The article aims to highlight the parallels between two passages of Virgil's Aeneid: the verbal attack of Numanus Remulus to the Trojans (9,598-620) and the encouraging speech of Tarcone to the ...Etruscans (11.732-740). The author’s aim is to demonstrate through the philological analysis that Virgil has put in parallel the stereotypical representation of the Trojans and the Etruscans, in order to attribute to both peoples similar tendencies: abandonment to amorous adventures and dances, the fear of looking like women, and the courageous reaction of the two leaders, respectively of Ascanio and Tarcone.
The paper presents fresh reflections on the role played by Etruscans and Trojans in the dramaturgy of Virgil’s Aeneid, seeking to define the civilisational values common to the two peoples – the ...peoples that were to form the foundations of a nascent Roman Empire both in Augustus’ political programme and in Virgil’s literary concept. Foregrounded is the thesis that Virgil’s conception and structure of the Aeneid juxtapose the historical fate of the Etruscans with the myth of the Trojans: both peoples are the bearers of new civilisational values, which are manifested in military fortitudo, in the monarchic constitution of the empire, and in religious pietas.
The aim of this paper is to apply an ecocritical approach to the analysis of selected literary passages by Slovene minority authors from Italy. Drawing from ecocritical discourse, the author presents ...a diverse conception of living space before delving into the analysis of selected passages, through which she aims to demonstrate that, in the case of minority literary authors, environmental issues intertwine with questions of identity, as threats to the environment as a living space are closely associated with threats to the ethnic community. This is particularly evident in the case of literary authors from Beneška Slovenia. The author concludes her views with an analysis of literary works by the youngest Slovene authors from Italy, who notably engage with ecological themes extending beyond the confines of the living space of the Slovene minority in Italy to address the global ecological crisis.
The article explores the choice of language code among Slovene writers in Italy. During the last decade, there has been a shift in the choice of language, just like among Slovenes in Austrian ...Carinthia, as some writers choose to write either in their second language or language of the environment or opt for bilingual or translingual writing. In the article, the author connects this phenomenon with psycholinguistic theories on the emotional aspects of language code choice, proving that there are different levels of emotional experience of language, which of course is influenced by very different (both internal and external) factors. Since there are many responses to the literary multilingual phenomenon and because the authors themselves justify their choice in various forms, the article attempts to frame and explain it based on the findings of the psychology of multilingual speakers on the example of Slovene writers in Italy.
