Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder in gastrointestinal system and impairs the quality of life of the patients. Clostridium butyricum (CB) is a probiotics that has been used in ...several gastrointestinal diseases. The efficacy of CB in treating IBS is still unknown. This prospective, multi-centre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of CB in treating diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) and analyze the fecal microbiota after treatment. Two hundred patients with IBS-D were recruited and were given CB or placebo for 4 weeks. End points included change from baseline in IBS symptoms, quality of life, stool consistency and frequency. Compared with placebo, CB is effective in improving the overall IBS-D symptoms (-62.12 ± 74.00 vs. -40.74 ± 63.67, P = 0.038) as well as quality of life (7.232 ± 14.06 vs. 3.159 ± 11.73, P = 0.032) and stool frequency (-1.602 ± 1.416 vs. -1.086 ± 1.644, P = 0.035). The responder rates are found higher in CB compared with the placebo (44.76% vs. 30.53%, P = 0.042). The change in fecal microbiota was analyzed and function pathways of CB in treating IBS-D were predicted. In conclusion, CB improves overall symptoms, quality of life and stool frequency in IBS-D patients and is considered to be used as a probiotics in treating IBS-D clinically.

ABSTRACT
Dispersal is ubiquitous throughout the tree of life: factors selecting for dispersal include kin competition, inbreeding avoidance and spatiotemporal variation in resources or habitat ...suitability. These factors differ in whether they promote male and female dispersal equally strongly, and often selection on dispersal of one sex depends on how much the other disperses. For example, for inbreeding avoidance it can be sufficient that one sex disperses away from the natal site. Attempts to understand sex‐specific dispersal evolution have created a rich body of theoretical literature, which we review here. We highlight an interesting gap between empirical and theoretical literature. The former associates different patterns of sex‐biased dispersal with mating systems, such as female‐biased dispersal in monogamous birds and male‐biased dispersal in polygynous mammals. The predominant explanation is traceable back to Greenwood's () ideas of how successful philopatric or dispersing individuals are at gaining mates or the resources required to attract them. Theory, however, has developed surprisingly independently of these ideas: models typically track how immigration and emigration change relatedness patterns and alter competition for limiting resources. The limiting resources are often considered sexually distinct, with breeding sites and fertilizable females limiting reproductive success for females and males, respectively. We show that the link between mating system and sex‐biased dispersal is far from resolved: there are studies showing that mating systems matter, but the oft‐stated association between polygyny and male‐biased dispersal is not a straightforward theoretical expectation. Here, an important understudied factor is the extent to which movement is interpretable as an extension of mate‐searching (e.g. are matings possible en route or do they only happen after settling in new habitat – or can females perhaps move with stored sperm). We also point out other new directions for bridging the gap between empirical and theoretical studies: there is a need to build Greenwood's influential yet verbal explanation into formal models, which also includes the possibility that an individual benefits from mobility as it leads to fitness gains in more than one final breeding location (a possibility not present in models with a very rigid deme structure). The order of life‐cycle events is likewise important, as this impacts whether a departing individual leaves behind important resources for its female or male kin, or perhaps both, in the case of partially overlapping resource use.
Psychological co-morbidities in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have been widely recognized, whereas less is known regarding the role of gut microbial and host metabolic changes in clinical and ...psychological symptoms in IBS.
A total of 70 diarrhoea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) patients and 46 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. Stool and urine samples were collected from both groups for 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metabolomic analysis. The results showed that fecal microbiota in IBS-D featured depleted Faecalibacterium (adjusted P = 0.034), Eubacterium rectale group (adjusted P = 0.048), Subdoligranulum (adjusted P = 0.041) and increased Prevotella (adjusted P = 0.041). O-ureido-L-serine, 3,4-dihydroxybenzenesulfonic acid and (R)-2-Hydroxyglutarate demonstrated lower urinary concentrations in IBS-D patients. We further built correlation matrices between gut microbe abundance, differentiated metabolite quantities and clinical parameters. Dialister manifested negative association with IBS severity (r = - 0.285, P = 0.017), anxiety (r = - 0.347, P = 0.003) and depression level (r = - 0.308, P = 0.010). Roseburia was negatively associated with IBS severity (r = - 0.298, P = 0.012). Twenty metabolites correlated with anxiety or depression levels, including 3,4-dihydroxymandelaldehyde with SAS (r = - 0.383, P = 0.001), 1-methylxanthine with SDS (r = - 0.347, P = 0.004) and 1D-chiro-inositol with SAS (r = - 0.336, P = 0.005). In analysis of microbe-metabolite relationship, 3,4-dihydroxymandelaldehyde and 1-methylxanthine were negatively correlated with relative abundance of Clostridiumsensu stricto.
Our findings demonstrated altered microbial and metabolomic profiles associated with clinically and psychological symptoms in IBS-D patients, which may provide insights for further investigations.
Dual‐ion batteries (DIBs) have attracted much attention owing to their low cost, high voltage, and environmental friendliness. As the source of active ions during the charging/discharging process, ...the electrolyte plays a critical role in the performance of DIBs, including capacity, energy density, and cycling life. However, most used electrolyte systems based on the LiPF6 salt demonstrate unsatisfactory performance in DIBs. We have successfully developed a 7.5 mol kg−1 lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) in a carbonate electrolyte system. Compared with diluted electrolytes, this highly concentrated electrolyte exhibits several advantages: 1) enhanced intercalation capacity and cycling stability of the graphite cathode, 2) optimized structural stability of the Al anode, and 3) significantly increased battery energy density. A proof‐of‐concept DIB based on this concentrated electrolyte exhibits a discharge capacity of 94.0 mAh g−1 at 200 mA g−1 and 96.8 % capacity retention after 500 cycles. By counting both the electrode materials and electrolyte, the energy density of this DIB reaches up to ≈180 Wh kg−1, which is among the best performances of DIBs reported to date.

