Based on its simplicity and user‐friendly characteristics, OpenMP has become the standard model for programming on shared‐memory architectures. Checkpointing‐aided parallel execution (CAPE) is an ...approach that utilizes the discontinuous incremental checkpointing technique (DICKPT) to translate and execute OpenMP programs on distributed‐memory architectures automatically. Currently, CAPE implements the OpenMP execution model by utilizing the DICKPT to distribute parallel jobs and their data to slave machines, and then collects the results after executing these distributed jobs. Although this model has been proven to be effective in terms of performance and compatibility with OpenMP on distributed‐memory systems, it cannot fully exploit the capabilities of multicore processors. This paper presents a novel execution model for CAPE that utilizes two levels of parallelism. In the proposed model, we add another level of parallelism in the form of multithreaded processes on slave machines with the goal of better exploiting their multicore CPUs. Initial experimental results presented near the end of this paper demonstrate that this model provides significantly enhanced CAPE performance.
In Vietnam, the rate of absolute uterine factor infertility is increasing, but no study has been published on uterine transplantation. The present study was designed to comprehensively observe the ...canine uterine anatomy and to examine the possibility of using a living canine donor for uterine transplantation training and further research.
Ten female Vietnamese mixed-breed dogs were sacrificed for anatomical research, and 15 additional pairs were used to evaluate the novel uterine transplant model.
The anatomic features of the canine uterus differed considerably from those of the human uterus, with the uterine vessels originating from branches of the pudendal vessels (also known as the vaginal vessels). The uterine vascular pedicle had a small diameter (1 to 1.5 mm for arteries and 1.2 to 2.0 mm for veins) and required manipulation under a microscope. To perform uterine transplantation, the donor specimen's artery and vein lengths were successfully reconstructed by anastomosis between both sides of the vasculature using autologous Y-shaped subcutaneous veins. The living-donor uterine transplantation model constructed in this study was feasible, with the transplanted uterus surviving in 86.7% of cases (13/15).
Uterine transplantation was successfully performed in a Vietnamese canine living donor model. This model could be helpful in uterine transplantation training and improve the transplantation success rate in humans.
Saline soils reduce available phosphorus, retarding plant growth, and rice is particularly affected. We evaluated the ability of purple nonsulfur bacteria to resist the acidic-sodium conditions in ...saline acid sulfate soil and saline soil, and their ability to enhance rice growth and grain yield by releasing normally unavailable phosphorus. Two P-solubilizing Luteovulum sphaeroides strains were applied to rice seedlings in a soil pot experiment. Single cultures and a mixed (1:1) culture of the strains increased rice growth and grain yield up to 10% in saline acid sulfate soil and 18% in saline soil. After harvest, both inoculated soils showed significantly increased pHH2O but significantly decreased electrical conductivity. The increase in Pavail in both inoculated soils resulted in higher accumulations of P in the rice plants. The need for chemical P fertilizer was reduced by 50% of the recommended application. Both inoculated soil types showed significant increases in NH4+ and potassium. Sodium concentrations in both inoculated soil types were significantly lower than in controls. Proline content in rice from both inoculated soil types was also significantly lower. Rice grain yields were proportional to the inoculated bacterial populations.

Hereditary cancer syndromes (HCS) are responsible for 5-10% of cancer cases. Genetic testing to identify pathogenic variants associated with cancer predisposition has not been routinely available in ...Vietnam. Consequently, the prevalence and genetic landscape of HCS remain unknown.
1165 Vietnamese individuals enrolled in genetic testing at our laboratory in 2020. We performed analysis of germline mutations in 17 high- and moderate- penetrance genes associated with HCS by next generation sequencing.
A total of 41 pathogenic variants in 11 genes were detected in 3.2% individuals. The carrier frequency was 4.2% in people with family or personal history of cancer and 2.6% in those without history. The percentage of mutation carriers for hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes was 1.3% and for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome was 1.6%.

