Threshold voltage (VTh) drift of Schottky-type p-GaN gate high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT) was analyzed under high-voltage and hard switching conditions with a resistive load (R-Load). To ...overcome the distortion in the drain current (ID) - gate voltage (VG) curve caused by the internal drain capacitance (IDisp) charging current during the switching transients, a method is presented to accurately measure dynamic VTh through appropriate correction of IDisp. The dynamic variation of VTh was tracked with a gate-drive rise/fall times of 200 ns. During the switching operation, VTh increases rapidly at the beginning and then saturates at a stable value. This is attributed to the gate forward current during turn-on that increases the hole depletion of the p-GaN gate through the AlGaN barrier. The dynamic VTh increases linearly at a rate of 40% with the increase of gate turn-on voltage. VTh is independent of duty cycle but minorly increases with frequency at high voltages, suggesting that channel hot electrons be injected into the AlGaN barrier and p-GaN.
Abstract
Background
Positive results from real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) in recovered patients raise concern that patients who recover from coronavirus disease ...2019 (COVID-19) may be at risk of reinfection. Currently, however, evidence that supports reinfection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has not been reported.
Methods
We conducted whole-genome sequencing of the viral RNA from clinical specimens at the initial infection and at the positive retest from 6 patients who recovered from COVID-19 and retested positive for SARS-CoV-2 via rRT-PCR after recovery. A total of 13 viral RNAs from the patients’ respiratory specimens were consecutively obtained, which enabled us to characterize the difference in viral genomes between initial infection and positive retest.
Results
At the time of the positive retest, we were able to acquire a complete genome sequence from patient 1, a 21-year-old previously healthy woman. In this patient, through the phylogenetic analysis, we confirmed that the viral RNA of positive retest was clustered into a subgroup distinct from that of the initial infection, suggesting that there was a reinfection of SARS-CoV-2 with a subtype that was different from that of the primary strain. The spike protein D614G substitution that defines the clade “G” emerged in reinfection, while mutations that characterize the clade “V” (ie, nsp6 L37F and ORF3a G251V) were present at initial infection.
Conclusions
Reinfection with a genetically distinct SARS-CoV-2 strain may occur in an immunocompetent patient shortly after recovery from mild COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 infection may not confer immunity against a different SARS-CoV-2 strain.

