This article focuses on climate and food inequalities while highlighting food sovereignty responses. It provides an analysis of climate inequalities ramifying through the world today. At the same ...time, food inequality is conceptually clarified as a counter approach to food security. It is argued that food inequality is consistent with the case for food sovereignty. Moreover, the combination of climate and food inequalities also highlight the complexity of climate crises and the challenges they pose for food regimes. The article further highlights the emergence of the food sovereignty response and systemic alternative. Taking this further is a case study of the transformative politics of the South African Food Sovereignty Campaign and its constitutive approach to various forms of power from below.

Sepsis is the third leading cause of death in the United States, with 270,000 mortalities annually; therefore, prompt recognition coupled with early treatment can save lives. Better compliance with ...the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, SEP-1 bundle improves patient safety and save lives. New hospitals are challenged with establishing and promoting a culture of patient safety with prompt recognition of Sepsis. Our hospital opened in June 2017, as a part of a larger health system. Our first SEP-1 scores were 54.17 %. System superior goals for 2017-2018 were greater than 73% and 77.9% respectively. Could our hospital reach the superior goal and promote a culture of patient safety simultaneously?
The Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology was used for effectiveness. Interdisciplinary multi-modal methods were implemented such as: case fall out analysis, clinical education, a bundled Sepsis Order Set, real time outcomes communication, committee participation and formation of an Interdisciplinary Work Team.
Quarter 3 2017 SEP-1 compliance was 54.17%. Promoting the bundled Sepsis Order Set increased compliance to 76.92% by Quarter 1 2018. Case fall out analysis with real time opportunities communicated to physicians coupled with clinical education with badge buddies increased compliance to 83.33% by Quarter 3 2018. Formation of the Sepsis Work Team and committee participation saw compliance increase to 87.10% in Quarter 4 2018. Continued promotion of Sepsis awareness and patient safety upsurged compliance to 89% in Quarter 2 2019 and 100% in Quarter 3 2019.
Our new hospital met and surpassed the system goal of 73% for 2017-2018, and 77.9% for 2019. Our multi-modal methods incorporating patient safety, sepsis awareness, and education are effective. The use of the Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology guided us to hard wire our culture of patient safety and reduce Sepsis mortalities.
The Covid-19 pandemic threw into stark relief the multi-dimensional threats created by neoliberal capitalism. Government measures to alleviate the crisis were largely inadequate, leaving women – in ...particular working-class women – to carry the increased burden of care work while at the same time placing themselves in direct risk as frontline workers. Emancipatory Feminism in the Time of Covid-19, the seventh volume in the Democratic Marxism series, explores how many subaltern women – working class, peasant and indigenous – challenge hegemonic neoliberal feminism through their resistance to ordinary capitalist practices and ecological extractivism. Contributors cover women’s responses in a wide range of contexts: from women leading the defence of Rojava – the Kurdish region of Syria, to approaches to anti-capitalist ecology and building food secure pathways in communities across Africa, to championing climate justice in mining affected communities and transforming gender divisions in mining labour practices in South Africa, to contesting macro-economic policies affecting the working conditions of nurses. Their practices demonstrate a feminist understanding of the current systemic crises of capitalism and patriarchal oppression. What is offered in this collection is a subaltern women’s grassroots resistance focused on advancing and enabling solidarity-based political projects, deepening democracy, building capacities and alliances to advance new feminist alternatives.

