The principle and some examples of magneto-Archimedes separation of feeble magnetic materials have been introduced. Under magneto-Archimedes levitation condition, the stable levitation position ...depends on the materials because it is determined by the difference in volume magnetic susceptibilities and densities between objects and their surroundings. By using this feature, this novel magnetic separation technique was successfully demonstrated. When some powder mixtures composed of feeble magnetic materials were levitated, the initial mixture underwent separation into each kind of the ingredient particle aggregates immediately. It was also confirmed that this method is sensitive to both material density and magnetic susceptibility. This technique seems to be a beneficial way for the practical separation of feeble magnetic materials.
Despite the formal establishment of the Health Support Pharmacy system, few community pharmacies have transitioned to this new designation in Japan. Moreover, patients' perspectives on the usefulness ...of health-support pharmacies and community pharmacies have not yet been investigated. In this work, we investigated patients' attitudes, opinions, and awareness as users of member pharmacies of the Japan Federation of Democratic Medical Institutions (Min-Iren), with respect to two essential functions provided by community pharmacies-primary care and health support-to identify modern challenges facing community pharmacies.
Regular visitors to participating Min-Iren community pharmacies were asked to complete an anonymous questionnaire. Responses were compared between users of health-support pharmacies and other pharmacy types, as well as between members and non-members of "collaborating organizations" (CO). CO is organizational partners of Min-Iren whose activities support affiliated facilities. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the predictive value of different factors on pharmacies' primary-care and health-support functionality.
A total of 181 Min-Iren community pharmacies (51.7%: 181/350) participated in this study, and most patients answered the questionnaire (97.7%, n=2623). Relatively few patients recognized the term "Health Support Pharmacy" (12.2%). CO members tended to have a superior understanding of a wide variety of services provided by CPs as compared to non-members. Statistically significant predictors of primary-care and health-support functionality included male gender, having a primary-care pharmacist, age ≥60 years, recognition of the term "Health Support Pharmacy" and CO membership.
CO members, a class of patients with a superior awareness of health promotion, demonstrated a good understanding of the variety of services provided by community pharmacies and tended to positively rate their pharmacy. Moving forward, efforts to raise awareness about the importance of health-promotional activities among community pharmacy users should further reinforce the primary-care and health-support functions of community pharmacies.
Abstract
Background
Recently, the analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform by artificial intelligence has been reported to pick out those who have atrial fibrillation (AF) or have a high ...potential of developing AF, which, however, cannot explain the mechanisms or algorisms for the prediction from its nature.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis to investigate the difference of weighting in predicting capability for AF among hundreds of automatically-measured ECG parameters using a single ECG at sinus rhythm.
Methods and results
Out of Shinken Database 2010–2017 (n=19170), 12825 patients were extracted, where those with ECG showing AF rhythm at the initial visit (including all persistent/permanent AF and a part of paroxysmal AF) and those with structural heart diseases were excluded. Out of 639 automatically-measured ECG parameters in MUSE data management system (GE Healthcare, USA), 438 were used. Analysis 1 A predicting model for paroxysmal AF were determined by logistic regression analysis (Total, n=12825; paroxysmal AF, n=1138), showing a high predictive capability (AUC = 0.780, p<0.001). In this model, the relative contribution of ECG parameters (by coefficient of determination) according to the time phase were P:72.4%, QRS:32.7%, and ST-T:13.7%, respectively (Figure A). Analysis 2 Excluding AF at baseline, a predicting model for new-developed AF were determined by Cox regression analysis (Total, n=11687; new-developed AF, n=87), showing a high predictive capability (AUC = 0.887, p<0.001). In this model, the relative contribution of parameters (by log likelihood) according to the time phase were P:40.8%, QRS:42.5%, and ST-T:24.9%, respectively (Figure B).
Conclusions
We determined ECG parameters that potentially contribute to picking up existing AF or predicting future development of AF, where the measurement of P wave strongly contributed in the former whereas all time phases were similarly important in the latter.

