting levels of ghrelin and PYY in Wistar rats.
A total of 25 male Wistar rats, weighing 200-300 g, was ...included in this study. The animals were maintained in cages with a 12/12h light-dark cycle and fed standard chow and water ad libitum. After 12-h overnight fasting, ghrelin, PYY, insulin and glucose values were determined. Insulin resistance was assessed by means of the HOMA-IR, which was ranked and the median was used as a cut-off value to categorize insulin-resistance. HOMA-IR values equal and above 2.62 were considered insulin-resistant (IR) while values below 2.62 were considered insulin sensitive (IS). Differences between means were determined using the Student t-test. Multiple regression and Pearson's correlation test were used to evaluate the association between variables.
HOMA-IR median IQ range values for IS and IR groups were, respectively, 1.56 (0.89 - 2.16) vs. 4.06 (3.50 - 4.61); p < 0.001. The IR group presented increased levels of fasting ghrelin, PYY and insulin respectively: 50.35 (25.99 - 74.71) pg/mL vs. 12.33 (8.77 - 15.89) pg/mL; p = 0.001; 54.38 (37.50 - 71.26) pg/mL vs. 33.17 (22.34 - 43.99) pg/mL; p = 0.016; 18.04 (14.48 - 21.60) uU/mL vs. 7.09 (4.83 - 9.35) uU/mL; p = 0.001. Ghrelin, but not PYY, correlated linearly and positively with HOMA-IR: ghrelin vs. HOMA-IR (r = 0.52; p = 0.008), and PYY vs. HOMA-IR (r = 0.22; p = 0.200). This correlation was independent of body weight.
Fasting ghrelin and PYY serum levels are increased in lean, relatively insulin resistant Wistar rats, and this increase is independent of weight.
