The Central Neutron Detector is a scintillator barrel that was designed to detect 0.2-1 GeV neutrons at lab polar angles from 40∘ to 120∘ in the CLAS12 spectrometer in Hall B at Jefferson Laboratory. ...The design is based on three radial layers of paddles read out at the upstream end of the barrel by photomultipliers tubes. Neighboring paddles in each layer are coupled together at the downstream end of the barrel by “U-turn” light guides. The components of this detector are presented and the performance of the detector with the first beam data taken by CLAS12 is reported.

In conclusion, all extracts and petroleum ether extracts of the two plants have great potential to be developed as a novel acaricidal for controlling eggs and nymphs of
H. dromedarii
, respectively.
The Electron Ion Collider (EIC) is the next generation of precision QCD facility to be built at Brookhaven National Laboratory in conjunction with Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory. There are a ...significant number of software and computing challenges that need to be overcome at the EIC. During the EIC detector proposal development period, the ECCE consortium began identifying and addressing these challenges in the process of producing a complete detector proposal based upon detailed detector and physics simulations. In this document, the software and computing efforts to produce this proposal are discussed; furthermore, the computing and software model and resources required for the future of ECCE are described.
This article presents a collection of simulation studies using the ECCE detector concept in the context of the EIC’s exclusive, diffractive, and tagging physics program, which aims to further explore ...the rich quark–gluon structure of nucleons and nuclei. To successfully execute the program, ECCE proposed to utilize the detector system close to the beamline to ensure exclusivity and tag ion beam/fragments for a particular reaction of interest. Preliminary studies confirm the proposed technology and design satisfy the requirements. The projected physics impact results are based on the projected detector performance from the simulation at 10 or 100 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. Additionally, insights related to a potential second EIC detector are documented, which could serve as a guidepost for future development.

Abstract The NEMO-3 results for the double- $$\beta $$ β decay of $$^{150}$$ 150 Nd to the 0 $$^+_1$$ 1 + and 2 $$^+_1$$ 1 + excited states of $$^{150}$$ 150 Sm are reported. The data recorded during ...5.25 year with 36.6 g of the isotope $$^{150}$$ 150 Nd are used in the analysis. The signal of the $$2\nu \beta \beta $$ 2 ν β β transition to the 0 $$^+_1$$ 1 + excited state is detected with a statistical significance exceeding 5 $$\sigma $$ σ . The half-life is measured to be $$T_{1/2}^{2\nu \beta \beta }(0^+_1) = \left 1.11 ^{+0.19}_{-0.14} \,\left( \hbox {stat}\right) ^{+0.17}_{-0.15}\,\left( \hbox {syst}\right) \right \times 10^{20}$$ T 1 / 2 2 ν β β ( 0 1 + ) = 1 . 11 - 0.14 + 0.19 stat - 0.15 + 0.17 syst × 10 20 year, which is the most precise value that has been measured to date. 90% confidence-level limits are set for the other decay modes. The EIC Comprehensive Chromodynamics Experiment (ECCE) detector has been recommended as a reference design for the proposed Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) program. Here, this paper presents simulation ...studies of exclusive J/$\psi$ detection and selected physics impact results in EIC using the projected ECCE detector concept. Exclusive quarkonium photoproduction is one of the most popular processes in EIC, which has a large cross section and a simple final state. Due to the gluonic nature of the exchange Pomeron, this process can be related to the gluon distributions in the nucleus. Preliminary results estimate the excellent statistics benefited from the large cross section of J/$\psi$ photoproduction and superior performance of ECCE detector concept. The precise measurement of exclusive J/$\psi$ photoproduction at EIC will help us to more deeply understand nuclear gluon distributions, near threshold production mechanism and nucleon mass structure.
Background:
There have been conflicting reports regarding the effect of smoking on complications after surgical treatment of ankle fractures. This study aimed at identifying the complications for ...which smokers and subgroups of smokers are at a higher risk compared to nonsmokers when undergoing surgery for fixation of rotational ankle fractures.
Methods:
The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data set from 2008 to 2019 was used to compare the 30-day wound, cardiac, renal, and infectious complications, related readmissions, and return to the operating room between the 2 cohorts.
Results:
Of 33 741 patients included, 25 642 (76.0%) were nonsmokers and 8099 (24.0%) were smokers. Multivariate analysis showed that smokers were at a higher risk for deep wound infection (OR 2.34, 95% CI 1.48-3.69, P < .001), wound dehiscence (OR 2.43, 95% CI 1.56-3.77, P < .001), related return to the operating room (OR 1.69, 95% CI 1.36-2.11, P < .001), and related readmissions (OR 1.67, 95% CI 1.32-2.09, P < .001). Smokers at an increased risk for deep infection included patients between 50 and 59 years (OR 5.75, 95% CI 1.78-18.5, P = .003), who were Black (OR 4.24, 95% CI 1.04-17.23, P = .044), who had body mass index (BMI) 35 to 39.9 (OR 3.73, 95% CI 1.46-9.50, P = .006), or operative times between 60 and 90 minutes (OR 3.64, 95% CI 1.79-7.39, P < .001). Smoker subgroups at a higher risk for wound dehiscence included patients between 50 and 59 years (OR 9.86, 95% CI 3.29-29.53, P < .001), with operative times between 90 and 120 minutes (OR 4.88, 95% CI 1.89-12.58, P < .001), with BMI 30 to 34.9 (OR 3.06, 95% CI 1.45-6.45, P = .003) and who underwent spinal/epidural anesthesia (OR 9.31, 95% CI 2.31-37.58, P = .002).
Conclusion:
Smokers were at an increased risk for deep wound infection, wound dehiscence, related reoperations, and related readmissions after ankle fracture surgery. Certain subgroups were at an even higher risk for these complications.
