Searches for heavy neutral lepton production in K+ → e+N and K+ → μ+N decays using the data set collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016-18 are presented. Upper limits on the elements of the ...extended neutrino mixing matrix |Ue4|2 and |Uμ4|2 are established at the levels of 10−9 and 10−8, respectively, improving on the earlier searches for heavy neutral lepton production and decays in the kinematically accessible mass range.
The SHR and SLA16 inbred strains present behavioral differences in anxiety/emotionality that could be under the influence of dopaminergic neurotransmission. In order to investigate the role of D2 ...receptors in modulating such differences, an agonist (quinpirole) and an antagonist (haloperidol) of this receptor were administered, either via systemic injection (IP), or microinjected into the ventral area of the hippocampus (vHIP). Quinpirole and haloperidol IP decreased locomotor activity, only in SLA16 rats in the open-field (OF), and in both strains in the elevated plus-maze (EPM). Quinpirole also increased the preference for the aversive areas of the EPM. Quinpirole vHIP decreased locomotor activity in both strains. Haloperidol vHIP did not elicit behavioural changes and no differences in the levels of D2 receptors and of dopamine transporter in the hippocampus were found. Results indicate that systemic activation/blocking of D2 receptors caused a strain-dependent hypolocomotion, whereas activation of D2 receptors in the vHIP, but not D2 receptor antagonism, regardless of dose, decreased general locomotor activity in the two strains. Therefore, we suggest that genomic differences in the chromosome 4 can influence the locomotor activity regulated by the D2 dopaminergic receptor, especially in the vHIP.
In this paper, a multi-objective optimisation procedure, based on the adoption of genetic algorithms, is presented. The optimal configuration with minimum weight and minimum cost of a damage ...resistant stiffened, composite panel with buckling constraints has been determined. The numerical procedure is based on an in-house optimisation code used in conjunction with the ANSYS FEM code. The presence of both continuous and high sensitivity discrete design variables, suggested for GA the adoption of a special bit-masking data structure able to increase the overall computational efficiency. Optimal configurations of the stiffened panel, are finally analysed and discussed focusing on the influence of the damage resistance constraint on the overall costs.
Visceral artery aneurysms are very rare and aneurysms of the celiac trunk are the rarest ones: they are in most cases asymptomatic and their detection is frequently incidental. In this article we ...report the case of a man affected by severe abdominal pain with a huge aneurysm of the celiac trunk, first successfully treated with coil embolization, but, after 10 months, another endovascular embolization was required for deployment of the metallic coils previously released, ahead into the fund of the sac with recanalization of the aneurysm. A second endovascular treatment was performed with other coils and Amplatzer-Plug. The high risk of rupture makes treatment of such aneurysms mandatory and surgery is still considered the gold standard therapy of VAA, but, due to its high morbidity and mortality risks, in the last years, it has been widely replaced by endovascular embolization. An effective endovascular embolization requires not only the complete filling of the aneurysmal sac, but also the complete vascular exclusion of its in-flow and out-flow tracts, to reduce the risk of its anterograde or retrograde reperfusion.
Iliopsoas bursitis is characterized by distension of the iliopsoas muscle bursa due to synovial fluid and/or hypertrophic synovium. Hip disease is usually associated with it, however, isolated ...bursitis is also present. Clinically Diagnosing iliopsoas bursitis can be difficult, and imaging is usually required to differentiate iliopsoas bursitis from other inguinal masses such as lymphadenopathy, hernias, and tumors. We present the case of a 45-year-old athletic patient who underwent diagnostic examination for recurrent right hip pain and a recent development (last 3 months) of a bulky right inguinal mass.

Accessory spleens are often encountered in radiologic studies and they are not usually associated with symptoms. They could arise from autotransplantation of splenic tissue after splenic trauma or ...splenectomy (splenosis) 1. In this case we describe a woman treated for splenectomy 20 years before and subsequently for adhesions, that suffered sudden left upper abdominal quadrant pain, weakness, and pale color. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed free spilling in the abdomen and venous bleeding of a big accessory spleen; thus the patient underwent transcatheter arterial embolization with coils. Due to the 2 previous surgical operations in the splenic loggia, endovascular treatment compared to "open surgery" was the best choice in this case because of determined less complications, a shorter period of hospitalization, and a reduction of health cost.
Face-based recognition systems have been increasingly used in many different applications in today's society, starting from surveillance and access control to the authentication for banking ...activities. Therefore, in the last few years an increasing interest in the performance characterization and improvement of such systems can be found in the scientific community. Most of the methodologies for testing the performance of such systems are based on the evaluation of recognition reliability indexes that are generally related to the probability of a false positive and/or of a false negative.
