PurposeThis study aims to determine the influence of candidate employees' social media accounts (SMAs) on human resource (HR) professionals' hiring decisions as a job application reference in the ...tourism industry.Design/methodology/approachUsing a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted in tourism businesses, such as hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, bars, and ground-handling service companies. In-depth, open-ended interviews with 16 questions were conducted to gather data face to face between October 15 and December 20, 2021, with 38 HR professionals. The research questions were analyzed using thematic analysis and discussed under three main themes.FindingsThe findings of this study showed that HR managers in the tourism industry generally prefer to examine candidates' SMAs rather than traditional references because they can quickly and cheaply screen many applicants.Originality/valueSocial media (SM) is increasingly used as a crucial channel in recruitment within organizations. This paper contributes by filling a gap in HR management, which empirical studies on the influence of job applicant's SMAs on recruiters' hiring decisions have been limited so far.
The concept of bilingualism is gaining prominence in our daily lives due to political and social reasons. The fact that bilingualism has become an undeniable fact requires investigation of it in ...educational sciences. How prospective teachers perceive the concept of bilingualism will fill a gap in the literature in terms of understanding educational practices. In this context, the purpose of this study is to determine the perceptions of the Turkish language and literature teacher candidates who have received formation education about the concept of "bilingualism" through metaphors. About 92 Turkish language and literature teacher candidates, studying at Çukurova University, form the research group of the study, for which qualitative research design is adopted. As a data collection tool, each student was given a guidance note with the expression of “bilingualism is like… because…” and the blanks in this guidance note were asked to be filled in. The metaphors obtained in the study were collected in different categories. Content analysis technique was used to analyze the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that Turkish language and literature teacher candidates who received formation education had positive perceptions about the concept of bilingualism in a total of 12 concept categories.
Purpose
This paper aims to understand the most efficient hotel system and why efficiency varies across years and between the two differing types of hotel businesses in Turkey.
...Design/methodology/approach
A data envelopment analysis (DEA) analysis was used to characterise the efficiency of all-inclusive (AI) and bed and breakfast (B&B) hotel businesses with one output (total revenue) and three inputs (labour, food and capital costs). The Malmquist approach is then used to discern changes in total efficiency (TTE) and intertemporal shifts in the efficiency frontier (technological change (Tch)).
Findings
The results reveal that the AI hotel operates at 100% efficiency in the summer and year-round. The B&B hotel business operates at 89.6% with variable constant returns to scale during the summer and with 100% efficiency. The results of the Malmquist approach indicate that the total factor productivity grew in the years 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019, while the other years were marked by inefficiency. Such increases were due to technical efficiency change (TEch) and Tch, which means that managerial and allocative efficiency (AE) were barely achieved. Slight differences were noted in the two time periods (all year and summer), suggesting that the scale of hotel businesses is prepared to operate all year round, and this calls for strategies to mitigate seasonality.
Research limitations/implications
As to avenues for future research, the limitations of this study are threefold. First, the hotel businesses are not parallel in terms of the duration of their service offerings. Future research may consider including an AI hotel business that is in operation for the whole year. Second, businesses in Turkey are sceptical about sharing their data as it is considered confidential. However, to better generalise the results and encourage hoteliers to consider the positive outcomes of such analysis, the number of observations could be increased by considering more hotel businesses in both categories. Third, a mixture of data representing businesses operating in various countries may reflect if the efficiency scores vary internationally.
Practical implications
Overall, AI hotel businesses are more attractive but less efficient than B&B. Furthermore, the external crisis impacts the efficiency of hotel businesses meaning that hotel managers could keep on exploring AI, perhaps educating their hosts not to waste or not offer huge quantities. Hotel managers may also need to enlarge their seasonal activities to ensure more efficiency.
Social implications
Despite the intentions of AI hotel businesses to increase their profitability with a lower level of service quality, this study shows that the AI hotel business is very attractive but not so efficient due to the higher propensity of guests to consume food and beverages in excess that compromises the definition of efficiency as zero waste. AI is very attractive for family groups or those seeking the pleasure of relaxation at seaside resorts and is also very popular in Turkey. On the other hand, the B&B hotel business is more efficient but less attractive.
Originality/value
The contributions of this paper are threefold. First, the authors analysed the efficiency and inefficiency of hotel businesses within nine years of operations. During this period, Turkey experienced first a tourism boom (2011–2014) followed by stagnation and subsequently a sharp decline due to political instability resulting in an (in)direct impact on tourism (2015–2019). Second, the authors compared the efficiency and inefficiency of AI and B&B hotel businesses. Third, the authors examined the effects of hotel management factors to ensure efficiency.
