While user-generated short videos have become very common in tourism marketing, how they affect potential tourists' decisions has not been discussed academically. Based on the customer inspiration ...theory, this study explored the effects of different tourism short video contents on potential tourists' travel intentions, as well as the mediating effect of customer inspiration and the moderating effect of consumption orientation through three experiments. The following conclusions were drawn. (1) Tourism short videos significantly increased potential tourists' customer inspiration and travel intention; (2) The customer inspirations ("inspired-by" and "inspired-to") chain-mediated the relationship between tourism short videos and potential tourists' travel intentions; (3) Consumption orientation positively moderated the chained mediation effect above, and the chained mediation effect of tourism short videos on the travel intentions of tourists with hedonistic motivations through inspire-by and inspire-to is stronger than that of tourists with utilitarian motivations. The above findings could help expand the perspective of tourism short video research and provide suggestions for tourism business managers to apply short video content to marketing.
COVID-19 vaccination is considered the most effective and promising approach for the elimination of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic globally. Although the vaccine has been proven to be safe, as evidenced by ...the promotion of mass vaccination, new side effects, including several ocular complications that were not described during the experimental stage, are now emerging. In the present study, we report a 33-year-old Chinese man who developed probable Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease only one day after his first dose of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine, without any systemic symptoms. His medical history was unremarkable, except for hypertension. Although successfully relieved by oral prednisone, the patient progressed to the chronic stage of VKH disease with ocular depigmentation 4 months after onset. By reviewing similar cases previously reported, we discuss and summarize the common characteristics of VKH disease associated with vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, as well as the possible mechanisms behind this phenomenon. Although the causality is unclear, ophthalmologists and generalists should be aware of this possible ocular adverse effect after COVID-19 vaccination.

The microbiome is greatly significant for immune system development and homeostasis. Dysbiosis in gut microbial composition and function is linked to immune responses and the development of metabolic ...diseases, including diabetes mellitus (DM). However, skin microbiome changes in diabetic patients and their role in DM are poorly elucidated. In this review, we summarize recent findings about the association between the gut and skin microbiota and DM, highlighting their roles in the proinflammatory status of DM. Moreover, although there is evidence that the connection between the gut and skin causes the same activated innate immune response, additional studies are needed to explore the mechanism. These findings might inform future DM prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
The tremendous success of deep learning for imaging applications has resulted in numerous beneficial advances. Unfortunately, this success has also been a catalyst for malicious uses such as ...photo-realistic face swapping of parties without consent. In this study, we use deep transfer learning for face swapping detection, showing true positive rates greater than 96% with very few false alarms. Distinguished from existing methods that only provide detection accuracy, we also provide uncertainty for each prediction, which is critical for trust in the deployment of such detection systems. Moreover, we provide a comparison to human subjects. To capture human recognition performance, we build a website to collect pairwise comparisons of images from human subjects. Based on these comparisons, we infer a consensus ranking from the image perceived as most real to the image perceived as most fake. Overall, the results show the effectiveness of our method. As part of this study, we create a novel dataset that is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest swapped face dataset created using still images. This dataset will be available for academic research use per request. Our goal of this study is to inspire more research in the field of image forensics through the creation of a dataset and initial analysis.
To evaluate the secondary epiretinal membrane (ERM) response after photocoagulation in retinal vascular tumor. This retrospective interventional case series included 8 patients (8 eyes) who were ...diagnosed with retinal vascular tumor and secondary ERM. All eyes were treated with photocoagulation and underwent comprehensive ophthalmologic examinations at baseline and at each follow-up. Of the 8 eyes with retinal vascular tumor and associated ERM, 4 eyes (50%) were von Hippel and 4 eyes (50%) were vasoproliferative tumor of the retina. The mean follow-up time was 12.63 ± 14.64 (range, 4–51) months. The BCVA in the eyes at baseline was 1.16 ± 1.10 logMAR (range, HM to 20/40). ERM located in the macular region in 100% of the eyes and led to CME with a mean central foveal thickness of 497.6 ± 147.7 μm (range, 294–736 μm) at presentation. After photocoagulation, the ERM spontaneously peeled in 7 of 8 eyes (87.5%), among which one case required surgical treatment due to complicating tractional retinal detachment. After ERM peeling without complications, 6 eyes recovered normal macular structure, with an improved BCVA in 5 eyes and a stable BCVA in 1 eye. Laser photocoagulation is necessary and effective treatment for retinal vascular tumor. After laser photocoagulation, retinal vascular tumor-related ERM spontaneously released in 75% of the cases, without complication and surgical intervention.
