Based on a sample of 300 million K-S mesons produced in phi -> KLKS decays recorded by the KLOE experiment at the DA Phi NE e(+)e(-) collider we have measured the branching fraction for the decay ...K-S -> pi mu nu. The K-S mesons are identified by the interaction of K-L mesons in the detector. The K-S -> pi mu nu decays are selected by a boosted decision tree built with kinematic variables and by a time-of-flight measurement. Signal efficiencies are evaluated with data control samples of K-L -> pi mu nu decays. A fit to the reconstructed muon mass distribution finds 7223 +/- 180 signal events. Normalising to the K-S -> pi(+)pi(-) decay events the result for the branching fraction is B(K-S -> pi mu nu) = (4.56 +/- 0.11(stat) +/- 0.17(syst)) x 10(-4). It is the first measurement of this decay mode and the result allows an independent determination of vertical bar V-us vertical bar and a test of the lepton-flavour universality. (c) 2020 The Author. Based on an integrated luminosity of 1.61 fb(-1)e(+)e(-) collision data collected with the KLOE detector at DA Phi NE, the Frascati phi -factory, a search for the P- and CP-violating decay eta -> ...pi (+)pi (-) has been performed. Radiative phi -> eta gamma decay is exploited to access the eta mesons. No signal is observed in the pi (+)pi (-) invariant mass spectrum, and the upper limit on the branching fraction at 90% confidence level is determined to be B(eta -> pi (+)pi (-)) < 4.9 x 10(-6), which is approximately three times smaller than the previous KLOE result. From the combination of these two measurements we get B(<eta> -> pi (+)pi (-)) < 4.4 x 10(-6) at 90% confidence level.

We have measured the cross section σ(e+e−→π+π−γ) at an energy W=mϕ=1.02 GeV with the KLOE detector at the electron–positron collider DAΦNE. From the dependence of the cross section on the invariant ...mass of the two-pion system, we extract σ(e+e−→π+π−) for the mass range 0.35<s<0.95 GeV2. From this result, we calculate the pion form factor and the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly, aμ.
We searched for evidence of a Higgsstrahlung process in a secluded sector, leading to a final state with a dark photon U and a dark Higgs boson h′, with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE. We investigated ...the case of h′ lighter than U, with U decaying into a muon pair and h′ producing a missing energy signature. We found no evidence of the process and set upper limits to its parameters in the range 2mμ<mU<1000 MeV, mh′<mU.

The end result is a seamless data transport from the readout system to the storage library, accompanied by concurrent on line calibrations and data quality control.

Brittle asthma is a rare form of severe asthma characterized by a wide variation of Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF), in spite of heavy doses of steroides. Brittle asthmatic patients had very serious and ...often, life threatening, attacks. Type 1 brittle asthma is characterized by a mantained PEF variability despite therapy, and it affected mostly female, aged between 15 and 55 years. Type 1 is associated to skin prick tests positivity and food intolerance. Several studies have referred a correlation with personality disorders. The patients affected with type 1 have high morbidity, and frequently they have hospital admission for assessment and stabilitation their asthmatic condition. Type 2 brittle asthma is characterized by acute attacks that are very severe and could led to death or mechanical ventilation for respiratory insufficiency. Brittle asthma is very difficult to recognize and to treat. In type 1 brittle asthma, the therapy is based on inhaled and/or oral steroids, and beta2-agonists, used with an inhaler or with subcutaneous infusion. The patients affected with type 1 had to be nearly monitered and treated. Patients affected with type 2 brittle asthma, are mostly free by simptoms, but they have severe attacks that led them to emergency treatment. Brittle asthma is a rare form of severe asthma, that the clinicians may recognize and treat very strictly, because of high morbidity and mortality.
G-quadruplex stabilizers are an established opportunity in anticancer chemotherapy. To circumvent the antiproliferative effects of G4 ligands, cancer cells recruit PARP enzymes at telomeres. Herein, ...starting from the structural similarity of a potent G4 ligand previously discovered by our group and a congeneric PARP inhibitor, a library of derivatives was synthesized to discover the first dual G4/PARP ligand. We demonstrate that a properly decorated thieno3,2-cquinolin-4(5H)-one stabilizes the G4 fold in vitro and in cells, induces a DNA damage response localized to telomeres, inhibits PARylation in cells, and has an antiproliferative effect in BRCA2 deficient tumor cells.

The quadrupole tile calorimeters of KLOE (QCAL) are two compact detectors placed close to the interaction point and surrounding the focusing quadrupoles. Their purpose is to increase the hermeticity ...of KLOE calorimetry. Each QCAL consists of a sampling structure of lead plates and scintillator tiles with wavelength shifter (WLS) fibers and mesh photomultiplier readout arranged in 16 azimuthal sectors. The arrangement of WLS fibers allows the measurement of the longitudinal position of the showers from time of flight. In this paper we describe the QCAL design and assembly and present preliminary results obtained with both cosmic rays and photons from K
L decays. The time and energy calibration procedures are also discussed in detail.