Bu çalışmada etkileşim Lagranjiyen yöntemi kullanılarak, dejenere durumdaki uyarılmış kuarkların Yüksek Işınlıklı Büyük Hadron Çarpıştırıcısında (YI-BHÇ) rezonans üretimleri incelenmiştir. YI-BHÇ’de ...rezonans da üretilen uyarılmış kuarkların iki-jet son durumuna sahip olduğu sinyal kanalı için hesaplamalar yapılmıştır. Uyarılmış kuark sinyalini ardalandan ayırt edecek sınırlandırmaları belirlemek için sinyal ardalan analizi yapılmıştır. Bu analiz vasıtasıyla belirlenen sınırlandırmalar kullanılarak YI-BHÇ’de uyarılmış kuarkın kütlesi için keşif, gözlem ve dışarlama limitleri hesaplanmıştır. Ayrıca uyarılmış kuark için kompozitlik ölçeği taraması yapılarak, farklı kütle değerleri için ulaşabileceği en üst kompozitlik ölçeği değerleri hesaplanmıştır. Son olarak 1’den küçük serbest parametre değerlerinde dahi uyarılmış kuarkın YI-BHÇ’de keşif edilebileceği gösterilmiştir. Tüm bu hesaplamaların sonucunda, YI-BHÇ’nin uyarılmış kuarkları araştırmada çok iyi bir potansiyele sahip olacağı ortaya çıkmıştır.
This study investigated the resonance production of excited quarks in the degenerate state using the interaction Lagrangian method. Calculations have been made for the signal channel in which the excited quarks produced in the resonance in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) have dijet final states. Signal background analysis was performed to identify cuts to distinguish the excited quark signal from the background. Using the cuts determined by this analysis, the discovery, observation, and exclusion limits for the mass of the excited quark in the HL-LHC were calculated. In addition, a compositeness scale search was performed for the excited quark, and the highest compositeness scale values that it could reach for different mass values were calculated. Finally, it has been shown that the excited quark can be discovered in HL-LHC even with free parameter values less than 1. As a result of all these calculations, it has been revealed that HL-LHC will have an excellent potential in investigating excited quarks.
This study aims to investigate how the coronavirus has resulted in harmful effects on the tourism industry and how it has most likely shaken the common traditional practices that the industry had ...followed for years. With a chronological order, this is a case study focusing on personal observations and also personal communication with hoteliers and retailers commencing from the early weeks to the end of 2020 in Turkey. The study has resulted in the categorization of risks, challenges and responses under 10 parts. The study also provides implications for the literature and the industry at the business and destination level altogether.
Aim
The goal of this study is to evaluate possible factors affecting the survival of patients treated with gonadotropin‐releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues.
Methods
Demographic characteristics, ...treatment modalities, overall survival (OS) and the possible factors affecting the survival a total of 554 premenopausal breast cancer patients in Turkey evaluated retrospectively.
Results
The median duration of GnRH analogues use was 22 ± 13.6 (range, 1–87) months. Patients were divided into three groups according to the duration of GNRH analogues use; 4–12 months (Group A), 13–24 months (Group B) and ≥25 months (Group C). Overall, 530 patients were analyzed; 23.2%, 45.8%, 30.9% of the patients were in Group A, B and C, respectively. The median follow‐up duration was 34 ± 30.3 (range, 4–188) months. The OS in patients ≤35 years of age was found to be significantly longer than that of patients >35 years of age in Group B (log rank, P = 0.023). The disease‐free survival of the patients in Group A was significantly shorter than that of patients in Group C (log rank, P = 0.003). The OS of Group A patients was significantly shorter in comparison to that of Group B and Group C patients (log rank, P = 0.000) and the OS of Group B patients was significantly shorter than Group C (log rank, P = 0,000).
Conclusion
There is currently no definite data on the optimal duration of GnRH analogues use. One of the important results of this study that will provide an insight to the future studies is the improvement gained in OS by the increase in the duration of GnRH analogues use.
Gastric cancer is often diagnosed in advanced stage. Palliative chemotherapy or best supportive care is recommended for patients with metastatic gastric patients. In several clinical trials, ...palliative chemotherapy improved overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), but the survival benefit of second-line chemotherapy was demonstrated in small cohort studies. The main aim of our study was to compare retrospectively the efficacy of second-line modified EOX (epirubicin, oxaliplatin and capecitabine) mEOX and irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and leucovorin (FOLFIRI) regimens in metastatic gastric cancer patients that progressed on first-line modified docetaxel–cisplatin–fluorouracil (DCF) regimen. Metastatic gastric cancer patients who progressed on modified DCF regimens were included. A total 105 patients were included to this study; 55 and 50 patients were treated with mEOX and FOLFIRI regimens, respectively. The clinicopathological and demographic characteristics of all patients were collected from the medical charts. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was carried out for PFS and OS. The median follow-up of our study was 16 (4–85) months. In both groups, all of the patients were treated with first-line mDCF. Median cycle of second-line chemotherapy was 3 (1–8) and 3.5 (1–6) in EOX and FOLFIRI groups, respectively (

= 0.44). Overall response rate was observed in 34.6 % and 42.0 % of patients second-line chemotherapy in mEOX and FOLFIRI arms, respectively (

< 0.001). In our trial, triplet regimens mEOX and FOLFIRI regimens have similar efficacy as second-line treatment for patients with metastatic gastric cancer. FOLFIRI regimen was associated with more hematological toxicity.

Bunların ilk ikisinde çocukları yetiştirmeye yönelik kuramsal bilgiler ve öğütler yer alırken son ikisinde oyunlar yer almaktadır. Karabekir, açtığı okullar ve yazdığı çocuk oyunlarıyla onlara hem meslek edindirmiş hem de onları kendisi gibi ideal bir Türk insanı olarak yetişmelerine gayret etmiştir. Bu itibarla o, devlet ve milleti kalkındırmanın eğitim yoluyla, iyi ödev insanı yetiştirmekten geçtiğini göstermiştir.