mutations located at the BRCA C-terminus domains and the top recurrent mutation was NM_007294.3:c.5251C>T (p.Arg1751Ter). One novel variant NM_000038.6(APC):c.6665C>A (p.Pro2222His) was found in a breast cancer patient with a strong family history of cancer. A case study of hereditary cancer syndrome was illustrated to highlight the importance of genetic testing.
This is the first largest analysis of carrier frequency and mutation spectrum of HCS in Vietnam. The findings demonstrate the clinical significance of multigene panel testing to identify carriers and their at-risk relatives for better cancer surveillance and management strategies.
The prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has increased, particularly among individuals who have recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Health literacy is ...considered a "social vaccine" that helps people respond effectively to the pandemic. We aimed to investigate the association between long COVID-19 and PTSD, and to examine the modifying role of health literacy in this association.
A cross-sectional study was conducted at 18 hospitals and health centers in Vietnam from December 2021 to October 2022. We recruited 4,463 individuals who had recovered from COVID-19 infection for at least 4 weeks. Participants provided information about their sociodemographics, clinical parameters, health-related behaviors, health literacy (using the 12-item short-form health literacy scale), long COVID-19 symptoms and PTSD (Impact Event Scale-Revised score of 33 or higher). Logistic regression models were used to examine associations and interactions.
Out of the study sample, 55.9% had long COVID-19 symptoms, and 49.6% had PTSD. Individuals with long COVID-19 symptoms had a higher likelihood of PTSD (odds ratio OR, 1.86; 95% confidence interval CI, 1.63-2.12; p<0.001). Higher health literacy was associated with a lower likelihood of PTSD (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97-0.99; p=0.001). Compared to those without long COVID-19 symptoms and the lowest health literacy score, those with long COVID-19 symptoms and a 1-point health literacy increment had a 3% lower likelihood of PTSD (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.96-0.99; p=0.001).
Health literacy was found to be a protective factor against PTSD and modified the negative impact of long COVID-19 symptoms on PTSD.
Intense pulsed light (IPL) has been used extensively in aesthetic and cosmetic dermatology. To test whether IPL could change the tissue vascularity and improve wound healing, mice were separated into ...4 groups. Mice in Group I were not treated with IPL, whereas, dorsal skins of mice in Groups II, III, and IV were treated with 35 J/cm2, 25 J/cm2, and 15 J/cm2 IPL, respectively. After 2 weeks, dorsal island skin flaps were raised, based on the left deep circumflex iliac vessels as pedicles; then, survival rate was assessed. Flaps in Group IV (treated with lowest dose of IPL) have a survival rate significantly higher than other groups. Counting blood vessels did not demonstrate any significant differences; however, vessel dilation was found in this group. The results show that IPL at the therapeutic doses which are usually applied to humans is harmful to mouse dorsal skin and did not enhance wound healing, whereas, IPL at much lower dose could improve wound healing. The possible mechanism is the dilation of tissue vasculature thanks to the electromagnetic character of IPL. Another mechanism could be the heat-shock protein production.

This study provides evidence on the frequency-based dependency networks of various financial assets in the tails of return distributions given the extreme price movements under the exceptional circumstance of the Covid-19 pandemic, qualified by the IMF as the Great Lockdown. Our results from the quantile cross-spectral analysis and tail-dependency networks show increases in the network density in both lower and upper joint distributions of asset returns. Particularly, we observe an asymmetric impact of the Covid-19 because the left-tail dependencies become stronger and more prevalent than the right-tail dependencies. The cross-asset tail-dependency of equity, currency and commodity also increases considerably, especially in the left-tail, implying a higher degree of tail contagion effects. Meanwhile, Bitcoin and US Treasury bonds are disconnected from both tail-dependency networks, which suggests their safe-haven characteristics.
The failure to transform heritage into assets is one of the main constraints for community-based tourism development. This article shows how access to bank credit contributes to income enhancement ...among ethnic minorities involving community-based tourism homestays. A multistage sampling technique and direct interviews using questionnaires were used to collect a rich dataset of a total 262 homestays in Northwestern Vietnam. To deal with model uncertainty, the approach of double-selection lasso logistic regression applied to Propensity Score Matching was used. Results show that credit recipients increased their total income level from US$180.11 to US$228.58 with an average of US$194.63 compared to non-recipients based on four different matching algorithms. The results suggest that the provision of bank credit should be expanded to enhance income for homestays. To facilitate homestay access to bank credit, stronger collaboration between homestays and travel agencies, better access to training and the adoption of a mobile-based banking platform by homestays are all needed. Smartphone-based credit services to homestays have the potential to reduce transaction costs of accessing credit for mountainous regions. Results imply that heritage can serve as productive assets via financial leverage.
