The primary (1°) recycled polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) has been widely explored for various sensing applications. But yet little has been testified on the 3D printing of 1° recycled PVDF-based ...flexible and wearable passive sensors for body-centric communication (BCC). This study presents the fabrication of 1° recycled PVDF-based flexible and wearable sensors prepared by fused filament fabrication for BCC. For the fabrication of 3D printed passive sensors, slots, and defected ground structure was prepared for miniaturization. The results suggest that 84.88% miniaturization in the area was achieved at 2.45 GHz for Bluetooth communication with a frequency shift of 51%. The simulated reflection coefficient (

) was observed in agreement with the experimental data. Further, the validation shows that the proposed sensor may be used for bending radius up to 50 mm representing the built-up of a human wrist. Finally, the specific absorption rate of 0.898 W/kg ensures that the sensor may be deployed in BCC.
Background & objectives: Studies assessing the spatial and temporal association of ambient air pollution with emergency room visits of patients having acute respiratory symptoms in Delhi are lacking. ...Therefore, the present study explored the relationship between spatio-temporal variation of particulate matter (PM)2.5 concentrations and air quality index (AQI) with emergency room (ER) visits of patients having acute respiratory symptoms in Delhi using the geographic information system (GIS) approach.
Methods: The daily number of ER visits of patients having acute respiratory symptoms (less than or equal to two weeks) was recorded from the ER of four hospitals of Delhi from March 2018 to February 2019. Daily outdoor PM2.5 concentrations and air quality index (AQI) were obtained from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. Spatial distribution of patients with acute respiratory symptoms visiting ER, PM2.5 concentrations and AQI were mapped for three seasons of Delhi using ArcGIS software.
Results: Of the 70,594 patients screened from ER, 18,063 eligible patients were enrolled in the study. Winter days had poor AQI compared to moderate and satisfactory AQI during summer and monsoon days, respectively. None of the days reported good AQI (<50). During winters, an increase in acute respiratory ER visits of patients was associated with higher PM2.5 concentrations in the highly polluted northwest region of Delhi. In contrast, a lower number of acute respiratory ER visits of patients were seen from the 'moderately polluted' south-west region of Delhi with relatively lower PM2.5 concentrations.
Interpretation & conclusions: Acute respiratory ER visits of patients were related to regional PM2.5 concentrations and AQI that differed during the three seasons of Delhi. The present study provides support for identifying the hotspots and implementation of focused, intensive decentralized strategies to control ambient air pollution in worst-affected areas, in addition to the general city-wise strategies.
Background & objectives: Screening of individuals for early detection and identification of undiagnosed diabetes can help in reducing the burden of diabetic complications. This study aimed to ...evaluate the performance of Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF)-Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) to screen for undiagnosed type 2 diabetes in a large representative population in India.
Methods: Data were acquired from the Indian Council of Medical Research-INdia DIABetes (ICMR-INDIAB) study, a large national survey that included both urban and rural populations from 30 states/union territories in India. Stratified multistage design was followed to obtain a sample of 113,043 individuals (94.2% response rate). MDRF-IDRS used four simple parameters, viz. age, waist circumference, family history of diabetes and physical activity to detect undiagnosed diabetes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) with area under the curve (AUC) was used to assess the performance of MDRF-IDRS.
Results: We identified that 32.4, 52.7 and 14.9 per cent of the general population were under high-, moderate- and low-risk category of diabetes. Among the newly diagnosed individuals with diabetes diagnosed by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), 60.2, 35.9 and 3.9 per cent were identified under high-, moderate- and low-risk categories of IDRS. The ROC-AUC for the identification of diabetes was 0.697 (95% confidence interval: 0.684-0.709) for urban population and 0.694 (0.684-0.704) for rural, as well as 0.693 (0.682-0.705) for males and 0.707 (0.697-0.718) for females. MDRF-IDRS performed well when the population were sub-categorized by state or by regions.
Interpretation & conclusions: Performance of MDRF-IDRS is evaluated across the nation and is found to be suitable for easy and effective screening of diabetes in Asian Indians.
Background: There are wide variations reported in the prevalence rates of common neurological disorders in India leading to huge treatment gap. There is no comprehensive systematic review reporting ...prevalence of common neurological conditions affecting Indians which is essential for developing and aligning health services to meet patient care.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of prevalence of epilepsy, dementia, headache, and Parkinson's disease (PD) in India from 1980 to 2019.
Methods and Materials: We performed a bibliographic systematic search in PubMed and Google Scholar along with manual search for peer-reviewed cross-sectional studies and community-based surveys reporting prevalence of epilepsy, dementia, headache, and PD in India from January 1980 to July 2019. Meta-analysis was performed adopting a random-effects model using "Metafor" package in R.
Results: The systematic review and meta-analysis included 50 studies epilepsy (n = 22), dementia (n = 19), headache (n = 6), and PD (n = 3) including a total of 179,1541 participants of which 5,890 were diagnosed with epilepsy, 1,843 with dementia, 914 with headache, and 121 were diagnosed with PD. The pooled prevalence of epilepsy was 4.7 per 1,000 population (95% CI: 3.8-5.6) with high heterogeneity (P < 0.01, I2 = 98%). The prevalence of dementia was found to be 33.7 per 1,000 population (95% CI: 19.4-49.8) (P = 0, I2 = 100%). The pooled prevalence of headache and PD were found to be 438.8 per 1,000 population (95% CI: 287.6-602.3) (P < 0.0001, I2 = 97.99%), and 0.8 per 1,000 population (95%CI: 0.4-1.3) (P < 0.01, I2 = 95%), respectively.
