With the rapid development of modern microelectronic devices, high-performance thermal interface polymer materials are of ever-rising importance. However, polymers commonly have very low intrinsic ...thermal conductivities, thence, introducing the thermal conductive nanofillers was considered to be one of the efficiently ways to enhance the thermal conductivity. The construction of effective thermal conductive pathway is essential for the thermal conductivity of polymer-based composites. In this context, toward the common functionalized boron nitride nanosheet (f-BNNS)/polymer composites, we found that the introduction of a very low amount of one-dimensional (1D) copper nanowires (CuNWs) can bring significantly further improvement in thermal conductivity. The in-plane thermal conductivity of f-BNNS-CuNWs/poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composite film with 0.1 wt% of CuNWs can achieved at ~ 6.5 W/(m•K) which is ~1.76 times as high as that of f-BNNS/PVA composite film at the same filling content of f-BNNS. The use of high-aspect-ratio CuNWs is beneficial to the formation of random bridges or networks with conductive f-BNNS and facilitates the phonon transfer leading to high thermal conductivity. SEM images demonstrated that the adjacent 2D f-BNNS plates were in tandem with 1D CuNWs. The obtained results offer a facile and feasible way to design and fabricate the highly thermal-conductive polymer composites as advanced thermal interface polymer composite materials.
Display omitted
•f-BNNS and CuNWs were introduced into the PVA matrix together.•A continuous heat conductive network of CuNWs and f-BNNS was formed.•There are strong interface interactions between f-BNNS and CuNWs.•A low content of CuNWs brings great improvement on thermal conductivity.
In this work, we successfully prepared multifunctional boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofiber membranes. Using sulfanilic acid (SA) as a medium, hexagonal boron nitride ...(h-BN) were exfoliated into SA-functionalized BNNS through dry ball-milling process followed with liquid-phase exfoliation based on Lewis acid-base interaction. The f-BNNS/PVA composite nanofiber membranes with different loading amounts of f-BNNS were prepared through electrospinning. The results demonstrated the electrospun f-BNNS/PVA composite nanofiber membranes show high mechanical properties and thermal conductivities. The yield and ultimate tensile strengths of f-BNNS/PVA composite nanofiber membrane at 5 wt% loading amount can reach ∼8.56 and ∼11.37 MPa. Meantime, the thermal conductivity of f-BNNS/PVA composite nanofiber membrane with 10 wt% loading amounts of f-BNNS is ∼0.7328 W/(m•K), almost 6.47 times higher than that of neat PVA membrane. Besides, the f-BNNS/PVA composite nanofiber membrane can also be used as a filtration membrane for fast malachite green (MG) absorption and separation of MG and rhodamine B dyes.

Recently, polymer-based thermal management materials have been receiving more and more attention. Always, introducing the thermal conductive nanofillers to prepare polymer composites is one of the ...best ways to improve the thermal conductivity (TC) of the polymer. However, the simple and effective way to improve thermal conductivity by increasing fillers loading amount often brings the decrease of mechanical property resulted by agglomeration. Herein, we combined 2D transition metal carbides (Ti3C2Tx), and functionalized boron nitride nanosheets (f-BNNS) together for simultaneously enhancing the TC and mechanical property of polybenzimidazole (PBI)-based composites. As the loading amounts of f-BNNS-Ti3C2Tx reached 25 wt% (f-BNNS: 12.5 wt%, Ti3C2Tx: 12.5 wt%), the in-plane and through-plane TCs of the f-BNNS-Ti3C2Tx/PBI composite film reach ~5.06 and ~3.44 W m−1 K−1 which are ~12.05 and ~8.19 times higher than those of neat PBI film. More notably, the synergistic effect of interspace-filling and bridging between f-BNNS and Ti3C2Tx also prevents the agglomeration and facilitates the improvement of mechanical property, even at a high loading amount of 25 wt%, the yield and ultimate tensile strengths of f-BNNS-Ti3C2Tx/PBI composite film are ~175.5 and ~189.6 MPa with increases of ~61.1% and ~39.8% compared to those of neat PBI.
Display omitted
•f-BNNS and Ti3C2Tx were introduced into a PBI matrix together.•f-BNNS-Ti3C2Tx/PBI exhibits high thermal conductivity and good mechanical property.•There are strong interactions among f-BNNS, Ti3C2Tx, and PBI.•The synergistic effect between f-BNNS and Ti3C2Tx favors the improvement of thermal conductivity and mechanical property.
Thermostability of β-glucosidase was enhanced by family shuffling, site saturation mutagenesis, and site-directed mutagenesis. Family shuffling was carried out based on β-glucosidase BglC from ...Thermobifida fusca and β-glucosidase BglB from Paebibacillus polymxyxa with the help of synthetic primers. High-throughput screening revealed mutants with higher thermostability than both parental enzymes. The most thermostable mutant VM2 containing three key amino acid changes in L444Y/G447S/A433V had a 144-fold increase in half-life of inactivation as compared to the parental enzyme BglC. The mutant VM2 showed 28% and 94% increase in kcat towards p-nitrophenyl-β-d-glucopyranoside (pNPG) and cellobiose, respectively. The mutant with enhanced stability would facilitate the recycle of β-glucosidase in the bioconversion of cellulosic biomass.

Introduction
The venous network of the brainstem is complex and significant. Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is a practical technique which is sensitive to veins, especially tiny veins. Our ...purpose of this study was to evaluate the visualization of the venous network of brainstem by using SWI at 3.0 T.
Methods
The occurrence rate of each superficial veins of brainstem was evaluated by using SWI on a 3 T MR imaging system in 60 volunteers. The diameter of the lateral mesencephalic vein and peduncular vein were measured by SWI using the reconstructed mIP images in the sagittal view. And the outflow of the veins of brainstem were studied and described according to the reconstructed images.
Results
The median anterior pontomesencephalic vein, median anterior medullary vein, peduncular vein, right vein of the pontomesencephalic sulcus, and right lateral anterior pontomesencephalic vein were detected in all the subjects (100 %). The outer diameter of peduncular vein was 1.38 ± 0.26 mm (range 0.8–1.8 mm). The lateral mesencephalic vein was found in 75 % of the subjects and the mean outer diameter was 0.81 ± 0.2 mm (range 0.5–1.2 mm). The inner veins of mesencephalon were found by using SWI.
Conclusion
The venous networks around the brain stem can be visualized by SWI clearly. This result can not only provide data for anatomical study, but also may be available for the surgical planning in the infratentorial region.
