Subtyping negative symptoms has been showed to be a very relevant point for the identification of ...primary negative symptoms and for their pharmacotherapy. Negative symptoms as a whole have been demonstrated in schizophrenic and non-schizophrenic patients, but these studies did not report about the primary and secondary subtypes. 3. The present study is the first one investigating primary negative symptoms in schizophrenic and non-schizophrenic patients. 84 consecutively admitted psychiatric patients have been studied 5 years after their discharge. 4. All negative symptoms (including the primary subtype) according to Carpenter (Kirkpatrick et al. 1989) and Andreasen (Andreasen 1981) could be identified in all diagnostic groups.
The authors report on six pediatric liver transplant recipients for whom allograft tolerance occurred shortly after transplantation (ie, less than 1.5 years). All the patients had associated ...life-threatening viral complications. They are currently immunocompetent. The tolerant state may be related to the development of a TH2 cytokine pattern.
This White Paper presents the scientific motivations for a multi-object spectrograph (MOS) on the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT). The MOS case draws on all fields of contemporary ...astronomy, from extra-solar planets, to the study of the halo of the Milky Way and its satellites, and from resolved stellar populations in nearby galaxies out to observations of the earliest 'first-light' structures in the partially-reionised Universe. The material presented here results from thorough discussions within the community over the past four years, building on the past competitive studies to agree a common strategy toward realising a MOS capability on the E-ELT. The cases have been distilled to a set of common requirements which will be used to define the MOSAIC instrument, entailing two observational modes ('high multiplex' and 'high definition'). When combined with the unprecedented sensitivity of the E-ELT, MOSAIC will be the world's leading MOS facility. In analysing the requirements we also identify a high-multiplex MOS for the longer-term plans for the E-ELT, with an even greater multiplex (>1000 targets) to enable studies of large-scale structures in the high-redshift Universe. Following the green light for the construction of the E-ELT the MOS community, structured through the MOSAIC consortium, is eager to realise a MOS on the E-ELT as soon as possible. We argue that several of the most compelling cases for ELT science, in highly competitive areas of modern astronomy, demand such a capability. For example, MOS observations in the early stages of E-ELT operations will be essential for follow-up of sources identified by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). In particular, multi-object adaptive optics and accurate sky subtraction with fibres have both recently been demonstrated on sky, making fast-track development of MOSAIC feasible.
Differences in the patterns of negative symptoms between two subgroups of inpatients with chronic schizophrenia and a deficit syndrome were examined: one subgroup presented episodic symptoms, while ...the other exhibited a continuous course of positive symptoms. Patients with a continuous course of positive symptoms showed significantly higher affective blunting and anhedonia according to the SANS, a lower BPRS activation score and a lower age of onset in males than episodic cases. These results suggest that in deficit schizophrenia different courses of positive symptoms are associated with different severity degrees and different patterns of negative symptoms.
The Canarias InfraRed Camera Experiment (CIRCE) is a near-infrared (1-2.5 micron) imager, polarimeter and low-resolution spectrograph operating as a visitor instrument for the Gran Telescopio ...Canarias 10.4-meter telescope. It was designed and built largely by graduate students and postdocs, with help from the UF astronomy engineering group, and is funded by the University of Florida and the U.S. National Science Foundation. CIRCE is intended to help fill the gap in near-infrared capabilities prior to the arrival of EMIR to the GTC, and will also provide the following scientific capabilities to compliment EMIR after its arrival: high-resolution imaging, narrowband imaging, high-time-resolution photometry, imaging polarimetry, low resolution spectroscopy. In this paper, we review the design, fabrication, integration, lab testing, and on-sky performance results for CIRCE. These include a novel approach to the opto-mechanical design, fabrication, and alignment.
Abstract
We present experimental results on the electromagnetic excitation of neutron-rich nickel isotopes, making use of the R3B-LAND setup at GSI. Exotic beams were produced at approximately 500 ...MeV/u and their reactions were studied in inverse kinematics. Integral cross sections for 58Ni are discussed and compared to previous data, providing a validation of our experimental method. The E1 excitation-energy distribution of the unstable 68Ni is presented as well, showing an excess in cross section in the 1n decay channel when compared only with a typical Giant Dipole Resonance.