Metasurface-based research with phase-change materials has been a prominent and rapidly developing research field that has drawn considerable attention in recent years. In this paper, we proposed a ...kind of tunable metasurface based on the simplest metal-insulator-metal structure, which can be realized by the mutual transformation of insulating and metallic states of vanadium dioxide (VO
) and can realize the functional switching of photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE), absorption and beam deflection at the same terahertz frequency. When VO
is insulating, combined with the geometric phase, the metasurface can realize PSHE. A normal incident linear polarized wave will be split into two spin-polarized reflection beams traveling in two off-normal directions. When VO
is in the metal state, the designed metasurface can be used as a wave absorber and a deflector, which will completely absorb LCP waves, while the reflected amplitude of RCP waves is 0.828 and deflects. Our design only consists of one layer of artificial structure with two materials and is easy to realize in the experiment compared with the metasurface of a multi-layer structure, which can provide new ideas for the research of tunable multifunctional metasurface.
Attention is increasingly being given to microglia-related inflammation in neovascular diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular disease. In this study, we aimed to clarify whether and how microglia affect the function of retinal microvascular endothelial cells (RMECs).
We activated microglia by Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) stimulation. After co-culturing static or activated microglia with RMECs using the Transwell system, we evaluated the function of RMECs. Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) levels in the supernatant from the lower chamber were evaluated by ELISA. Angiogenesis, migration, and proliferation of RMECs were assessed by tube formation, wound healing, and WST-1 assays. The expression levels of tight junction proteins (ZO-1 and occludin) and endothelial markers (CD31 and CD34) were examined by Western blot analysis.
We successfully established an LPS-activated microglia model and co-culture system of static or activated microglia with RMECs. In the co-culture system, we showed that microglia, especially activated microglia stimulated VEGF-A and PDGF-BB expression, enhanced angiogenesis, migration, proliferation, and permeability, and altered the phenotype of co-cultured RMECs.
Microglia, especially activated microglia, play important roles in angiogenesis and maintenance of vascular function hemostasis in the retinal microvasculature. The mechanism needs further investigation and clarification.
This article describes a patient who developed Harada disease-like uveitis after quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV4) vaccination and experienced resolution without any systemic treatment. To ...achieve this aim, a case report and a review of related literature on HPV vaccination causing uveitis were conducted. The results of this study show a diagnosis of Harada disease-like uveitis after HPV4 vaccination based on the vaccination history, clinical symptoms, and multimodal imaging. Resolution without any systemic corticosteroid treatment was observed. According to these findings, patients may develop uveitis with Harada-like features, which can be a mild and self-limiting process, after HPV4 vaccination.
Booking decision is a typical decision-making behavior in hospitality, while the neural processing of it is still unclear. To address this issue, with the help of event-related potential (ERP), this ...work uncovered the neural mechanism of the influence of two extrinsic cues, namely, brand familiarity (familiar vs. unfamiliar) and online reviews (positive vs. negative) on online hotel booking decisions. Behavioral results indicated that the booking rate under the condition of positive reviews was higher than that of negative reviews. In addition, the response time in the case of familiar brands was longer than that of unfamiliar brands. ERP results showed that the P200 amplitude of familiar brands was smaller than that of unfamiliar brands, while for the late positive potential amplitude, the opposite was the case. It is suggested that in the early stage of cognitive processing, unfamiliar brands evoke more automatic and unconscious attention while in the later stage, familiar brands attract more conscious attention. This study also found that the N400 amplitude of negative online reviews was larger than that of positive online reviews, indicating that negative stimuli can result in a larger emotional conflicts than that of positive stimuli. This study provides new insights into the neural mechanism of online booking decisions in the hospitality.
Quasi-continuous wave (QCW) laser has a very broad application in the industrial field, especially in additive manufacturing, surface treatment, laser cutting, laser cleaning, and laser drilling. ...Compared with the unidirectional fiber laser, the bidirectional output can be achieved two ports high power output with only one resonator, which can greatly reduce the industrial cost. However, there are few researches on QCW fiber lasers with bidirectional output. Here, we optimized and demonstrated a bidirectional output QCW laser with output power of 2 × 4.5 kW based on a double-clad ytterbium-doped fiber with a core/cladding diameter of 25/400 μm. The peak power at both ends reached 4515 W and 4694 W, respectively. The Raman suppression ratio at both ends of A and B is about 12 dB, and the beam quality factor M2 is about 1.37 and 1.42, respectively. The corresponding optical-to-optical efficiency is 79%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest peak power of QCW laser with near-single-mode beam quality in a bidirectional structure laser.
