A series of 48 provenance trials of teak (Tectona grandis) were established by a number of countries during 1973-1976 as an international effort, initiated by the FAO Panel of Experts on Forest ...Genetic Resources, and co-ordinated by the Danida Forest Seed Centre. Eight trials have been assessed twice (around age 9, and again at age 17 years), as a combined effort between trial host countries and the Danida Forest Seed Centre. Results are compared from the 2 evaluations. In addition, the impact of early flowering on stem form is also analysed. It is concluded that new information concerning bole quality especially was revealed by the second evaluation. However, the ranking of provenances in terms of productivity generally remained unchanged compared to the evaluation at age 7-9 years. Trees that did not have flowers around age 9 tended to have better axis persistence than trees with flowers at age 9. However, large variation was found and scoring of flowering at the early age was in general not found to be an effective way to estimate the later stem form.
