Ernest Hemingway was a frequent critic of the Italian Fascism, “from the very beginning... a thorn in the side of the inflated Fascist image” (John P. Diggins). This lingering antipathy reached its ...apotheosis in what might seem an insignificant controversy involving a short-lived literary journal called the New Review and its editor, Samuel Putnam.
