The BLEMAB European project (BLast furnace stack density Estimation through online Muon ABsorption measurements), evolution of the previous MuBlast European project, is designed to investigate in ...detail the capability of muon radiography techniques applied to the imaging of a blast furnace's inner zone. In particular, the geometry and size of the so called cohesive zone, i.e. the spatial zone where the slowly downward moving material begins to soften and melt, that plays an important role in the performance of the blast furnace itself. Thanks to the high penetration power of the natural cosmic ray muon radiation, muon transmission radiography represents an appropriate non-invasive methodology for imaging large high-density structures such as blast furnaces, whose linear size can be up to a few tens of meters. A state-of-the-art muon tracking system, whose design profits from the long experience of our collaboration in this field, is currently under development and will be installed in 2022 at a blast furnace on the ArcelorMittal site in Bremen (Germany) for many months. Collected data will be exploited to monitor temporal variations of the average density distribution inside the furnace. Muon radiography results will also be compared with measurements obtained through an enhanced multipoint probe and standard blast furnace models.

A proposal for a pixel-based Level 1 trigger for the Super-LHC is presented. The trigger is based on fast track reconstruction using the full pixel granularity exploiting a readout which connects ...different layers in specific trigger towers. The trigger will implement the current CMS high level trigger functionality in a novel concept of intelligent detector. A possible layout is discussed and implications on data links are evaluated.

An important tool for the discovery of new physics at LHC is the design of a low level trigger with an high power of background rejection. The contribution of pixel detector to the lowest level ...trigger at CMS is studied focusing on low-energy jet identification, matching the information from calorimeters and pixel detector. In addition, primary vertex algorithms are investigated. The performances are evaluated in terms of, respectively, QCD rejection and multihadronic jets final states efficiency.

ALEPH and SLD. An improved sensitivity to distinguish between fragmentation
model and more accurate measurements of the ...mean b-hadron scaled energy have
been obtained.
Charginos and neutralinos are searched for in the data collected by the ALEPH experiment at LEP for centre-of-mass energies up to 209 GeV. The negative result of these searches is combined with those ...from searches for sleptons and Higgs bosons to derive an absolute lower limit of 43.1 GeV/c2 on the mass of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), assumed to be the lightest neutralino. This limit is obtained in the framework of the MSSM with R-parity conservation and with gaugino and sfermion mass unification at the GUT scale and assuming no mixing in the stau sector. The LSP limit degrades only slightly to 42.4 GeV/c2 if stau mixing is considered. Within the more constrained framework of minimal supergravity, the limit is 50 GeV/c2.

2. This cross section limit implies, assuming the MSSM, a lower limit of 67 (69) GeV/
c
2 on the mass of right- (left-) handed long-lived scalar taus or scalar muons and of 86 GeV/
c
2 on the mass of long-lived charginos.