The major suppressive immune cells in tumor sites are myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), tumor‐associated macrophages (TAMs), and Treg cells, and the major roles of these suppressive immune ...cells include hindering T‐cell activities and supporting tumor progression and survival. In this study, we analyzed the pattern of circulating MDSC subtypes in patients with non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whether those suppressive immune cells hinder T‐cell activities leading to poor clinical outcomes. First, we verified PMN‐MDSCs, monocytic‐MDSCs (M‐MDSCs), and Treg cells increased according to the stages of NSCLC, and MDSCs effectively suppressed T‐cell activities and induced T‐cell exhaustion. The analysis of NSCLC patients treated with anti‐PD‐1 immunotherapy demonstrated that low PMN‐MDSCs, M‐MDSCs, and CD39+CD8+ T cells as an individual and all together were associated with longer progression free survival and overall survival, suggesting PMN‐MDSCs, M‐MDSCs, and CD39+CD8+ T cells frequencies in peripheral blood might be useful as potential predictive and prognostic biomarkers.
Pre‐existing PMN‐MDSCs, M‐MDSCs, and CD39+CD8+ T cells can be used as predictive biomarkers in anti‐PD‐1 immunotherapy targeting NSCLC. Together with MDSCs, IL‐10 possibly released by suppressive immune cells also leads poor clinical outcomes. Therefore, combinatorial strategies targeting MDSCs or IL‐10 should be investigated to improve outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Background
As of 2017, American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) had the highest prevalence of illicit drug use of any ethnic group in the United States, with 17.6% of the population aged 12 and older ...reporting using illicit drugs in the last month. Studies have shown the positive correlation between a history of trauma and substance use disorder. In fact, the majority of youth in treatment for substance misuse reported a history of trauma. Intergenerational trauma, systematic discrimination, and displacement are downstream effects of colonization, and experiences of racism often define the life experiences of AI/ANs who use substances. This paper describes the process of designing a developmentally and culturally appropriate primary prevention supplement for an evidence‐based program to prevent substance use and increase cultural identity among AI/AN youth.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of heat treatment (searing and reverse searing) on the volatile components and physicochemical and sensory characteristics of beef tenderloin. In ...reverse-seared steaks (RSSs), the loss rate was lower than in seared steak (SS), and several free amino acids (glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, and anserine) were increased, while a decrease in fatty acids (FAs) and volatile compounds (VCs) was observed. The VCs were identified as 24 compounds: 11 aldehydes, 5 alcohols, 1 ketone, 1 furan, and 6 aliphatic hydrocarbons. Hexanal was the predominant aldehyde, followed by pentanal and heptanal in both groups. Among the VCs with significant differences, only hexadecanal and 2,3-octanedione were increased in RSSs. During texture profile analysis (TPA), it was found that the characteristics of hardness, chewiness, and gumminess were lower in RSSs, which resulted in a higher score in the sensory evaluation. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the reverse searing method reduced the formation of meat flavor more than the searing method due to the limited Maillard reaction it caused. However, the mild heat treatment in the reverse searing process caused a remarkable increase in the appearance, texture, and amino acid content, which positively influenced the flavor.
Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that primarily affects the optic nerve and spinal cord within the central nervous system (CNS). Acute astrocyte injury caused by ...autoantibodies against aquaporin 4 (NMO-IgG) is a well-established key factor in the pathogenesis, ultimately leading to neuronal damage and patient disability. In addition to these humoral immune processes, numerous innate immune cells were found in the acute lesions of NMO patients. However, the origin and function of these innate immune cells remain unclear in NMO pathogenesis. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the origin and functions of these innate immune cells in an NMO-like mouse model and evaluate their role in the pathophysiology of NMO. The expression of Tmem119 on Iba1 + cells in brain tissue disappeared immediately after the injection of NMO-IgG + human complement mixture, while the expression of P2ry12 remained well-maintained at 1 day after injection. Based on these observations, it was demonstrated that monocytes infiltrate the brain during the early stages of the pathological process and are closely associated with the inflammatory response through the expression of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β. Understanding the variations in the expression patterns of P2ry12, Tmem119, and other markers could be helpful in distinguishing between these cell types and further analyzing their functions. Therefore, this research may contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms and potential treatments for NMO.
Sustainable treatment and management of fecal sludge in rural areas require adapted solutions. Rustic and simple operating processes such as sludge treatment reed beds (STRB) have been increasingly ...considered for this purpose. The biggest full scale (2,600 m
of STRB) septage treatment unit in France had been built in Nègrepelisse with the final objectives of reusing treated sludge and leachates for agriculture spreading and tree irrigation, respectively. The aim of this investigation was to validate the treatment chain of this installation. The obtained field data showed firstly that the overall removal efficiencies of STRB were satisfactory and stable. Removal rates higher than 98% for chemical oxygen demand and suspended solids and a 95% for Kjeldahl nitrogen represented so far a beneficial septage treatment by STRB. The highlighted necessity of a suitable complementary leachate treatment (before tree irrigation) justified the presence of the second stage of vertical flow constructed wetland. The sludge deposit drying and mineralization efficiencies were on the right track. According to hydrotextural diagram analysis, surface deposit was however found to have high deformability probably due to the youth of the installation. An in-depth understanding of STRB system needs continuous long-term studies.

This study aims to investigate human hair color perception through two empirical studies in the context of colored hair. The preliminary study was intended to establish a numerical representation of ...perceptually meaningful brightness levels. It identified that the brightness level was proportional to the power of 0.766 of L*. In the visual assessment, participants (N = 47) categorized 246 hair color samples into eight color hue groups aligned with the Munsell system. Hue judgment was conducted by visually comparing dyed hair tresses with natural black hair. Based on the L*, a*, and b* values of hair tresses and visual assessments thereof, we observed the ranges of hue categories for hair color alongside the brightness levels. Additionally, the differences between the Munsell hue names and the assessment results were compared. Predominantly influenced by the dark brown hair color, the neutral orientation was shifted to the first quadrant of the a*-b* plane. The study contributes to an understanding of human hair color perception and provides insights into color categorization and labeling, especially when the context is confined.

Nucleocytoplasmic transport (NCT) decline occurs with aging and neurodegeneration. Here, we investigated the NCT pathway in models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-fused in sarcoma (ALS-FUS). ...Expression of ALS-FUS led to a reduction in NCT and nucleoporin (Nup) density within the nuclear membrane of human neurons. FUS and Nups were found to interact independently of RNA in cells and to alter the phase-separation properties of each other in vitro. FUS-Nup interactions were not localized to nuclear pores, but were enriched in the nucleus of control neurons versus the cytoplasm of mutant neurons. Our data indicate that the effect of ALS-linked mutations on the cytoplasmic mislocalization of FUS, rather than on the physiochemical properties of the protein itself, underlie our reported NCT defects. An aberrant interaction between mutant FUS and Nups is underscored by studies in Drosophila, whereby reduced Nup expression rescued multiple toxic FUS-induced phenotypes, including abnormal nuclear membrane morphology in neurons.
