This article presents an overview of findings on the varieties of spoken Slovenian in Austrian Carinthia, focusing in particular on the changes perceived by researchers in the last two decades and on ...contemporary speech practices. Findings by other researchers are built upon with the results of biographical interviews conducted with seven students of Slovenian at the University of Klagenfurt. Three topics are at the forefront: the attitude toward the local dialect, the use of standard Slovenian variety, and speech accommodation in groups.
Contemporary Slovenian language standardisation includes the revision of the normative guide, a process taking place since 2013 within the Commission on Orthography. This article presents an overview ...of the scientific basis of this process as well as describes the systematic inclusion of different segments of the public in the phase of assessing the suitability of current orthographic rules and formulating new ones. This is due to an awareness that a normative guide can be accepted by the wider language community only through a convergence of differing opinions and codification based on arguments.
This paper focuses on understanding radio in the everyday life of young people: the role it plays in the context of their family life; how it is positioned relative to music; which novelties in the ...listening and selection of audio content do they practise. We rely on data from qualitative research performed in the project Media repertoires among youth, which included semi-structured group interviews with 67 young people aged 12–19 years. The radio is not listened to on their own initiative or individually, but with their parents; most often while they are driving around in the car. Their everyday life is most notably marked by music, which they primarily associate with listening on demand and at their own choice, through digital devices. These media choices are complemented by podcasts, especially among high school students.
This contribution examines hedging strategies and devices employed by journalists in selected interviews from two Slovene public radio programmes. Genre and discourse frameworks are taken into ...account, as they determine journalists' linguistic choices in general. The results are then compared to those from two Slovene language corpora, namely Gigafida (corpus of written texts) and GOS (corpus of oral communication), in order to determine how typical of radio interviews the hedging devices in question are. In the first section of the paper a brief account of the evolution of hedging as a concept and an overview of the past and recent research in the field are given as well as the arguments for the Slovene translation of the terms hedging and (to) hedge.
V ospredju so tri tematike: razmerje do lokalnega narečja, raba knjižnega jezika, govorno prilagajanje v skupinah.
Članek problematizira več vidikov delovanja in govora etablirane politične elite v kontekstu novega spletnega orodja Parlameter.
