Adipocytes are one of the primary stromal cells in many tissues, and they are considered to play an active role in the tumor microenvironment. Cancer-associated adipocytes (CAAs) are not only found ...adjacent to cancer cells, but also communicate with cancer cells through releasing various factors that can mediate local and systemic effects. The adipocyte-cancer cell crosstalk leads to phenotypical and functional changes of both cell types, which can further enhance tumor progression. Indeed, obesity, which is associated with an increase in adipose mass and an alteration of adipose tissue, is becoming pandemic in some countries and it is now considered to be an independent risk factor for cancer progression. In this review, we focus on the potential mechanisms involved with special attention to the adipocyte-cancer cell circle in breast cancer. We envisage that besides having a direct impact on tumor cells, CAAs systemically preconditions the tumor microenvironment by favoring anti-tumor immunity. A better understanding of cancer-associated adipocytes and the key molecular events in the adipocyte-cancer cell crosstalk will provide insights into tumor biology and permit the optimization of therapeutic strategies.
As video platforms such as Douyin, also known as TikTok's Chinese version, continue to grow, there is an increasing interest in the study of green advertising videos to understand their audiovisual ...features and their impact on audience engagement. In this research, we specifically focus on green advertising within the automotive industry. Drawing on literature from sustainability, green advertising, and communication studies, we identified seven audiovisual aspects and three persuasive strategies pertinent to green automotive advertising videos. Utilizing a mixed-methods video analysis framework, we analyzed a dataset of 2,553 green automotive advertising videos on Douyin over three years from 15 June 2020 to 15 June 2023. These videos exhibited higher loudness, a faster pace, and longer durations compared to their non-green counterparts. We categorized three distinct types of green advertising videos on Douyin and established that specific audiovisual features and persuasive strategies are significantly correlated with audience engagement levels. This study not only delineates the audiovisual characteristics of green automotive advertising in China's digital space but also contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable marketing practices on social networks like TikTok. The findings extend image-centric research to video content and provide marketers with data-driven insights for crafting effective content creation strategies on Douyin.
Fang Junbi 方君璧 was a famous Chinese female painter of the twentieth century and a core member of the Wang Jingwei 汪精衛 clique. As an intellectual woman of both the old and new eras, she had fierce ...national affection and patriotic zeal and also held moral ideals on the lasting loyalty and unchanging nature of love and friendship. During World War II she experienced the loss of country and family and the course of Wang Jingwei seeking peace with Japan. While extremely pained internally, her feelings for Wang remained as strong as ever, and when he fell gravely ill she risked her life to travel to Japan to be with him. Wang gave her an inkstone as a parting gift, signifying that the affection between the two was as solid as stone. During the 1970s she accepted an invitation to return to China where she witnessed the historic achievements of New China and sincerely identified with the Communist Party of China and its revolutionary culture. Knowing herself and her home country was the deepest sentiment of her life, and these two sentiments cannot be fully accounted for using the narrative of "women's liberation" in Chinese revolution or Western feminist discourse. Through the winding path of affection in the deep spiritual connection between Fang Junbi and her sister Fang Junying 方君瑛, her husband Zeng Zhongming 曾仲鳴, and her teacher and friend Wang Jingwei, we can understand their personalities, values, and modes of behavior, enriching our knowledge of the world of affection, ethics, and souls of modern Chinese female intellectuals, and providing resources for reflecting on the personal growth of women today.

In this study, we investigated the effect of the ultrasound-assisted Maillard reaction on the structural and emulsifying properties of myofibrillar protein (MP) and dextran (DX) conjugates with different molecular weights (40, 70 and 150 kDa). Compared with classical heating, mild and moderate ultrasound-assisted methods (100–200 W) could accelerate the later stage of the Maillard reaction, which increased the degree of graft (DG) and the content of advanced Maillard reaction products (MPRs). Structural analysis revealed conjugates obtained by Maillard reaction induced the loss of ordered secondary structures (α-helix, β-sheets) and red-shift of maximum emission wavelength of intrinsic fluorescence spectrum. The conjugate containing 40 kDa DX exhibited higher extent of Maillard reaction compared to those containing 70 kDa and 150 kDa DX under various treating methods. Moreover, the ultrasound-assisted Maillard reaction could effectively improve the emulsifying behaviors. 100 W ultrasound-induced conjugates grafted by 70 kDa DX produced the smallest emulsion size with optimum storage stability. Confocal laser scanning microscopy and analytical centrifugal analyzer further confirmed MP grafted by 70 kDa DX with the assistance of 100 W ultrasound field could produce the smallest and most homogeneous MP-base emulsion with no flocculation. Our study demonstrated that mild ultrasound treatment resulted in well-controlled Maillard reaction, and the related glycoconjugate grafted with 70 kDa DX showed the greatest improvements in emulsifying ability and stability. These findings provided a theoretical foundation for the development of emulsion-based foods with excellent characteristics.
It has been demonstrated that glutamine metabolism has become the main energy and building blocks supply for the growth and viability of a potentially large subset of malignant tumors. The glutamine ...metabolism often depends upon mitochondrial glutaminase (GLS) activity, which converts glutamine to glutamate and serves as a significant role for bioenergetic processes. Thus, recently, the GLS has become a key target for small molecule therapeutic intervention. Numerous medicinal chemistry studies are currently aimed at the design of novel and potent inhibitors for GLS, however, to date, only one compound (named CB-839) have entered clinical trials for the treatment of advanced solid tumors and hematological malignancies. The perspective summarizes the progress in the discovery and development of GLS inhibitors, including the potential binding site, biochemical techniques for inhibitor identification, and approaches for identifying small-molecule inhibitors, as well as future therapeutic perspectives in glutamine metabolism are also put forward in order to provide reference and rational for the drug discovery of novel and potent glutamine metabolism modulators.
With the rapid development of virtual reality technology, its application in basketball game scenes has become more and more extensive. Taking optics as the main research content, this paper puts ...forward a method of combining optical image enhancement with virtual reality to automatically generate basketball game scenes and training data simulation. Firstly, by enhancing the brightness, contrast and color saturation of the light image, the visibility and realism of the basketball game scene are improved. Then, using virtual reality technology, a virtual basketball game scene is generated, including elements such as the stadium, players and spectators. Finally, by simulating the training data in the virtual scene, the simulation and testing of various situations in the basketball game are realized. The research results show that the combination of light image enhancement and virtual reality has good effect and application value in the automatic generation of basketball game scenes and the simulation of training data. This study provides a new method and technical platform for the simulation and training of basketball game scenes.