Abstract
We perform a systematic study of merging black hole (BH) binaries with compact star (CS) companions, including black hole–white dwarf (BH–WD), black hole–neutron star (BH–NS), and black ...hole–black hole (BH–BH) systems. Previous studies have shown that mass transfer stability and common envelope evolution can significantly affect the formation of merging BH–CS binaries through isolated binary evolution. With detailed binary evolution simulations, we obtain easy-to-use criteria for the occurrence of the common envelope phase in mass-transferring BH binaries with a nondegenerate donor, and incorporate the criteria into population synthesis calculations. To explore the impact of a possible mass gap between NSs and BHs on the properties of merging BH–CS binary population, we adopt different supernova mechanisms involving the
rapid

delayed
, and
stochastic
prescriptions to deal with the compact remnant masses and the natal kicks. Our calculations show that there are ∼10

stochastic
prescriptions predict that ∼100%/∼70%/∼30% of merging BH–WD/BH–NS/BH–BH binaries are likely to have BH components within the mass gap.
In tropics, especially Southeast Asia (SEA), heat wave (HW) research is seriously scarce although several global studies have projected this region to be greatly susceptible to increasing HW events ...under climate change scenarios. Using the recently released ERA5 reanalysis data, we find that in most parts of SEA, HWs are becoming more frequent, longer-lasting and stronger, no matter using dry-bulb or wet-bulb temperatures to define HW. The increasing trends of HW characteristics based on minimum temperatures are larger than those based on maximum temperatures, suggesting an alarming situation of anomalously warm night. HW characteristics based on wet-bulb temperatures show higher increasing rates in the IndoChina Peninsula and Malay Peninsula than those based on dry-bulb temperatures. Nearly all HW characteristics are significantly correlated with El Niño index, but Indian Ocean Dipole only significantly impacts HW characteristics based on wet-bulb temperature in Java. Results derived from other reanalysis products exhibit general agreement with those from ERA5, lending support to the findings reported herein. This study highlights the different role of humidity in changing HW trends in different regions of SEA, and calls for attention to the associated risk of increasing nighttime temperatures during HWs.

