This study aimed to explore the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) among patients in Guangzhou city, South China, and to identify susceptible patient populations and analyze the causes of ...infection differences.
From May 2020 to May 2022, a total of 637 sera were collected from patients, and 205 sera were collected from health participants as health control. All sera were examined by colloidal gold kits to detect the positivity of antibodies against T. gondii. And the positivity of antibodies in sera was confirmed with ARCHITECT i2000SR system.
The prevalence of T. gondii infection in patients was 7.06% (45/637), which was lower than the prevalence in health participants 4.88% (10/205). Among patients, 34 (5.34%) were positive only for IgG, 10 (1.57%) were only for IgM, and 1 (0.16%) was positive for both IgG and IgM. There was a significant difference in prevalence between male and female patients, but not among different age groups or diseases groups. The prevalence of T. gondii infection in diseases groups varied. The prevalence was relatively high in patients with the disorders of thyroid gland and the malignant neoplasms of digestive organs, which suggests that caution should be taken to avoid T. gondii infection in these patients. Surprisingly, the prevalence was quite low in diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBC) patients. This may be due to the overexpression of TNF-α in tumor tissues of DLBC patients and the higher protein level of TNF-α in sera of DLBC patients.
This study provides a systematic exploration of the prevalence of T. gondii infection in patients in a tertiary hospital. Our data contributes to a better understanding of the epidemic investigation of T. gondii among patients in South China, which can help the prevention and treatment of the disease caused by T. gondii infection.
Adenylate kinase 2 (AK2) is a phosphotransferase that catalyzes the reversible reaction 2ADP(GDP) ↔ ATP(GTP) + AMP and influences cellular energy homeostasis. However, the role of AK2 in regulating ...cell proliferation remains unclear because AK2 has been reported to be involved in either cell proliferation or cell apoptosis in different cell types of various organisms.
This study reports AK2 promotion of cell proliferation using the lepidopteran insect Helicoverpa armigera and its epidermal cell line HaEpi as models. Western blot analysis indicates that AK2 constitutively expresses in various tissues during larval development. Immunocytochemistry analysis indicates that AK2 localizes in the mitochondria. The recombinant expressed AK2 in E. coli promotes cell growth and viability of HaEpi cell line by 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. AK2 knockdown in larvae by RNA interference causes larval growth defects, including body weight decrease and development delay. AK2 knockdown in larvae also decreases the number of circulating haemocytes. The mechanism for such effects might be the suppression of gene transcription involved in insect development caused by AK2 knockdown.
These results show that AK2 regulates cell growth, viability, and proliferation in insect growth and development.

The clinical information of blood culture patients in the hematology department of our hospital from January 2016 to December 2021 was reviewed. They were divided into transplantation group and non-transplantation group according to whether they had undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The types of pathogens and their drug resistance were analyzed.

The conformational conversion of the host can be achieved by binding a suitable guest. The binding performance of such adaptable receptors may have significant implications for the molecular recognition processes occurring in natural settings.

AIM To investigate the role of nuclear division cycle(NDC)80in human hepatocellular carcinogenesis.METHODS NDC80 gene expression was analyzed by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain ...reaction in 47paired hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and adjacent tissues.The HCC cell line SMMC-7721 was transfected with lentivirus to silence endogenous NDC80 gene expression,which was confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting.The effects of NDC80silencing on SMMC-7721 cell proliferation were evaluated by Cellomics Array Scan VTI imaging.Cell cycle analysis and apoptosis were detected with flow cytometry.Colony formation was assessed by fluorescence microscopy.RESULTS NDC80 expression levels in HCC tissues were significantly higher than those in the adjacent tissues.Functional studies demonstrated that NDC80 silencing significantly reduced SMMC-7721 cell proliferation and colony formation.Knockdown of NDC80 resulted in increased apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at S-phase.NDC80 contributed to HCC progression by reducing apoptosis and overcoming cell cycle arrest. CONCLUSION Elevated expression of NDC80 may play a role in promoting the development of HCC.
