By 2018, in Croatia, the agglomerations for collecting the sewage and water treatment systems are going to be constructed. All devices will be based on the mechanical-biological method of ...purification. However, the work of water treatment system produces a problem of sludge management. The paper presents the challenges of wastewater sludge handling and makes a decision on further sludge management. The hierarchical model of the decision making problem by defining the goal, criteria and alternative solutions is developed. On each level of the hierarchical model the elements of the model are compared with each other in pairs, and the preferences are expressed by using the Saaty’s scale. Moreover, the APH model compares the alternative pairs (thermal processing, deposition on agricultural land, disposal to waste repositories and composting) among each others. The intensities and weight preferences of one alternative over another are selected within the required criteria (economic, environmental, organisational and sociological).
The impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on economic growth and development has nowadays proven to be significant for almost all national economies. In this paper, a quantitative ...analysis of the impact of ICT on Croatian economic growth is performed using the input-output (IO) method. The direct and indirect effects of ICT sectors are analysed. Subsequently, simple output multipliers and simple value added multipliers are then calculated. The results indicate that there are no significant differences between the ICT multipliers for the Croatian economy in 2010 and multipliers of other sectors. The largest values of multipliers of all ICT sectors are attributed to the one of ICT service sector. Moreover, significant changes were also not observed when comparing ICT multipliers for the Croatian economy in 2004 and 2010. In addition to Croatia, multiplier analysis of ICT sectors was conducted for the group of new and long-standing European Union member states. The conclusion is that, in new member states, the implementation and usage of ICT has a lower contribution to economic growth and development.
The paper presents the development of the conceptual, mathematical and system dynamics model for the food industry wastewater purification system which removes organic matter. The food industry often ...located in places where is difficult to install large systems for water purification while small sophisticated systems are expensive. Wastewater food industry is contaminated with organic matter, phosphorus and nitrogen compounds. This paper presents model of the small, cheap and effective cleaner water. The goal of the scientific investigation is developing such a model for purification wastewater and methodology design suitable to significant behavior patterns of contamination matter. Developed conceptual model is a computer variables model uses randomly chosen values from the theoretical probability distribution of the variable applied. For the validation of the model, considering that the distributions are asymmetrical non-Gaussian distributions, a non-parametric test was applied. Methodology proposed in the paper is mostly based on the simulation modeling.
Uloga velikih skupova podataka (eng. big data) u promatranom području je značajna zbog česte pojave vremenskih serija u podacima i metode komparacije promatranih sustava post hoc analize kada rudarenje podataka nije dostupno, a posebno kada se želi prepoznati uzorak ponašanja promatranih sustava i njihovih komponenata.
The article discusses Six Sigma Methodology as business philosophy assuring excellent product or service quality and continuous process improving to realise highest customer satisfaction level. There ...are analysed methodology advantages allowing defects and costs reduction and customer satisfaction improvement. Also, authors discuss methodology successful implementation according to gathering data on business processes regulation indicators values variation, and issued products or services performances. The results of implementation process of the Six Sigma Methodology in business system depend on prompt and correct data needed for statistical analysis, and its accessibility via organisation’ information system. Correlation between implementation of Six Sigma Methodology and information system development is so strong that non-conformances could cause the Six Sigma Methodology implementation fall.
Since the Republic of Croatia became a candidate country to join European Union, a lot of EU financial instruments designed to support and fasten the process of entering the Union instantly became ...accessible. Regional policy is one of the most important subjects. It enables candidate countries to use of the resources of pre accession funds, in accordance with development potential of the regions. To make EU funds closer to the recipients, they must have the information and capacities necessary for participating. That is possible by using of IC technology, more concrete, by developing of Information system that will be a service to recipients (applicant, partners, and third person), and that way make influence of EU funds wider. An information and communication model for effective use of EU funds which is analyzed in this paper would improve EU funds absorption capacities in Croatia and would also be a very useful tool for Croatian regional development

Hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation is a standard approach in the treatment of hematological malignant diseases. For the last 15 years the main source of cells for transplantation have been ...peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC). With the availability of hematopoietic growth factors and understanding the advantages of treatment with PBSC, the application of bone marrow (BM) was supplanted. The aim of this survey was to explore the success of PBSC collection, the factors which influence the success of PBSC collection, the composition and the quality of graft and their influence on hematopoietic recovery and outcome after transplantation in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). PBSC were collected by the method of leukapheresis after applying a combination of chemotherapy and growth factors or only growth factors. The quality of graft was determined with the clonogenic progenitor cell assay and with the flow cytometry analysis. Of the total 134 patients with AML, who were submitted to HSC mobilization, the collection was successful in 78 (58.2%) patients. The collection was more successful after the first than after the second attempt of HSC mobilization (49% vs. 11%). The criteria for effective mobilization were the number of leukocytes > 3 x 10(9)/L and the concentration of CD34+ cells > 20 x 10(3)/mL in the peripheral blood on the first day of leukapheresis. The number of CD34+ cells infused had the strongest impact on hematopoietic recovery. We noted significantly faster hematological recovery of neutrophils and platelets, fewer number of transfused units of red blood cells and platelets, shorter duration of the tranfusion support, shorter treatment with intravenous antibiotic therapy and shorter hospitalization after PBSC compared to BM transplantation. These advantages could provide their standard application in the treatment of patients with AML.