Injectable hydrogel possesses great application potential in disease treatment and tissue engineering, but damage to gel often occurs due to the squeezing pressure from injection devices and the ...mechanical forces from limb movement, and leads to the rapid degradation of gel matrix and the leakage of the load material. The self‐healing injectable hydrogels can overcome these drawbacks via automatically repairing gel structural defects and restoring gel function. The polysaccharide hydrogels constructed through the Schiff base reaction own advantages including simple fabrication, injectability, and self‐healing under physiological conditions, and therefore have drawn extensive attention and investigation recently. In this short review, the preparation and self‐healing properties of the polysaccharide hydrogels that is established on the Schiff base reaction are focused on and their biological applications in drug delivery and cell therapy are discussed.
This review summarizes the recent advances in the injectable and self‐healing polysaccharide hydrogel based on the Schiff base reaction. It introduces the mechanism of their self‐repairing, their fabrication and their biomedical application in the delivery of drug and cell. The focus is on the modification strategies and methods of the polysaccharides applied in gel preparation.
The sharing of travel experiences has become ubiquitous in today’s era. This study focuses on a pervasive trend among Millennial consumers: the experience of benign envy toward others’ positive ...travel experience sharing on social networking sites. Drawing on social comparison theory, the current study reveals why and under what conditions others’ positive experience sharing may trigger Millennial consumers’ destination visit intention. Using a mixed experimental design, this study finds that, among consumers with low trait self-esteem, luxury travel experiences shared by similar others stimulate focal consumers’ own intentions to visit the same destination. In addition, destination visit intention is triggered by benign envy toward the experience sharer. Important theoretical insights are provided regarding peer influence mechanism on social networking sites and travel consumption. Finally, managerial implications for destination marketers are presented with a focus on how to improve the effectiveness of social media marketing in targeting Millennials.
Circular RNA (circRNA) is a novel class of noncoding RNAs with functions in various pathophysiological activities. However, the expression profiles and functions of circRNAs in colorectal cancer ...(CRC) remain largely unknown.
High-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to assess circRNA expression profiles in 4 paired CRC tissues, and significantly dysregulated circRNAs were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed to predict the potential functions of dysregulated circRNAs. Target miRNAs of circRNAs were predicted using miRanda software, and were further analyzed combining DIANA-miRPath v.3 platform (Reverse Search module) with KEGG pathways of COLORECTAL CANCER and MicroRNAs in cancer (Entry: map05210 and map05206). CircRNA-miRNA interaction networks were constructed using Cytoscape software. Expression levels of a significantly down-regulated circRNA, circDDX17 (hsa_circ_0002211), was detected by qRT-PCR in 60 paired CRC tissues. CircDDX17 was knockdown by siRNA, and the biological functions of circDDX17 were examined in CRC cell lines.
Totally 448 differentially expressed circRNAs were identified, including 394 up-regulated and 54 down-regulated circRNAs. qRT-PCR validation confirmed the reliability of the RNA-Seq data. GO and KEGG analyses revealed that these dysregulated circRNAs were potentially implicated in CRC pathogenesis. Analyses by combining miRanda and miRPath softwares with KEGG pathways suggested that the miRNAs targeted by the top 10 dysregulated circRNAs were associated with the KEGG pathways of COLORECTAL CANCER and MicroRNAs in cancer, indicating that circRNA-miRNA interactions might play important functional roles in the initiation and progression of CRC. The results of qRT-PCR for circDDX17 in 60 paired CRC tissues showed that circDDX17 was significantly down-regulated in CRC tissues and associated with unfavorable clinicopathological parameters. In vitro experiments showed that silencing of circDDX17 promoted CRC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibited apoptosis.
In conclusion, we have identified numerous circRNAs that are dysregulated in CRC tissues compared with adjacent normal mucosa tissues. Bioinformatic analyses suggested that these dysregulated circRNAs might play important functional roles in CRC tumorigenesis. CircDDX17 functions as a tumor suppressor and could serve as a potential biomarker and a therapeutic target for CRC.
