A new “static” renormalization group approach to stochastic models of fluctuating surfaces with spatially quenched noise is proposed in which only time-independent quantities are involved. As ...examples, quenched versions of the Kardar–Parisi–Zhang model and its Pavlik’s modification, the Hwa–Kardar model of self-organized criticality, and Pastor–Satorras–Rothman model of landscape erosion are studied. It is shown that the logarithmic dimension in the quenched models is shifted by two units upwards in comparison to their counterparts with white in-time noise. Possible scaling regimes associated with fixed points of the renormalization group equations are found and the critical exponents are derived to the leading order of the corresponding
ε
expansions. Some exact values and relations for these exponents are obtained.
The well-known effect of the local interaction between graphene and photoresist (LIGF) during the creation of biosensors is shown to lead to non-uniform distribution of compressive stresses, which ...deteriorates the adsorption properties of graphene, parameter reproducibility, and detecting ability of influenza B and SARS-Cov-2 biosensors. It is also shown that controlling the occurrence of LIGF areas on a graphene surface by atomic force microscopy or introducing a protective layer between graphene and photoresist can minimize the non-persistent effect of LIGF. The results of influenza B and SARS-CoV-2 imaging on the graphene surface in biosensor chips in a scanning electron microscope are presented.
The t(8;21)(q22;q22) rearrangement represents the most common chromosomal translocation in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It results in a transcript encoding for the fusion protein AML1-ETO (AE) with ...transcription factor activity. AE is considered to be an attractive target for treating t(8;21) leukemia. However, AE expression alone is insufficient to cause transformation, and thus the potential of such therapy remains unclear. Several genes are deregulated in AML cells, including KIT that encodes a tyrosine kinase receptor. Here, we show that AML cells transduced with short hairpin RNA vector targeting AE mRNAs have a dramatic decrease in growth rate that is caused by induction of apoptosis and deregulation of the cell cycle. A reduction in KIT mRNA levels was also observed in AE-silenced cells, but silencing KIT expression reduced cell growth but did not induce apoptosis. Transcription profiling of cells that escape cell death revealed activation of a number of signaling pathways involved in cell survival and proliferation. In particular, we find that the extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK2; also known as mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1)) protein could mediate activation of 23 out of 29 (79%) of these upregulated pathways and thus may be regarded as the key player in establishing the t(8;21)-positive leukemic cells resistant to AE suppression.
Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of disability and death in the world, and the number of patients with this category of diseases is increasing every year. This study aimed to ...investigate the role of vitamin D and the problems caused by its deficiency on the cardiovascular system. Level of D-(25(OHD) in blood was studied by enzyme immunoassay in 95 elderly patients with myocardial infarction (MI) (the main group) and 92 elderly patients with no history of MI. The level of lipid metabolism as an indicator was determined using a KoneLab 300 auto-analyzer. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the elderly group without MI had the highest amount of D-(25(OHD)(24.5±1.2), compared to the elderly group with MI (14.8±1.3). The rates of expressed deficiency, deficiency, and insufficiency in the group of elderly with MI were 53.6±5.1, 23.2±4.4, and 12.6±3.4%, respectively. This experiment has shown that D-(25(OHD) is involved in lipid metabolism and reduces the accumulation of cholesterol by macrophages. The content of vitamin D in blood plasma was a prognostic predictor of MI, which improved MI in the elderly. Regardless of pathological changes, the deficit level of D-(25(OHD) should be considered a laboratory predictor of MI in the elderly.
Graphene is considered as a promising candidate for manufacturing of sensors due to its extreme sensitivity to molecule absorption. In this work, we show the connection between the electrical and ...optical properties of epitaxial graphene chips grown on 4H-SiC and intended for the production of protein-based sensors. Using of a complex of techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, Kelvin probe microscopy, study of I-V characteristics and low-frequency noise, it is shown that the character of frequency dependence of the spectral density of voltage fluctuations and its value at a frequency of 1 Hz can be used for classification and selection of graphene chips for their application as sensors. Classification of the graphene chips will allow more efficient development of graphene-based biosensors.
