Forest fire is an important phenomenon affecting forest ecosystem. It causes essential changes in ecological conditions (e.g. light availability, water and nutrient regime). The aim of this paper is ...to evaluate its impact on soil as well as herb and moss layer of the secondary pine forest. The study area is located in the southwestern part of Slovakia (Borská nížina lowland). Marked changes in physical and chemical soil properties were induced by forest fire. Soils moisture contents were higher in burnt soil probably as a result of increased soil wettability. Infiltration rate decreased on the burnt area due to sealing of pores by ash material. Burning of soil organic matter caused increase in soil pH and available nutrients. In the period of 2005-2007, floristic composition, biomass production and presence/absence of mushrooms were recorded both for burnt and neighboring control areas. Compare to the control stands, especially nitrophilous (synanthropic) species are appearing, first of all Conyza canadensis, Solidago canadensis and Chamerion angustifolium. Also composition of mycoflora is changed - its composition is shifted on the behalf of pioneer and indifferent species. Moreover, the pine natural seeding is obvious here. Information on succession is supported by biomass production estimation.

The paper is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the total herb layer biomass (above- and belowground) in four broad-leaved forest ecosystems (Carici pilosae-Carpinetum, Carici ...pilosae-Fagetum, Aceri-Carpinetum and Stellario-Alnetum) near Skalica (Zlatnícka dolina valley) in the Biele Karpaty Mts. Results (Table 2) are discussed and compared with other ones obtained from similar forest ecosystems of Slovakia.

The contribution is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the total herb layer biomass (above-belowground) in the different age stages of the willow stands (soft-wood floodplain ...forest of the Salici-Populetum association) in the Danube river inundation. The basic results vary between 1.3 to 3.1 t per ha according to the age structure and herb layer cover. At all studied forest types, aboveground biomass is higher than belowground one (1.60–7.00 t per ha). The results are compared with those obtained from the Danube and Morava river alluvium.

The paper is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the herb layer in two floodplain forest categories - transitional ash-poplar and hardwood ash-elm forests. The basic results of the ...total herb layer biomass (aboveground, belowground) are varied in transitional floodplain forests between 800-1600 kg per ha and in hardwood floodplain forests between, 750-1350 kg per ha. At both forest types is essentially higher aboveground biomass than belowground one. Obtained results are compared with other ones in the Danube and Morava rivers alluvium.

The contribution is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the herb layer biomass in three oak forests types (the association Carici fritschii-Quercetum roboris ) – type with Molinia ...caerulea agg., secondary forest with Pinus sylvestris and xerophilous type. Obtained results are compared and discussed.
The paper is focused upon detail production-ecological analysis of the total herb layer biomass (above-and belowground) in the various types of the soft floodplain forests on the Danube river. The ...basic results varied between 1 and 5.5 tons per hectare according to the herb layer cover. At all forest types, aboveground biomass is essentially higher than the belowground one (2.52-3.11). The results are compared with other ones obtained from the Danube and Morava river alluvium.
This paper deals with effects of liming by dolomite powder and fertilisation by phosphate fertilizers on building up the tree volume in young (8 years old) plantations of Picea abies (L.) K a r s t. ...in forests of the village of Nálepkovo (Slovenské rudohorie Mts). The results are based on two semipractice experimental plots, which are situated nearly at the same site conditions. Following especially the effect of liming, we observed that studied measures lead to significantly different results in tree volume and therefore we do not propose liming as a universal sanitation measure for diseased forest stands.
