Evaluate the degree of integrity of the Cuban statistical registry of maternal deaths and the quality of the classification of the causes of death included in that registry.
We analyzed the ...information of all Cuban women who died in fertile age in 2013 according to the continuous mortality registry of the Directorate of Medical Records and Health Statistics of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP), regardless of the main cause of death informed. Four research groups (national, expert, provincial and health units), each with defined functions, applied four forms to establish if the women had been pregnant in the year prior to death, to reassess whether the cases corresponded to a maternal death and, in that case, to review the classification.
Deaths of 2 731 women of reproductive age notified in Cuba in 2013 were assessed. Of them, the cause of death of 2 711 (99.3%) was conclusive and, of these, 97 (3.6%) had had a pregnancy in the year prior to death. We found 50 maternal deaths (one more than in the continuous registry) for a 2% error and an adjustment factor of 1.02. Of the 97 deaths studied, only 4 cases were reclassified: 2 maternal deaths and 1 death related to pregnancy, delivery and puerperium, according to the continuous registry, which were reclassified as direct deaths; and 1 death considered non- maternal by the continuous registry that was reclassified as late maternal death, for a 95.9% concordance.
The information on maternal deaths included in the MINSAP's continuous mortality registry has a high level of integrity. The quality of the classification of maternal deaths in this registry is high; reclassification of causes of death is uncommon.

Método. Descripción de la evolución del telecentro tipificando sus recursos y servicios, relacionándolos con los prestados habitualmente por otras instituciones (las bibliotecas públicas) para acercar la Sociedad de la Información a los ciudadanos. A partir del conjunto de servicios y recursos se definen indicadores para evaluar el estado de la cuestión.
Análisis. Tras el análisis de las redes de telecentros, se categorizan recursos y servicios y tomando como base el modelo propuesto se formula una metodología de evaluación, proponiendo un análisis multivariable para obtener una medida más precisa del grado de implantación.
Conclusiones. Se obtienen datos exhaustivos de implantación de los telecentros en España y su distribución que demuestran su papel como elementos dinamizadores en zonas desfavorecidas. El modelo de servicios y recursos constituye un instrumento para conocer la oferta integral de estas entidades y prever desarrollos futuros, además de constituir una fuente de información para la medida de su impacto en la Sociedad de la Información.
Abstract Purpose There are limited tools to assess potential prescribing omissions (PPOs) or underprescribing in the elderly. The ACOVE project defines comprehensive quality care indicators for older ...people and some of these indicators focused on appropriate use of medicines. The aim of the present study was to assess the inter-rater reliability between observers using the ACOVE 3 prescribing indicated medications indicators and compare it with the inter-rater reliability obtained for the Screening Tool of Older Person's Prescriptions (STOPP)/Screening Tool to Alert Doctors to Right Treatment (START) criteria. Methods In the context of an observational and multicentric study of a cohort of 672 patients 75 years and older who were hospitalized in Internal Medicine services of seven Spanish hospitals, an inter-rater reliability study using the ACOVE selected indicators and the STOPP/START criteria was carried out between April 2011 and March 2012. Three patients were randomly selected in each participating hospital, one for each four months of study. Results A total of 21 patients (mean (SD) age of 84.3 (5.6) years, 57.1% female) were included in the inter-rater reliability study. For the STOPP, START and ACOVE criteria, the median kappa coefficient for the seven hospital analyses was 0.97, 0.92 and 0.95, respectively. Out of 123 total indicators in only 7 (5.7%) was the kappa coefficient value below 0.75. Only for 2 (5.6%) of the 37 studies selected ACOVE quality indicators was the kappa coefficient value less than 0.75. Conclusions A high inter-rater reliability was obtained for the selected underprescribing quality indicators of ACOVE 3. These quality indicators may be considered a useful tool in detecting underprescribing to the elderly patients.
Few studies conducted in primary care setting report about age-adjusted prevalence rates of erectile dysfunction (ED). Aims of SIMETAP-ED study were to determine crude and age-adjusted prevalence ...rates of ED diagnosis, to compare these rates with other similar studies, and to compare prevalence rates of cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF), cardiovascular diseases (CVD), metabolic diseases and chronic kidney disease (CKD) between populations with and without ED.
Cross-sectional observational study conducted in primary care setting. Population-based random sample: 2934 adult men. Response rate: 66%. A clinical interview was conducted to diagnose ED using a question derived from ED definition. The medical records of patients were reviewed to identify their CVRF and diseases associated with ED. The age-adjustments were standardized to Spanish population.
The prevalence rates of metabolic diseases, CVD, CVRF, and CKD in population with ED were higher than population without ED, highlighting the CVD. The crude prevalence of ED was 17.2% (95% confidence interval: 15.8-18.6). The age-adjusted prevalence rates of ED were 0.71% in men under 40 years, 12.4% in men over 18 years, 10.8% in men aged 40-69 years, 18.9% in men over 40 years, and 48.6% in men over 70 years.
SIMETAP-ED study showed association of ED with metabolic diseases, CKD, CVRF, and highlighting CVD. The age-adjusted prevalence of ED was 12.4% in adult men, 19% in men over 40 years, and almost 50% in men over 70 years.

In the last decade there has been an improvement in the control of hypertension and dyslipidaemia, but a worsening of cardio-metabolic risk factors related to obesity and diabetes.
The SIMETAP study is a cross-sectional descriptive, observational study being conducted in 64 Primary Care Centres located at the Community of Madrid. The main objective is to determine the prevalence rates of CVRF, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic diseases related to cardiovascular risk. A report is presented on the baseline characteristics of the population, the study methodology, and the definitions of the parameters and diseases under study. A total of 6631 study subjects were selected using a population-based random sample. The anthropometric variables, lifestyles, blood pressure, biochemical parameters, and pharmacological treatments were determined.
