Dermal melanocytosis refers to congenital or acquired lesions characterized by the presence of dendritic cells derived from melanocytes that migrate from the neural crest to the epidermis. The nevus ...of Ito develops in the territory supplied by the acromioclavicular nerve. Malignant transformation in dermal melanocytosis is extremely rare, with only isolated case reports; only 2 cases of malignant transformation of a nevus of Ito have been reported. We report a very rare case that is the third to be described in the literature. The patient was a 24-year-old man who presented with a subcutaneous nodule that had developed in the anterolateral region of the thorax over the previous 8 months. The nodule was located beneath a faint blue-gray macule with poorly defined borders. Biopsy of the nodule revealed malignant melanoma; biopsies of the adjacent skin lesion showed a diffuse proliferation of scattered melanocytes in a collagen stroma in the reticular dermis. A diagnosis of malignant transformation of a nevus of Ito was made after other possibilities were ruled out.
In this work we use the Monte Carlo method to simulate the photoexcited carrier relaxation dynamics in suspended monolayer graphene to unveil the role of the different scattering mechanisms involved. ...The results show a strong activity of carrier-carrier and carrier-optical phonon interactions in the very early stages of the relaxation process driving the thermalization and cooling dynamics. The consideration of the coupling between the electron and phonon population reveals an intense damping in the cooling rates that is dependent on the pumped carrier concentration.
This article studies the monetary transfers system that was created by the short-term inland bill of exchange markets. For decades this system was the most practical way of channeling the growing ...volume of transfers which were taking place as a consequence of the growth of the Spanish economy. This analysis argues that, between 1775 and 1885, the markets involved in this activity became progressively more efficient, due largely to the multilateralization of the payment system. This situation lasted longer in Spain than in the rest of Europe since Spanish banking was, initially, slower to develop. Using univariate and multivariate GARCH models, it was possible to conclude that the inland bill of exchange markets constituted an essential monetary instrument, and one that faithfully reflects the integration of monetary markets in Spain.
To gather specific details about the information, communication, and treatment as regards users of hospital emergency services using a telephone survey, in order to implement improvement measures, if ...necessary.
A prospective study was conducted in two emergency departments in Salamanca. A total of 400 patients were included in the study (mean age 56.4±20.5years, 58.4% women). A telephone survey was performed with 19 items, of which 12 required responses on a Likert-type scale, with scores of 1 (very bad) to 5 (very good). The remainder of the questions allowed to answer "yes" or "no".
The treatment received by the professionals in general was evaluated positively by 86% of the patients; with 92% reporting they were respectful, 87% were treated by doctors and 71% received treatment from nurses. More than one-quarter (27.5%) did not recall receiving information from blue point staff (personnel specially trained to provide information. Statistical significance (P=.045) was found in relation to the kindness and respect shown by nurses. Most patients that were admitted to the observation area of the emergency department were not informed about the visiting hours (P=.003).
Perception of care received by patients is good, while in relation to information and communication it is evidently improvable, and could be assessed using the survey that is proposed in order to detect and use the weaknesses in these aspects of health care as implementation initiatives.
The load sharing impact on the efficiency of spur gears with modified profile was assessed in this work. The aim was to analyse the influence of the profile modifications on the load sharing, which ...also considers the effect of the torque level on the system deflections, and how these load sharing variations affected the system efficiency. Due to the frictional effect importance on power losses, in the operating conditions considered, sliding friction between teeth in presence of lubricant was studied in this proposal. The results established that tip relief improves the efficiency of the system due to the reduction of effective contact ratio. Moreover, there is a tip relief which makes optimal the efficiency in specific operating conditions, corresponding to the unit value of the effective contact ratio. Thus, the main conclusion of this work is that the tip relief which makes optimal the efficiency coincides with the theoretical dynamic optimum of the transmission.
The potential environmental impact of aromatic and halogenated chemicals from the petrochemical and steel industry is of growning concern. The present paper deals with the modelling and experimental ...determination of density and speed of sound at the range 278.15–323.15 of six aromatic and halogenated compounds (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Fluorobenzene, 2-Fluorotoluene and Chlorobenzene). Fitting equations were applied to the data in order to correlate for later computer based design. The estimation of the studied properties was made by the application of different theoretical procedures. The Mchaweh–Nasrifar–Moshfeghian model (MNM), an equation of state based on the generalized van der Waals theory which combines the Staverman–Guggenheim combinatorial term of lattice statistics with an attractive lattice gas expression and the Free Length Theory showed a good response at the studied conditions.