The dry and hydrothermal torrefacation of on Camellia Shell (CS) was carried on three different devices- batch autoclave, quartz tube, and auger reactor. The torrefied bio-char products were investigated via TGA, elemental analysis and industrial analysis. Moreover, the pyrolysis and catalytic pyrolysis properties of torrefied bio-char were investigated. The results showed torrefaction significantly influenced the content of hemicellulose in CS. And hydrothermal torrefaction via batch autoclave and dry torrefaction via auger reactors promoted the hemicellulose to strip from the CS. Quartz tube and auger reactor were beneficial for devolatilization and improving heat value of torrefied bio-char. The result showed that the main products were phenols and acids. And hydrothermal torrefaction pretreatment effectively reduced the acids content from 34.5% to 13.2% and enriched the content of phenols (from 27.23% to 60.05%) in bio-oil due to the decreasing of hemicellulos in torrefied bio-char. And the catalyst had slight influence on the bio-oil distribution.

A nano-encapsulation strategy for a chitosan-coated liposomal oral delivery system using milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) phospholipids for the entrapment of antidiabetic peptides prepared from Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) protein hydrolysates (SPH) was developed. The size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, stability during freeze-drying freeze thawing, and long-term storage abilities of the nano-capsules were investigated as a function of concentrations of phospholipid and chitosan coating material. Chitosan coating greatly improved the stability of liposomes. The maximum encapsulation efficiency (71.3%) and physical stability were achieved with 10% MFGM phospholipid and 0.4% chitosan. Chitosan coating significantly prolonged the release of SPH in simulated biological fluids. In conclusion, liposomes with “optimal” chitosan coating-concentration show great promise as a potential new delivery system for protein hydrolysates.
There has been great attention on indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) around cancer immunotherapy because of its role in enabling cancers to evade the immune system. The most recent spurt of high ...potent IDO1 inhibitors has been driven by the solution of the increased crystal structures of inhibitors with IDO1. Though the structural information of the active site of IDO1 obtained from the crystals are quite similar, the structures of reported potent inhibitors are quite different. Besides, while thousands of bioactive small molecule inhibitors of IDO1 exist, to date, only five compounds have entered clinical trials. In an effort to obtain more clinical drugs targeting IDO1, more comprehensive understanding of the active site of IDO1 and the structures of existing potent IDO1 inhibitors are necessary. Thus, this review mainly focus on the key features reported from specific crystal structures of IDO1 and an overview of the most recently developed IDO1 inhibitors under investigation and their other derived applications which may contribute to a better usage in cancer immunotherapy.

Emerging evidence supports the pivotal roles of adipocytes in breast cancer progression. Tumour induced beige/brown adipose tissue differentiation contributes to the hypermetabolic state of the ...breast cancer. However, the mediators and mechanisms remain unclear.
Survival probabilities were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method based on immunohistochemistry results. Biochemical studies were performed to characterize the novel interrelation between breast cancer cells and adipocytes.
We show that tumour-surrounding adipocytes exhibit an altered phenotype in terms of upregulated beige/brown characteristics and increased catabolism associated with an activated state characterized by the release of metabolites, including free fatty acids, pyruvate, lactate and ketone bodies. Likewise, tumour cells cocultivated with mature adipocytes exhibit metabolic adaptation and an aggressive phenotype in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, we show that tumour cells induce beige/brown differentiation and remodel metabolism in resident adipocytes by exosomes from the co-culture system that carry high levels of miRNA-144 and miRNA-126. miRNA-144 promotes beige/brown adipocyte characteristics by downregulating the MAP3K8/ERK1/2/PPARγ axis, and exosomal miRNA-126 remodels metabolism by disrupting IRS/Glut-4 signalling, activating the AMPK/autophagy pathway and stabilizing HIF1α expression in imminent adipocytes. In vivo inhibition of miRNA-144 or miRNA-126 decreases adipocyte-induced tumour growth.
These results demonstrate that by inducing beige/brown differentiation and enhancing catabolism in recipient adipocytes, exosomal miRNA-144 and miRNA-126 from the tumour-adipocyte interaction reprogram systemic energy metabolism to facilitate tumour progression.
