Based on David Lynch's lifelong preoccupation with the prose of Franz Kafka, this article argues that Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) represents an homage to Kafka's novel The Trial (1925). The text ...identifies and analyzes several parallels between these works (their interplay with what Espen Hammer calls the genre of the metaphysical crime narrative and their use of motifs of doors and thresholds) in order to explain how they contribute to the complexity of Lynch and Frost's television series.
Članak analizira Rousseauovu upotrebu pojmova ljubavi prema sebi (sebeljublja), samilosti i samoljublja te njihov odnos prema modernim psihoanalitičkim pojmovima. Ljubav prema sebi dovodi se u vezu s ...Freudovim pojmom samoočuvanja; samoljublje je povezano s narcističkom veličajnošću i bahatošću, dok samilost ukazuje na sličnost s modernim konceptom empatije. Rousseauovo razlikovanje između navedena tri pojma u skladu je s temeljnom rasprom u psihoanalitičkoj teoriji: onoj između nagonskih i objektnih (relacionalnih) teorija. Rousseauova misao može se, predpsihoanalitički, protumačiti u smislu obuhvaćanja obiju strana: njegovo naglašavanje ljubavi prema sebi blisko je nagonskom individualizmu, dok bi samilost bila oblik objektnog odnosa. U konačnici, Rousseauov pojam ljubav prema sebi preklapa se s Kohutovim pojmom zdravog narcizma koji je središnji za razvoj ličnosti, budući da je odsutnost zdravog narcizma podjednako problematična kao i bilo koji patološki oblik narcizma (veličajni ili idealizirajući narcizam).
Attitude estimation methods provide modern consumer, industrial, and space systems with an estimate of a body orientation based on noisy sensor measurements. The gradient descent algorithm is one of ...the most recent methods for optimal attitude estimation, whose iterative nature demands adequate adjustment of the algorithm parameters, which is often overlooked in the literature. Here, we present the effects of the step size, the maximum number of iterations, and the initial quaternion, as well as different propagation methods on the quality of the estimation in noiseless and noisy conditions. A novel figure of merit and termination criterion that defines the algorithm's accuracy is proposed. Furthermore, the guidelines for selecting the optimal set of parameters in order to achieve the highest accuracy of the estimate using the fewest iterations are proposed and verified in simulations and experimentally based on the measurements acquired from an in-house developed model of a satellite attitude determination and control system. The proposed attitude estimation method based on the gradient descent algorithm and complementary filter automatically adjusts the number of iterations with the average below 0.5, reducing the demand on the processing power and energy consumption and causing it to be suitable for low-power applications.

Eyelid sebaceous gland carcinoma is ...a relatively rare tumor and a disease primarily of older patients. It occurs more commonly in oriental populations and with a predilection for the upper eyelid. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment may help improve disease control and patient survival.
Yeasts have an important role in the biotechnological production of ethanol, as well as in the production of fermented food and beverages. Mycotoxins, secondary metabolites of molds, can contaminate ...a large number of foods due to their ubiquity and therefore present great risk to human health. Other than their toxicological effects on humans, mycotoxins can have negative effects on various properties of yeasts and consequently limit their use in industry. Therefore, the aim of this work was to determine the effects of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), ochratoxin A (OTA) and zearalenone (ZEA) on metabolic activity and biomass growth of selected yeasts S. cerevisiae, S. uvarum, C. utilis and K. marxianus. The presence of fermentation products was determined with high-performance liquid chromatography after 24h of incubation. In the early stage, all mycotoxin-exposed yeasts had lower metabolic activity as well as biomass growth when compared to control. However, concentrations of metabolic products and biomass reached the control levels by the end of the process, with the exception of C. utilis exposed to zearalenone (ZEA). Adaptive response to exposed mycotoxins suggests that certain yeasts could be used to control mycotoxin concentrations in the production of fermented food and beverages.
