K+Λ(1405) photoproduction has been studied at the BGOOD experiment via the all neutral decay, Λ(1405)→Σ0π0. The unique BGOOD experimental setup allows both the cross section and Λ(1405) invariant ...mass distribution (line shape) to be measured over a broad K+ polar angle range, extending to extreme forward K+ angles unattainable at previous experiments.
Evidence is provided for the role of a triangle singularity driven by the N⁎(2030) resonance, which appears to contribute significantly to K+Λ(1405) photoproduction. This is observed in the integrated cross section which was determined with unprecedented energy resolution and supported by the angular distributions. The measured line shape is also in agreement with the previous results of CLAS and ANKE, and is consistent with two poles derived in χPT based models.
The γp→K+Σ0 differential cross section at extremely forward angles was measured at the BGOOD experiment. A three-quarter drop in strength over a narrow range in energy and a strong dependence on the ...polar angle of the K+ in the centre-of-mass of the reaction is observed at a centre-of-mass energy of 1900 MeV. Residing close to multiple open and hidden strangeness thresholds, the structure appears consistent with meson-baryon threshold effects which may contribute to the reaction mechanism.

differential cross sections and recoil polarisation data from threshold for extremely forward angles are presented. The measurements were performed at the BGOOD experiment at ELSA, ...utilising the high angular and momentum resolution forward spectrometer for charged particle identification. The high statistics and forward angle acceptance enables the extraction of the cross section as the minimum momentum transfer to the recoiling hyperon is approached.
In a search for ω mesic states, the production of ω-mesons in coincidence with forward going protons has been studied in photon induced reactions on 12C for incident photon energies of 1250–3100 MeV. ...The π0γ pairs from decays of bound or quasi-free ω-mesons have been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system in coincidence with protons registered in the MiniTAPS forward array. Structures in the total energy distribution of the π0γ pairs, which would indicate the population and decay of bound ω11B states, are not observed. The π0γ cross section of 0.3 nb MeV−1 sr−1 observed in the bound state energy regime between −100 and 0 MeV may be accounted for by yield leaking into the bound state regime because of the large in-medium width of the ω-meson. A comparison of the measured total energy distribution with calculations suggests the real part V0 of the ω11B potential to be small and only weakly attractive with V0(ρ=ρ0)=−15±35(stat)±20(syst) MeV in contrast to some theoretical predictions of attractive potentials with a depth of 100–150 MeV.
New therapeutic strategies are necessary to improve the treatment of lung cancer. We investigated the effects of bombesin/gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) antagonist, RC-3940-II, and growth ...hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) antagonists, MZ-J-7-114 and MZ-J-7-118, on the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/HER (-2, -3, and -4) family, angiogenic factors, VEGF-A and VEGF receptors (VEGF-R1 and VEGF-R2), and the apoptotic molecules Bax and Bcl-2, in H-460 and A-549 non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC). Nude mice bearing xenografts of H-460 and A-549 NSCLC were treated daily with these peptide analogues for 4 weeks. The treatment resulted in growth inhibition of H-460 by 22-77% and A-549 NSCLCs by 64-84%. The inhibition of tumor growth was associated with a down-regulation of members of EGFR/HER family. A significant reduction of the levels of expression of EGFR/HER family on both tumors varied from 29-96%: the greatest inhibition being induced by RC-3940-II. Similarly, a significant decrease in the levels of VEGF-A in tumors by 19-60% and VEGF receptors (VEGF-R1, 24-74% and VEGF-R2, 25-50%) was detected after therapy. An up-regulation of Bax by 21-63% and a down-regulation of Bcl-2 by 23-39% was observed only for H-460 NSCLC. Our study demonstrates that human H-460 and A-549 NSCLC, express receptors for GHRH and bombesin/GRP, and respond to the respective antagonists. The antagonists of bombesin/GRP and GHRH could provide a new strategy for treatment of NSCLC through down-regulation of EGFR/HER family and an interference with the angiogenic and apoptotic pathways.
Bombesin/gastrin-releasing peptide (BN/GRP) antagonists RC-3940-II and RC-3940-Et, and growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) antagonists MZ-J-7-118 and RC-J-29-18 inhibit the growth of human ...androgen-independent PC-3 and DU-145 prostate cancers in nude mice. Additive inhibitory effects were observed after treatment with both classes of analogs. In the present study, we investigated the effects of these antagonists on intracellular signalling pathways of protein kinase C (PKC), mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK) and
c-fos and
c-jun oncogenes that are involved in tumour cell proliferation. In PC-3 tumours, antagonists of BN/GRP and GHRH decreased significantly the expression of PKC isoforms alpha (α), eta (η) and zeta (ζ) and increased that of delta (δ) PKC protein. MAPK was not detectable. In DU-145 tumours, which constitutively express MAPK, all treatments strongly decreased the levels of p42/44 MAPK. Treatment with the antagonists tended to reduce m-RNA for
c-jun in both tumour models. In proliferation assays
in vitro, inhibitors of PKC and MAPK diminished growth of DU-145 and PC-3 cells. These findings suggest that antagonists of BN/GRP and GHRH inhibit the growth of androgen-independent prostate cancer by affecting intracellular signalling mechanisms of PKC, MAPK and
c-jun.
The excitation function and momentum distribution of η′ mesons have been measured in photon induced reactions on 12C in the energy range of 1250–2600 MeV. The experiment was performed with tagged ...photon beams from the ELSA electron accelerator using the Crystal Barrel and TAPS detectors. The data are compared to model calculations to extract information on the sign and magnitude of the real part of the η′-nucleus potential. Within the model, the comparison indicates an attractive potential of −(37±10(stat)±10(syst)) MeV depth at normal nuclear matter density. Since the modulus of this depth is larger than the modulus of the imaginary part of the η′-nucleus potential of −(10±2.5) MeV, determined by transparency ratio measurements, a search for resolved η′-bound states appears promising.
BGO-OD is a new meson photoproduction experiment at the ELSA facility of Bonn University. It aims at the investigation of non strange and strange baryon excitations, and is especially designed to be ...able to detect weekly bound meson-baryon type structures. The setup for the BGO-OD experiment is presented, the characteristics of the photon beam and the detector performances are shown and the initial experimental program is discussed.