The process of vesicle solubilization and size growth by detergents, especially by octylglucoside, was examined in detail in order to elucidate the phenomena observed in the vesicle-to-micelle ...transition and to clarify the size-determining factor of vesicles prepared by removing detergent from phospholipid-detergent mixed micelles. In the vesicle solubilization process, when the detergent concentration in the vesicle membrane reached a critical value, the collapse of large unilamellar vesicles (LUV) into small unilamellar vesicles (SUV) was observed. This newly appeared SUV were named SUV*. The SUV* could be produced by adding an appropriate amount of detergent to the SUV prepared by an ultrasonication method so as to increase the concentration to a little over the critical value, such as, in the case of adding octylglucoside, a molar ratio of 1.0-1.1 to phospholipid in the membrane phase. The SUV* containing octylglucoside were fusible and grow time-dependently, but those containing sodium cholate were not fusible. On the basis of the SUV* data, the following problems were solved: the variety of the size of the vesicles prepared by detergent removal from mixed micelles composed of a phospholipid and different detergents, or by different removal methods; the complex appearance of turbidity or vesicle size observed in vesicle destruction and formation; the conflict between LUV and SUV in the partition behavior of detergent and the size change with addition of detergent.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT

We concluded high gradient magnetic separation experiments of iron (ferromagnetic) nano-particles with a nominal diameter of 50 nm by using a superconducting magnet. In the experiment, we fabricated ...fine iron particles using a thermal reactive plasma method in argon and hydrogen mixed gas and sent them directly to the magnetic separator. We present the experimental results, functions of the capture ratio on the magnetic flux density, and velocity of flow. We conclude that high gradient magnetic separation can separate nano-particles and is useful for nano-technology
Summary
The objective of this study was to describe the reference values of cranial measurements of capybaras, correlating the ocular orbit with the nasolacrimal duct. The documentation of its ...results can contribute to standardizing characteristics of anatomical normality and favouring the correct diagnosis and treatment of changes. The capybara carcasses, maintained by freezing, were distributed in two groups (G) designated GA (n = 12) adult animals (A) and GY (n = 13) for young animals (Y). All subjects underwent dacryocystography examination by computed tomography (CT) and cranial measurements. Descriptive analyses of cranial and nasolacrimal duct measurements and statistical analysis of the Pearson correlation with the variable weight were performed. In GA, there was no correlation between the nasolacrimal and cranial duct measurements. However, in the GY, a correlation was verified with facial length (r = .6233), facial width (r = .5771), cranial height (r = .6981), cranial length (r = .7116), total right length (r = .7517) and left length (r = .7999). Thus, in the young animals, cranial length measurements were strongly correlated with nasolacrimal duct lengths. However, this biological behaviour was not observed in adults, demonstrating stability in development. The capybara's ocular orbit was found to be circular and incomplete, with developed zygomatic process of the maxilla. CT dacryocystography is indicated to evaluate the nasolacrimal canal pathway in capybaras, emphasizing the importance of normal anatomical study to aid in treating animals affected by diseases.
Barley lipoxygenase (LOX)-1 is believed to affect the stability of flavour and the foam of beer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the genetic variation of the LOX-1 thermostability, and ...to analyse the mode of inheritance of this trait. A simple method was established to evaluate the LOX-1 relative thermostability (LOX-RTS). With this method, 153 barley cultivars were screened for LOX-RTS. The frequency of the LOX-RTS values was distributed in a bimodal manner. Based on these values, the barley lines were categorized into two groups: an H-type with relatively thermostable LOX-1 and an L-type with relatively thermolabile LOX-1. Using a 'Steptoe'/'Morex' doubled haploid population, a major quantitative trait locus (QTL) associated with LOX-RTS was identified on chromosome 4H of barley, explaining 82% of the variance. Mapping of a CAPS marker specific for the LoxA locus revealed co-segregation with this QTL. In this study, the existence of the thermostability types of barley seed LOX-1 and the locus controlling the thermostability were made clearer.
Bovine beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) variant A has been expressed in the methylotropic yeast Pichia pastoris by fusion of the cDNA to the sequence coding for the alpha-mating factor prepro-leader peptide ...from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. P. pastoris Mut+ transformants were obtained by single cross-over integration of the BLG-containing vector into the AOX1 locus. In a fed-batch fermenter, a cell density of approximately 300 mg/ml was achieved by controlled glycerol feeding for a total of 24 h. After 72 h of methanol induction, the secreted BLG reached levels of > 1 g/l. The secreted protein could be purified to homogeneity by ion-exchange chromatography. Amino-terminal sequencing of the secreted BLG revealed that the Glu-Ala spacer repeats inserted between the mature protein and the alpha-factor prepro-leader were still present. The purified protein was characterized by a number of methods, including CD spectroscopy, guanidine-HCl unfolding, crystallization and two-dimensional 1H-NMR spectroscopy. By all of these measures, the physical characteristics of recombinant BLG were indistinguishable from those of the native purified bovine BLG, making it useful as a model for protein folding and other biophysical studies.
Nanoparticles are attractive nanomaterials, since they exhibit unique physical and chemical properties. We have found that poly(substituted thiophene) nanoparticles, ranging in size from several tens ...to hundreds of nanometers, exhibit size‐dependent characteristic spectroscopic properties and thermochromic behavior, which can be explained by distorted polymer conformations in the surface layer (see graphic).
The rym3 (formerly designated ym3) gene conferring resistance to barley yellow mosaic virus (BaYMV) is effective against all strains of the virus but up to now has not been mapped to any chromosome. ...We performed a linkage analysis, using DNA extracted from individually harvested mature leaves of 153 F(2) plants derived from a cross between BaYMV-resistant cv 'Ishuku Shirazu' carrying rym3 and susceptible cv 'Ko A'. Additionally, the F(3) lines derived from F(2) plants were grown in the BaYMV-infested field and examined for their reaction to BaYMV. Our results indicated that rym3 is located on the short arm of chromosome 5H and flanked by RFLP markers MWG28and ABG705A at distances of 7.2 and 11.7 cM, respectively. The chromosomal configuration estimated by DNA markers around rym3 and the utilization of these molecular markers for pyramiding with the BaYMV resistance genes in barley breeding programs are discussed.