Conclusions: The findings could be used for appropriate policy measures and targeted treatments for addressing these conditions.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-India Diabetes (INDIAB) study is a cross-sectional, population-based survey of adults aged 20 years or older in all 30 states and union territories of India. We used a stratified multistage sampling design, sampling states in a phased manner, and selected villages in rural areas and census enumeration blocks in urban areas. We used a three-level stratification method on the basis of geography, population size, and socioeconomic status for each state. For the outcome assessment, good glycaemic control was defined as HbA
of less than 7·0% (A), blood pressure control was defined as less than 140/90 mm Hg (B), and the LDL cholesterol target was defined as less than 100 mg/dL (C). ABC control was defined as the proportion of individuals meeting glycaemic, blood pressure, and LDL cholesterol targets together. We also performed multiple logistic regression to assess the factors influencing achievement of diabetes treatment targets.
Between Oct 18, 2008, and Dec 17, 2020, 113 043 individuals (33 537 from urban areas and 79 506 from rural areas) participated in the ICMR-INDIAB study. For this analysis, 5789 adults (2633 in urban areas and 3156 in rural areas) with self-reported diabetes were included in the study population. The median age was 56·1 years (IQR 55·7-56·5). Overall, 1748 (weighted proportion 36·3%, 95% CI 34·7-37·9) of 4834 people with diabetes achieved good glycaemic control, 2819 (weighted proportion 48·8%, 47·2-50·3) of 5698 achieved blood pressure control, and 2043 (weighted proportion 41·5%, 39·9-43·1) of 4886 achieved good LDL cholesterol control. Only 419 (weighted proportion 7·7%) of 5297 individuals with self-reported diabetes achieved all three ABC targets, with significant heterogeneity between regions and states. Higher education, male sex, rural residence, and shorter duration of diabetes (<10 years) were associated with better achievement of combined ABC targets. Only 951 (weighted proportion 16·7%) of the study population and 227 (weighted proportion 36·9%) of those on insulin reported using self-monitoring of blood glucose.
Achievement of treatment targets and adoption of healthy behaviours remains suboptimal in India. Our results can help governments to adopt policies that prioritise improvement of diabetes care delivery and surveillance in India.

The present study explored the association between daily ambient air pollution and daily emergency room (ER) visits due to acute respiratory symptoms in children of Delhi. ) and weather variables were provided by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. K-means clustering with time-series approach and multi-pollutant generalized additive models with Poisson link function was used to estimate the 0–6-day lagged change in daily ER visits with the change in multiple pollutants levels. Out of 1,32,029 children screened, 19,120 eligible children having acute respiratory symptoms for ≤2 weeks and residing in Delhi for the past 4 weeks were enrolled. There was a 29% and 21% increase in ERVs among children on high and moderate level pollution cluster days, respectively, compared to low pollution cluster days on the same day and previous 1–6 days of exposure to air pollutants. Abstract Background: Skin conditions form a major bulk of diseases in the community. With a disproportionately low number of dermatologists in the country, and a greatly unequal distribution between ...urban versus rural areas, ineffective treatment and mismanagement of skin conditions are, however, commonplace. Objective: To develop standard treatment workflows (STWs) for certain skin diseases for use by clinicians at primary, secondary, and tertiary care centers. Methodology: Seven members, from various academic institutes across the country, were selected for formulation of the STWs. They were provided logistic and technical support by the ICMR, Department of Health Research (DHR), and WHO India office. Multiple rounds of online and physical discussions were performed to identify topics that would be most useful in the management of skin diseases for the health care personnel (HCP) and subsequently to frame the STW content. Results: The selected diseases included acne and rosacea, alopecia, bacterial skin infections, cutaneous adverse drug reactions, dermatophytosis, eczema/dermatitis, immunobullous dermatoses, psoriasis, scabies, varicella and herpes, vitiligo, and urticaria. There was one separate module on rational use of topical corticosteroids. The STWs for these conditions have been finalised and are available as physical posters in health centers and can also be accessed online and through mobile applications. Conclusion: Thirteen STW modules have been prepared with a view to optimize management of skin diseases at various levels of health care system of the country.
Dramatic advancement has been made in the management of children with hepatoblastoma (HB) over the past 3 decades owing to the improvement in diagnostic imaging, new chemotherapeutic agents, better ...surgical care and availability of liver transplantation. These advances are the end results of contributions from 4 major study groups across the globe including International Society of Pediatric Oncology – Liver Tumor Strategy Group (SIOPEL), Children’s Oncology Group (COG), German Pediatric Hematology Oncology Group (GPOH) and Japanese Pediatric Liver Tumor Study Group (JPLT). The current manuscript is written with the objective of developing a consensus guideline for practitioners at a National level. Based on literature and personal experience over last 3 decades, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Expert group has made recommendations for management of children with HB in resource-challenged nations including India.