Aero Caribbean, an airplane crashed in Cuba and everyone ...on board was killed.21 Heirs of one of the passengers sued the owners (the Cuban defendants) and the manufacturer of the plane, Avions de Transport Régional (ATR), for wrongful death and negligence.22 Before the Cuban defendants were properly served, ATR moved to dismiss.23 The Northern District of California granted the motion to dismiss and entered a judgment with respect to ATR, but not with respect to the unserved Cuban defendants.24 The plaintiffs appealed.25 "Therefore, at the time plaintiffs filed their notice of appeal with the Ninth Circuit, their claims against the Cuban defendants remained pending before the district court. Characterizing the plaintiffs' theory of causation as "sheer speculation," the court granted summary judgment in favor of the United States.342 The court also granted summary judg- ment in favor of Agusta, holding that the pilots followed the controller's instructions of ATC, kept the Grumman in sight as instructed, maintained appropriate separation, and complied with all pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations.343 Collaterally, the Turturro case also addresses the FAA's duty to preserve radar data in the context of the plaintiffs' claim for the spoliation of evidence.344 As a non-radar facility, the PNE Tower had no radar data to produce.345 However, the plaintiffs' expert expected that Philadelphia International Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) would have coverage of PNE and requested its radar data pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.346 By the time the request was submitted, 105 days after the accident, the data had been overwritten subject to the facility's standard forty-five day retention policy.347 The plaintiffs alleged that the FAA was aware of its culpability imme- diately after the accident, but nevertheless destroyed radar evidence that would enable the plaintiffs to prove their claims.348 In response, the United States referred the court to the FAA's document retention policy which, inter alia, provides that "an air traffic facility that 'provided no direct or indirect air traffic services to the aircraft in question' must retain documentation such as radar data only 'when requested by specific persons.
AIM To explore the relationship between such a construct and an existing continence score.METHODS A retrospective study of incontinent patients who underwent anal physiology(AP) was performed. AP ...results and Cleveland Clinic Continence Scores(CCCS) were extracted. An anal physiology score(APS) was developed using maximum resting pressures(MRP), anal canal length(ACL), internal and external sphincter defects and pudendal terminal motor latency. Univariate associations between each variable, APS and CCCS were assessed. Multiple regression analyses were performed.RESULTS Of 508(419 women) patients, 311 had both APS and CCCS measured. Average MRP was 51 mm Hg(SD23.2 mm Hg) for men and 39 mm Hg(19.2 mm Hg) for women. Functional ACL was 1.7 cm for men and 0.7 cm for women. Univariate analyses demonstrated significant associations between CCCS and MRP(P = 0.0002), ACL(P = 0.0006) and pudendal neuropathy(P < 0.0001). The association between APS and CCCS was significant(P < 0.0001) but accounted for only 9.2% of the variability in CCCS. Multiple regression showed that the variables most useful in predicting CCCS were external sphincter defect, pudendal neuropathy and previous pelvic surgery, but only improving the scores predictive ability to 12.5%.CONCLUSION This study shows that the ability of AP tests to predict continence scores improves when considered collectively, but that a constructed summation model before and after multiple regression is poor at predicting the variability in continence scores.

The study ...aims to ask librarians about their attitudes to the retail and professional models of service and what they did not like about the retail model.Design methodology approach - Data were drawn from focus groups consisting of experienced reference librarians.Findings - Results suggest that librarians behave differently while front-stage and backstage. This research argues that food sovereignty offers a plausible ...alternative to the current unjust, unsafe and unsustainable food system in South Africa. In addition, it argues that food sovereignty provides important solutions to hunger and the brutalities of the food system which current policies and interventions fail to address. Food sovereignty is an ideal that originated amongst a peasant movement in the global South. This ideal and framework to address hunger has since evolved and spread to international movements, and is making great strides in advocating for change in the current broken food system. Food sovereignty has lately been adapted in South Africa as a grassroots led initiative promoted by the nascent South African Food Sovereignty Campaign (SAFSC). This research uses the SAFSC as a case study to explore food sovereignty alternatives in South Africa. It does this by using in-depth interviews and participant observation in the campaign to draw out understandings of food sovereignty particular to South African activists. It further assesses tactics and strategies the SAFSC uses, and compares these to current state, business and civil society organisations’ solutions to show how a more grassroots-led approach, using the food sovereignty framework, has the potential to address the roots of hunger. These roots of hunger are shown to be at the corporate food regime level, as has been indicated by the literature and confirmed in this research. As food sovereignty is pursued by various actors in South Africa it provides important examples of approaches by which power in the food system can be reclaimed to benefit the majority instead of a few elites, as is currently the case.