The highest crude prevalences were detected in smoking, physical inactivity, obesity, prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemias, and metabolic syndrome. A detailed analysis needs to be performed on the prevalence rates, stratified by age groups, and prevalence rates adjusted for age and sex to assess the true epidemiological dimension of these CVRF and diseases.
La prevención de la enfermedad cardiovascular se fundamenta en la detección y control de los factores de riesgo cardiovascular (FRCV). En España existen importantes diferencias territoriales tanto en la prevalencia como en el grado de control de los FRCV. En la última década ha habido una mejora del control de la hipertensión y la dislipidemia, pero un empeoramiento de los factores de riesgo cardiometabólicos relacionados con la obesidad y la diabetes.
El estudio SIMETAP es un estudio observacional descriptivo transversal realizado en 64 centros de atención primaria de la Comunidad de Madrid. El objetivo principal es determinar las tasas de prevalencia de FRCV, de las enfermedades cardiovasculares y de las enfermedades metabólicas relacionadas con el riesgo cardiovascular. El presente artículo informa sobre las características basales de la población, la metodología del estudio, y las definiciones de los parámetros y enfermedades en estudio. Se seleccionaron 6.631 sujetos de estudio mediante una muestra aleatoria base poblacional. Se determinaron variables antropométricas, estilos de vida, presión arterial, parámetros bioquímicos, y tratamientos farmacológicos.
Las prevalencias crudas más elevadas se detectaron en tabaquismo, inactividad física, obesidad, prediabetes, diabetes, hipertensión, dislipidemias y síndrome metabólico. Para valorar la verdadera dimensión epidemiológica de estas enfermedades y FRCV, es necesario realizar un análisis pormenorizado de tasas de prevalencia estratificadas por grupos etarios y de las tasas de prevalencia ajustadas por edad y sexo.
Background: La pandemia de Covid-19 ha impuesto retos sin precedentes en el ámbito sanitario, afectando notablemente a los profesionales de enfermería que trabajan en áreas críticas. Estos retos han ...repercutido en su calidad de vida profesional (CVP) y han incrementado los niveles de estrés laboral, aspectos esenciales tanto para el bienestar del personal sanitario como para la calidad del cuidado ofrecido a los pacientes. Objetivo: Este estudio busca explorar la relación entre la calidad de vida profesional y el estrés laboral en enfermeros de un hospital de mediana complejidad en Lima, Perú, durante la pandemia por Covid-19. Métodos: Se empleó una metodología cuantitativa, no experimental, transversal y correlacional, con una muestra no probabilística de 59 enfermeros. Los datos se recopilaron mediante cuestionarios en línea que evaluaban la CVP y el estrés laboral, utilizando herramientas validadas como el Nursing Stress Scale y el Cuestionario CVP-35. Resultados: La mayoría de los participantes (69,5%) perciben su CVP como buena, destacando altos niveles de motivación intrínseca y calidad de vida percibida. En contraste, la carga de trabajo fue el aspecto más negativamente valorado. El estrés laboral se percibió como bajo en general, y se encontró una correlación positiva moderada entre la CVP y el estrés laboral (r = 0,517; p < 0,05), sugiriendo que mejores condiciones de trabajo podrían mejorar la CVP. The aim of the study is to try and find out the state of surgical training in Spain and to determine whether it meets the objectives of the Program.
The results of two surveys carried out on ...Residents and General Surgery Tutors by the Spanish Surgeons Association, based on the conclusions of the XXVII Congreso Nacional de Cirugía. The questions formulated referred to general aspects of the Service and specific ones related to access, teaching activity, surgery, research and personal perspectives. The responses were defined, adjusted and categorised as quantitative and qualitative variables. The statistics program G Stat 2.0 was used for processing and the descriptive presentation of the results.
The surveys were sent to 626 Residents and 142 Tutors, with a response rate of 19% and 29%, respectively. First year residents predominated (32%) compared to later years, with an R-5 response index of 7.2%. A total of 91% knew the speciality Program well, and 76% were satisfied with the training received.
The results obtained as regards surgical activity agree with those established in the Program, both in the number of procedures and in their progression throughout the Residency, although it is not possible to ensure its uniformity. The functions and accreditation of the Tutors which are one of the main foundations of the training process are pending specific regulations.
La franja norte de crudos pesados representa la fuente principal de hidrocarburos cubanos. Las secuencias sellantes de la provincia gasopetrolífera norte cubana están representadas por un conjunto de ...formaciones orogénicas compuestas por rocas terrígenas con componentes arcillosos. Para la evaluación de la calidad de dichas formaciones como sellos, resulta imprescindible caracterizar desde el punto de vista mineralógico las rocas. El componente sellante en la franja norte de crudos lo constituyen las arcillas y son el objeto fundamental de la investigación, las cuales se distinguen por presentar una cristalinidad inferior a la de los carbonatos, tal efecto lo provocan las imperfecciones cristalinas: tamaño de cristalitas, desorden estructural y tensiones, mientras que los carbonatos presentan una composición química que incluye un número más reducido de elementos químicos que el que muestran las arcillas. En su caracterización, se aplicó la espectroscopía infrarroja y la difracción de rayos X. En la caracterización se obtuvieron grupos funcionales y fases cristalinas que determinan la naturaleza de los compuestos químicos. Con el mismo interés, se tomaron muestras pertenecientes a rocas arcillosas y carbonatadas de pozos como de superficie. Se logró determinar la composición de las rocas, que se distinguen por la mezcla compleja de: illita, esmectita, clorita e hidromica (hidromoscovita), a las cuales, las acompañan sus respectivos interestratificados.
